Riding the WIDOW MAKER at COUGAR PARK Tokoroa.
Спорт
I drop in to Cougar mountain bike track in Tokoroa. I haven't got long so decide to check out the widow maker track. This has a drop in it that I am keen to check out.
I am on my Specialized turbo levo.

I had the very same trouble with Trailforks on phones. Gave up and just simply follow my nose, now it's always an adventure 😅
I think you found a gem there with that park! You'll have to bring the army back next time when you go exploring 🤙🏻

Sounds like a good idea. We had a big group ride today and were discussing all the places we want to go.
Hey Lance, I ride at cougar all the time, and can confirm that not many people were riding it (widow maker feature) at the time, but at the last working bee they did a bit of work on it to tidy it up and now very rideable! Hit us up next time your coming over and we can guide you round! 👍😁

That sounds good. Definitely keen to check out more of the park.
Rode the park last week, Yeah its a confusing park to get around. even the markings on the provided maps don't really make it easy on your first time around. But i did enjoy the tracks a lot. I will defiantly ride there again next time i pass through town. also the fact that its basically just off the main road makes it a great park to visit.
I love your attitude towards not giving up and always accomplishing a trail, keep it up!!! :D

The funny thing with bike parks that don't have a central chairlift is they are often confusing at first. After your first visit it seems so straight forward.
When I first saw the drop not long after it was made it was much nicer, but I decided not to do it then. Then Maybe a year ago I decided I should do it but it looked washed out like in your vid and I decided stuff that.lol Tok has some very good tracks.

I must admit it looks scetchy to me. Ashame as a cool looking feature.
There is a bunch of new trails out the back including a big grade 5 jump line plus more grade 3 and 4 trails. The park it's self is quite large with good trails, but it's poorly mapped. Locals are friendly and will show you where to go.

Will definitely be back for more. I was there on a Monday morning so very quiet.
You need a Garmin Edge so you can mount it on the bike and preload your routes - problem of getting lost (every time 🤣) solved!

Hi Lance I watched your test of the Moterra 1 a few months ago and am now considering buying one. Could you tell me how you found the sizing,I’m 6ft and usually buy a large size,I’ve a 2018 levo at the moment. I’ve been told the Moterra is sized a wee bit on the small side, any advice would be appreciated

I am just over 5foot 10. I have a levo size large. The reach is 455. The reason I felt good on the cannondale was it felt to me incredibly similar to the levo. Both have 66 degree head angles. I thought the reach was the same but just checked a web site called geometrygeeks.bike and it has the 2020 moterra at 470 reach so slightly longer than your bike. Hope that helps.

Nice! Don’t blame you on the Shute, looked like a pedal catcher to me. Phoning the patient wife to come rescue you not a good idea.......If I’m out alone I WhatsApp “I’m still alive” every hour and she seems happy ...ish.....

I bet that chute was a lot gnarlier in real life without the GoPro effect.

What Rain?
Native mammal ha ha trail name suggestion :p
Yeah.. I find Trailforks trails are commonly out of date (in NZ??) and the GPS position update takes quite a few seconds. Can anybody recommend another mtb navigation app? Thank Lance.

I use trail forks a lot but do get frustrated when the location thing doesn't work properly. Saying that I was in Riverhead today and met two groups of people lost. I helped them with directions using trail forks.

We didn't have much time as we were returning from Taupo to Auckland.
Why doesn't the wife ride?
@bestdayevermtb2
3 жыл бұрын
She does sometimes but didn't have a bike with her. My wife is actually the athlete in the family even representing NZ in triathlon. We were in Taupo because she was doing a 10km swim in lake Taupo. We stopped briefly so I could get a quick ride on the way home.
