You're short shifting this b/c the shift indicator was flashing at you - they come set from the factory for a break-in, just reset to redline 6800RPM. The factory set rev limiter is well above that. You'll miss understanding the personality of these bikes if you don't flog them in a canyon.

Hi thanks for the great videos really enjoy watching them. Two/three quick questions (sorry if already asked and answered) Getting it very very hard to decide between either of these two, the Guzzi for me with shaft drive and huge tank are a win. Engine: which of the two has most character/soul? Clutch: which feels better? and which of the two bikes makes you feel that you can enjoy the views without wanting to push you on? Little bit like a beer buddy :)

Most character, Guzzi (also the most odd, seldom seen bike on the road). Clutch? No noticeable difference. The Guzzi has a dry clutch like your car but it doesn't feel any different than any other bike I've owned (61 total). Even the hydraulic assist clutch on the Kawasaki W800 feels no difference. But the point goes to Guzzi clutch because you can run any kind of oil in it and not have to use motorcycle oil (to reduce additives that cause the wet clutch to slip). You can use plain old car oil of any brand in the Guzzi. Shaft drive, little maintenance wins over a chain (but of course you have the occasional fluid change). 250 mile tank is a win on the Guzzi and then you still have about 70-100 miles left in the tank. And of course the view from the bike is no different than any other bike. The downside of the Triumph is they are no longer a British bike (built in Thailand now) and I followed the forums for awhile before deciding on the Guzzi. Lots of failures in the new ones... and they are not air-cooled anymore so they are no longer traditional. But I hear Guzzi is going water cooled also. I like all of my simple air-cooled bikes the best. Water cooling adds one more maintenance point and possible failure. The bad news is, Guzzi has no noticeable warranty. My black header pipes started flaking off the paint/powder coat right after I got it last summer. I contacted the dealer, who contacted Guzzi, who said that was unusual and they would replace them. So far the dealer has not been able to get them to even communicate any more on the problem and I'll probably never see them. So in my opinion, Guzzi has no warranty.

You are right about the busy roads around there. Moved from Bath to South Wales a few years back. I do now need to swap to a lighter, more nimble bike for all the steep single-track roads around where I live. Something interesting but not off-road orientated, Fantic Caballero Flat Track maybe? Loving the lack of traffic and awesome views.

Yeah, that's what I think. I prefer the stone to the classic but I really don't like the 'Eagle' design they've built into the clock and light. Before I replaced the exhaust, I'd have to change the front light!

When will Guzzi bring back the V11, with the current retro cafe and roadster styling they would surely do well, I would have gone for.

Hi, if of help... Unsure what helmet is in this video, but I'm currently riding a 2018 V7iii and changed my helmet for an AGV K6, which compares favourably with my old Griffin I had back in the 80s. Very light and comfortable

4:17 aahhh!! tell us about the Guzzi, not the other bike!

Went to a Moto guzzi dealership and had a look at the new v7 stone 850. Looking to buy as I now have hip problems. Loved the looks and easy to get on and off. But here is the big but. The three position light switch broke when I tried it to see how it felt. Literally something inside snapped I didn't abuse it just went to operate it. Told the dealership what happened. He said don't be put off buying one. I said Italian bikes a notorious for crap electrics and that has just proved a point. I asked who makes the electrics he said bosch makes all the engine electrics. But didn't know who made the switch gear. I wasn't impressed considering its a brand new bike. And something so simple as a switch to fail isn't good in my opinion. PS loved the video. And I used to have a street twin when they first came out. But that wasn't with out its problems either.

Maybe the bike was dropped before or something; I also tested the V7 in busy traffic,cobbled streets, highway etc for about 2 hours, nothing fell off, nothing felt cluncky; there was a second test bike with some damage kinda similar with what you're describing, and it had been dropped by a clumsy customer; now I'm not saying it definitely happened in your case but it might be a possibility; I am also considering a V7 850, it felt pretty special compared to the honda kawasaki and yamaha I had until now; cheers!

Thanks for your reply It doesn't put me off buying one just very disappointed as the rest of the bike is simply gorgeous and so comfortable I could always fit the after market switch gear Like moto gadget that the custom builders use which is metal And give the look of simplicity style and quality instead of cheap plastic ones.

Italian stuff is not crappy, many times it’s just they are not made to be destroyed by some guy without kind hands. My point is: Just because something is indestructible it doesn’t mean you can push it as a maniac, things like this has to be treated with kindness, then they will last for centuries ( there are plenty of moto guzzi falcone, norge and many other still traveling around and they still look brand new )

Paul, I've had mine for over three months now, not long I know but I've had no issues with any of the switch gear at all, in fact I'd say it's pretty decent to be fair, I've only heard of one other case of a switch failing so far. It's a lovely bike to ride, as for electrics, my last guzzi my 1200 sport covered galactic mileage, went all over Europe and I only had two wiring issues in all of the ownership, easily fixed though, the connections on this one are much better quality than on my sport.

@@Paul-pb3vq The only problems I've had with my 2021 V7 Stone Centenario is the black on the header pipes is coming off and Guzzi said they'll replace them. that was last year. The dealer can't get them to respond anymore than original promise. And my transmission has a whine so loud it's hearing damaging. But after seeing how the warranty goes on the pipes, I have no hopes of getting the transmission replaced (a friend has had two Guzzi's over the years that needed replacement transmissions). Overall, I'm impressed with the build quality but I'm impressed with bike in general. Everything else seems to work fine now with 3000 miles on it in the last 9 months (I have to divide my time between 6 motorcycles but I've put on over 10,000 miles in the last 9 months). It has a very comfortable saddle, but the suspension is not as good as my new Kawasaki W800. And the chrome on the 800 I don't have to worry about coming off like the black paint on the Guzzi.

