    Love your episode about the Lipizzaner horses. As a child in the 50's I was in awe of how General Patton and others helped preserve this magnificent breed in Europe during WW 2. I only rode for a few years but the Lipizzaners always fascinated me. I saw one of the first touring groups from the Spanish riding school when they came to America in 1964. Will never forget that performance. The "airs above the ground" was the most awe inspiring thing I have ever seen. The horses were so powerful and in peak physical condition. They performed with and without riders. I will never forget that evening. I saw them again about 30 years later. So glad you were able to see and ride them in Europe. All of your episodes are wonderful but this one was very special for me.

    That was a good movie. In reality it was Bud Brickman who did the saving. During World War II, General George Patton received a desperate plea to help rescue the world famous Lipizzan horses from the advancing Russian army. He turned to a Montana boy,Bud Brickman,who had grown up on a horse ranch outside of Red Lodge, MT to get the some 200 mares to safety.

    I went there for my 21st b'day pressie. A whole week with these beautiful horses! They seem to speak more English now. I was there in 1990 so it was still Yugoslavia then and most visitors they had were German. It broke my heart when the stud was bombed during the Bosnian war as it was considered military.

    A wonderful experience, Alyssa! I visited Piber some years ago, the austrian stud for breeding Lippizaner and we could see the young horses roaming free on the 'Almen', the mountain pastures. They are hardy, weatherproof and surefooted because the environment forms them. And yet they are elegant and refined, a real cultural heritage of Europe. I am happy you could visit! First Marbach, now Lipica, your channel is obviously well known in the horse world and the doorsof the old state studs are open for you.

    I think you would have a very similar experience in Czechia.The breed is named Old Kladruber or simply Kladruber. They're bred in two colours - white/grey in national stud farm in Kladruby and Labem and black in national stud farm in Slatinany. They have closed stud book. Majestic horses and national pride. Similar disposition, but they have roman noses. They're good for dressage and pulling carriages mostly, but they can do anything. Danish royal family is using them to draw the royal coaches and for royal mounted guard. And I would love to see them on your list. Because I'm really proud of them. Also, because other Czech breeds seem kind of uninteresting, like our warmblood that everyone here have and it feels like almost any warmblood combination would be eligible to be papered as Czech warmblood. But Kladruber? That's a majestic breed with very interesting history!

    This was absolutely magical! Do the stallions get pasture time too? One of my favourite breeds as well. I have never been to Lipica unfortunately, but to Vienna several times. When I was a teen, I was fortunate enough to be riding and caring for an old Lipican mare named Rebecca. She was very fit, even in her late twenties, and she was fierce (in the best way possible). Always willing to go forward and quiet a handful for me as a young rider. 😅 She taught me a lot. She had a hard time in her life before she came to our friends barn, overweight from people throwing all kinds of food waste over her fence. And she was standing there all alone. 😞 I was so happy for her when she found this wonderful forever home in her older days. She lived up to her thirties. Thank you Rebecca for letting me be a part of your long journey. ❤

But i think the lipizzaner is'nt grey because they look whitr😊

We have many wonderful horses that differ in personality,seat,and movement as well. Not leaset their stories. Morgan Horses were created by a man named Justin Morgan for pulling great huge trees and other things.The Appaloosa was bred by the Nez Perce Indians. They are strong and opinionated while being kind and cooperative. The Tennesee Walker a lso has a strong personality,with the ability to give you an incredible ride.Plus being well able to pull a silkie. The most priceless of American horses is the Mustang. Sturdy and incredibly smart. You never know who you will wind up with when you breed these wonderful animals. They are icons of America and it's past. Wild,free of spirit and they know who they are. There are several more American horses that she should check out. If she wants to ride every horse breed. Not just European breeds. :}
