The parallel-twin sportbike segment continues to heat up with the introduction of Suzuki’s 2024 GSX-8R ($9,439).     Great Clip on this machine!! At 64 years young I Bought the 1st 1 on the ground in Colorado 2 weeks ago, This BIKE FITS ALL SKILL SETS !!! This is like getting 3 bikes in 1,!! ,Again Killer job with the video !!!

    I think this is a great attempt by Suzuki to keep people interested with sport bikes. It has the looks of a 600 super sport, but the daily livability to be more fun and economical on the street while still offering a high level of sport when you want to ride that way. It’s the kind of bike that compliments the dual sport, adventure, and adventure touring bike I have. This bike checks the boxes for looks, sharp street handling, and ability to do great times on a track. It only offends hard core riders that are not willing to get unfolded off their track purpose super sports of old. And there is nothing wrong with that. But given how few riders there are for the 4Cyl super sports of the past, can’t expect a company to keep making a product people are not buying and is not profitable. Appreciate that they are turning their eyes to something sportier at all.

    @@redsview A powersports dealer near me has the 8R for $8500 and has an 8S for $7000 Im going to get the 8R and it will probably be the grey and red.

    Genius package. With the whole line up refreshed and doing well, I believe they are about to slap that screen and tech into newer versions of the 600/750/1000. Im thinking since they dropped out of MotoGP to save money for development we are going to see the best superbikes from them yet. Saving the best for last. This GSX8R is a near perfect street bike for daily riding with a sweet powerband.

    For a sport bike, that looks like a very comfortable upright, seating position whereas you don’t have to do 80 miles an hour all the time to be comfortable

    I was actually surprised he mentioned the seat is comfortable for a long ride. At a recent motorcycle show I mounted the bike and I found the seat is VERY hard and uncomfortable. Big difference from it's competition like new Triumph Daytona or Ninja 650. The seat, in my opinion, is designed for short spirited twisty rides. Until aftermarket offers softer version, I wouldn't even consider it as a daily rider which Suzuki positions 8R as.

    Nice review. I really like it, but you have to know what it is & what it's not. I used to have a GSXR600 & then a 750 & I'm done with sports bikes now so this really appeals to me. I'm not planning on doing any track days, don't need crazy performance but I do need good comfort & something that doesn't cost too much. It looks like a great all-rounder.

    Suzuki is very deliberate in what they do. Everyone wanted them to hurry up and come up with new, but when they finally did they did so in the right way: a 270 degree firing p twin that is then used in multiple models. All the models are getting good reviews. Better to be this way and have a platform you can build around for a while, instead of rapid changes that miss the mark. But unfortunately I don't have a good reason to trade my SV650 in - yet - or the funds to do so.... What I'd like to see them do is take the European VStrom 250 and make it a 400 and then sell it here to compete against the 450 Himalayan and CFMoto MT, etc. and leapfrog the Versys 300 X, but I doubt they will do it.... although if they paired it with the long overdue update to the DRZ400, I think it be another winning platform. (I would be more motivated to find $ for that as a 2nd bike) Time will tell.

    Great bike. Test rode it. Loved it. Watched all the reviews on it. Almost bought it then I saw the service intervals on it. Doesn't work for the amount I ride. Oil changes at 3750 miles is a bit much for how many miles I put on a bike. Def increases the cost of ownership. Great bike otherwise. Wish more reviewers mentioned this in their reviews.

    Interesting service interval. I think the mfgs are doing that in purpose these days to get more money out of folks who don't work on their bikes. Sounds a wee bit overaggressive.

    Test rode one at Bikeweek yesterday. Very nice bike, motor surprised me a lot for such a low hp rating. Only dislike was the quick shifter sucked up and down. The GSX-S1000 had a much smoother one.

    I did too. We didn't have a route to open it up. It was working fine on the blue one I took. I give Suzuki Team a 5 out of 10 for test ride experience. They need to follow the benchmark Harley Davidson sets on solo test rides.

    Talking while track day... Awesome review.. Adam is the man.. so what is the top speed on this bike 130 ? I live in Texas Like to get a top case for this Bike and do a New orleans weekend. Hit the Ozarks IN arkansas on vaca... ya finally a bike you can tour on that isn't 20k and 600lbs..

    Got a chance to test ride one at Daytona last week. Beautifully set up bike. I'm thinking about buying this over the GSXR750. Waiting to see if Suzuki will come out with an awesome anniversary edition update with updated LEDs and fairing next year. It will be either that or this. Ergonomics, handlebars, chassis provides solid feel and stability, twin engine is a hoot, the power shifter works like a dream. In a class of it's own.

    Hi, is the riding position comfortable, especially for longer journeys or touring even? I was looking at the naked 8S but then saw this one with fairing and thought it might be more comfortable, but that would depend on the riding position. Thanks 🏍👍

    Golden giving the whole review while doing hot laps! I just bought a bumble bee colored one and my new S23s are on their way as I finish my break-in. Just one question for you Adam. Other reviewers complained about the lack of cornering clearance to the foot pegs but you didn't seem to be having a problem with that at all, were the bikes you were riding on the track equipped with the standard foot pegs or rearsets?

    Test ride it. I thought so too. Rode one last week at Daytona and it's a sweet, fun, and confidence building bike. Great handling and ergonomics. I didn't think I'd like it. Better than you think.

