"Mount Tamalpais is the highest peak in the Marin Hills, which are part of the Northern California Coast Ranges. The elevation at the West Peak, where a radar dome currently stands, is between 2,560 feet (780 m) and 2,578 feet (786 m). The mountain is clearly visible from the city of San Francisco and the East Bay region."

In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew joins Craig, Founder of The Gravel Ride Podcast for a fun, scenic, and challenging ride starting and ending in Mill Valley, California. The ride topped out close to the summit of the East Peak on Mount Tam, with some of the descending segments providing a solid test of Rockshox's Rudy suspension fork for gravel bikes, and on the steeper descents, the Rockshox Reverb AXS XPLR Dropper Seatpost (well used by Craig in the cover photo).

From Fairfax. Love seeing some good Mt Tam riding. This is why everytime I say I ride "gravel" I need to explain that it is really just mountain biking while being under biked.

Breathtaking and inspiring scenary, very pleasing to watch, those Canyon Grizl's seem super capable even though I would prefer a Rigid Carbon fork. Thanks for the upload!
Really enjoyed this one, We were riding those trails about seven years ago at this time of the year, we were on sabbatical from the UK. I hope we can get back at some time in the future.
Such a great place to ride. Did one of my top road rides ever there. Up from Fairfax to the top (we took a left through the redwoods) to the top where there was snow. Bombed down the North side trying not to skid out on the many curves until Stimson Beach, then past it and up back to Fairfax. Great riding on and off road at Tam. And the views, just stunning.

Cool to see Craig pop up again on KZread. I reproduced the ride he lead with Gravel Bike California and it was maybe the most fun I'd had on a bike.

I plan to return and hopefully ride with Craig at Mt. Tam, in the future. Sounds like I just scraped the surface, and the views, off the chart!

I'm usually not a big fan of suspension gravel bikes, but the grizl suspension looked to be made for that amazing ride.

The suspension and dropper really made a difference on some of the steep and dodgy descents that would be tackled on a mountain bike by most riders. Getting a little lower boosted my confidence as well.

As a fellow Grizl owner, I really enjoyed watching this video. I'm wondering if you could share the specs for the 38 1by crankset with 50 cassettes gear?
I ride all those trails on a carbon fiber FS bike: big downhill fun on Old RR Grade and the like, but can't make distance on the uphill like those hardtails/gravels passing us at a 2x clip (humiliating)! Question to @GravelCyclist: Does the Canyon/Rudy layup perform downhill on rocky descents - safely, with confidence and control - as well as my fs MTB? (Seeking an excuse to buy this bike!)

Awesome video! I am considering getting a Grizl myself. Curious if you could tell me Craig's height? Hearing that the medium is too large for him, curious on his height. Thanks.
If it's not too personal, what are Craig's height and inseam ? I understand those alone do not dictate fitment formula, but just want to get an idea.
Not sure I'll ever put front shocks on my Grizl, but that looks like a fun ride.

Understand, not for every area, but the shock was spot on for the gravelly descents of Mount Tamalpais.

@@GravelCyclist Agreed. Seems the shocks help you carry speed over the rough stuff. I bought the Gravl with the leaf spring seat post. I just wanted something comfortable for fitness. I'm only 4 months in for drop bar riding. I had to learn how to clip in and ride in the hallway of my house. My other bike is a 29" BMX cruiser. It's a ton of fun in urban areas and beaches. The geometry transition from that bike the Grizl was tough.

Jom, hows the geometry of the grizzl vs parlee chebacco? Are they upright as chebacco or racy geometry?
How tall are you and Craig to compare correct selecting the best size. Canyon put me at a Medium and I’ 5ft 11 inches.
When are you going to add CA to your route library? I really want the RideWGPS for this route! Been looking for a good Tam gravel route.

Out of curiosity, were you on the 700c Cintuaros or the 650b? I have a wheelset with the 700x40 cinturatos and I want to make sure I don't need my beefier 650b wheelset for this.

I rode the IRC Boken at Mount Tamalpais (700c x 40mm). When I rode the Cinturato's for a spell recently, including the 2021 Big Sugar Gravel, 700c x 40mm.

I had about 30psi on the rear, 26ish on the front.
What package did you order with the Canyon Grizl to get the complete XPLR package with the Rudy fork and dropper post, I do not see anything like it on their website?

What!! No gravel king ss or sk say it isn't so boo whoo lol. You said that the hill you were on was the steepest of the grade. What grade would you give it? A B C D( meaning Damn for hard) lol

Good opportunity to review these tyres, still love the GK SK :) At least one ramp was 19%, some were to 10 to 12%. C and D grades in places, whee!