I went all in on Adsense on my main Motobob channel. Do more of the vids that earn well, learn to retain the audience through a mid-roll or two. The channel really grew because I was focusing on that, and once your channel gets big you start to get sponsored videos etc. But I would say my income is still 75% adsense. I need to grow the sponsorship side to reduce the risk of reliance on adsense a little...

I have a Kawasaki 2021 W800 which I love, but have fallen in love with the Moto Guzzi now and really want one (but just can't justify having two similar bikes and I hate to spend the money...the W800 was a lot cheaper). It was nice to see Bath, England. My relatives came from there and then started the town of Bath, Ohio in the US, then spread out into Wisconsin, where I'm from.

Recently bought a 2016 V7ii. Love it. Years ago I rode my '71 Bonneville on a camping trip. I remember spending a day in Bath, Maine US. Bath is on the Kennebec River / Atlantic coast and is known for building ocean sailing vessels in the mid 1700's. Ships are still being built there today.

@@savage22bolt32 I didn't know there was a Bath, Maine also. I did buy buy a new 2021 V7 Stone Centenario. That 850cc engine has awesome power. And I kept the 2021 W800 and my 2021 XT250 Yamaha, and my 2018 Vespa GTS300 Touring, and my 2020 Honda CT70 Chinese clone with 125cc engine. I'm motorcycle poor. I only have two complaints on the 100th anniversary Guzzi. The paint is chipping off the headers and Guzzi said last year they were going to replace them, but they never send the headers to the dealer and won't even answer his emails (has to be the very worst manufacturer for warranty work) and the transmission has a terrible whine, very loud that is driving me crazy. I think I'll eventually get rid of it for those two reasons. Oh, one more thing. I didn't know they burned premium fuel before I bought it and now that gas prices have doubled, I think twice before riding that bike, preferring to ride my other bikes that are cheaper to refuel.

@@spydie It's good to keep your old bikes if you can. Back in the 60's & 70's I had many dirt bikes (Suzuki, Yamaha, OSSA, Bultaco, Husqvarna) and really wish I could ride each one again. Even if only for a day a year. My subconscious hears the gear whine, but it's kind of relaxing. The black pipes worried me. I could picture future scratches & scrapes. I was happy that the 2016 Stone which I bought has chromed pipes. After working in aerospace for 45 years, I'm really fond of titanium and stainless steel. Perhaps an aftermarket exhaust system is available. Generally, I don't like to modify my vehicles. I've learned that whenever I change something, it affects something else, which compounds the effort required. I have enough to do just with normal maintenance etc.

@@savage22bolt32 I agree with you 100% on everything you said. I've had bikes before with black pipes (dirt bikes) and never had a problem with the powder coat or paint (whatever it is) flaking off. I like the Guzzi "Special" because of all the chrome (but my W800 satisfies my yearning for Chrome including all metal chrome fenders) but I wanted the lighted "Wing" in the middle of the headlight and the all the features of the digital gauge (time, temp, and gear indicator all showing constantly). Right now Kissan Technologies, who make all my headlight modulators, are trying to get the lighted "Wing" to do the modulating, but because the headlight is controlled by the CAN-bus (like on BMW) so far the best we've gotten is the high beam and low beam both modulate and not in a steady low-high as is required by law, but in a very random flashing sequence. They've reached out to Guzzi and to the headlight manufacturer to try to figure it out but just like my headers replacement, are getting no response from anyone. My gear whine isn't relaxing, it's loud enough to cause hearing damage. I've heard of Guzzi's needed bad transmissions replaced under warranty (one guy that puts out the MGNOC newsletter has had it done to two different bikes over the years). I'm pretty sure the header pipes are stainless steel under the powder coat, but I don't know of a way to totally remove all the powder coat short of paying someone with a sandblaster, which I shouldn't have to do since they are covered under their non-existing warranty. I did acquire a 1969 Honda 305 Super Hawk in 1992 but after riding it off and on for a year I got rid of it. I wanted the nostalgia of my old bikes, but the ride and handling of the 305 was light years behind what I was currently used to. We forget how bad the old bikes really were and we long for the memories and nostalgia of riding them again, but trust me, you really don't want to own any of your old bikes.

@@spydie I think you're right about the old vehicles. My 1964 Chevy truck with a three-on-the-tree probably wouldn't be much fun, especially in today's traffic. Same for a '69 Super Hawk. I hope your transmission has proper oil in it. My V7 is not that loud. Seems like you know electronics. I was in metal machining. Electronics baffle me.

If the Triumphs were still manufactures in the UK it would entice more people to purchase them. But these days they are manufactured in SE Asia and to me that's a turn off. The Moto Guzzi is entirely manufactured in Italy, to me that's a reason to go Guzzi.

Pretty much, I agree. While I love the new BSA Gold Star, and would have bought one if it was made in England, I ended up with M-G V7. I doubt there is any lack of quality in the BSA, but I like the intangible asset of knowing my Guzzi was built in "La Citta della Moto Guzzi", Mandello Del Lario, Italy.

It's Transverse compared to usual V-twins like the Harley, Indian, etc, and when you compare it to modern cars with front wheel drive. Remember when you used to have inline engines before front-wheel drive? Then all the front wheel drive engines were transverse. The Guzzi is not transverse compared to the the original cars because our V8s were in the same configuration as the Guzzi. Harleys are truly transverse (they match the front wheel drive engine). How or why we got to calling Guzzi transverse I don't know, except it's opposite the Harley twins, maybe that's why. The inline (side-by-side) twins, three and four cylinder bikes are transverse just like the front wheel drive cars.