    Easy to bang on the keyboard. Not easy to ride one and be objective about it. They want Suzuki to produce inline-4 engines so they can rag on Suzuki about how soulless another "boring inline-4 is". Suzuki can't win. They want Suzuki to produce another V-twin engine so they can complain about how roasted their butt and thighs are from the rear cylinder heat. They want Suzuki to produce another parallel twin so they can complain about how Suzuki just does whatever everyone else is doing. They want Suzuki to add more electronics so they can complain about how expensive Suzuki's bikes are. They want Suzuki to keep controls simple, so they can complain about what a lack of electronics and gizmos Suzuki has on this bike. Suzuki cannot win. I think the problem isn't Suzuki at all. I think the problem is the jaded, cynical, marketing-drunk, mostly non-riding community is, who would rather spend money to buy skill and experience, than to improve themselves on whatever motorcycle they already have.

    Would this bike be good for touring? The new vstrom 800 re is only a few hundred dollars more than this bike, wouldn't it be a better touring bike?

    Not straight out of the box. Riding comfort is good for day rides. Screen too short to protect you from fatigue. Can be easily upgraded. Unfortunately, the rear is cut really short and does not provide enough room to mount luggage efficiently. You could always throw a canvas bag and bungee strap it. The package and infrastructure don't really support that. You could get away for a weekend easily with a back pack and tank bag. The tank is metal and not a cheap piece of plastic. I test rode it at Daytona last week. Awesome bike

    If you're looking for a torque monster, leaving the gear in 3rd and cruise twisties on pure power, then yes, if you love to rev high and squeeze top end power, then keep your 659

    I'm still struggling to understand why one would pick this over a 600 supersport - I had the same question when the R7 came out. Both the R7, GSX-8R have less power than their 600cc sibling like R6, GSX-R 600, while weighing upwards 30+ lbs heavier in terms of wet weight. The GSX-R 600 is around 425 lbs wet while the GSX-8R is a whopping 452 lbs wet...

    That’s a good question. My guess, and only a guess, is that it’s designed for general public. The 600 is designed for people they want to go fast, like… FAST. His comment was this was the “Every man’s (and woman’s) bike) and they doing know hire to necessarily ride like you, again, I’m guessing on your ability but given the question I’m figuring you know how to ride. Someone like me could have the pleasure of riding a bad ass Wick bike, without the temperance of a feisty 600. Thoughts?

    600cc bikes are in essence track bikes with fairings. 0 bottom end torque and the power is at the top of the rev range, and torture rack riding positions. R7 and GSX8R and designed for the road and can do 90 percent of what a 600 can do

    Because these are designed for general public use, and such have more low down torque, more comfortable ergonomics, and is overall cheaper than the supersport counterparts. We see this with the Ninja 650 compared to the 636 as well, one is designed to eat track miles and go fast. The other is better for day to day use. The issue with the r7 specifically is it has the low down torque and is cheaper, but it keeps the supersport ergonomics. I'm not sure why

    looks good, and Iam sure a great bike, but parallel twins are the most soulless motors. I dont get this trend from the big four, just a recycled engine, in a nice chassis., sure its about money

    As an 890R owner, I disagree. Soulless is a 600 cc 4 cylinder with inadequate street able torque. Unless you only require sound for a soul.

    Not a fan of any gsxr after the k5 although my Busa is the definite favourite out of my three bikes. The k5 1000 is astounding in the twisties compared to the Busa though

    The plate holders are the first thing to go. Along with stock mirrors. The rear looks ok for a $9K new bike.

    Yes, this bike doesn't deserve an 8 in it's name. Maybe a 5. Subpar brakes, suspension and engine. This bike is only riding on the Suzuki legacy

    Agree. But sadly all the bikes you mention will soon disappear. Here in Australia the only GSXR you can buy new is the 000 and it’s anyone’s guess as to how long that will last. I hate to say it but I think Suzuki views the 8r as the new definition of their r series sports/performance bikes. The 8r is a sheep in wolfs clothing and for that reason alone will do very well.

    I agree with you guys, pretty soon the in-line for BIKES will be a thing of the past. I don’t understand why they are coming in this direction. I will keep my 750 forever, still riding it at 61 years old, what an amazing bike!

    I'm not sure Adam said it was. He said it wasn't a track focused competition bike like the GSXR's & was a more road focused sporty all-rounder. Adjacent means next to as in separate from, not with but I can see the confusion.

    The seat is comfortable. The twin makes torque. Ergonomics aren't aggressive. Windscreen gets the job done. Mirrors provide a really good view. It's so much fun. Built in Japan. Engine is smooth. Chassis is composed. Street oriented sport bike. Has power modes. COMON WAHEED. I could discern this by going on Suzuki's website and reading.

    Could you rank the GSX-8R above the Yamaha FZ-6R in terms of overall performance? How does it match up against the Ducati supersport?

    This Suzuki has almost 10 hp and 11 ft lb more power and about 15 lbs lighter. Power to weight and the electronics are more up to date(ie Quickshifter standard)

    You totally missed the point of what this bike is about. This is like the Aprilia RS660 or Ducati Supersport. Not intended to replace or compete with GSXR. Or any thoroughbred superbike. This is a sporty daily rider that has plenty of go, but won't kill you or your license.

    @@harranLab If I had $5 for every time I've read people "destroying new X model" that's come out on the market with some unrelated motorcycle that they like... The GSX-S750 wasn't that great of a seller because it was stuck between the 650 class and the 900/1000cc class. The GSX-S1000 WOULD DESTROY the 750. See how stupid this is?
