In this video we take a ride behind NSW Railways steam locomotive 3265 during the Thirlmere Festival of Steam on a trip from Thirlmere to Buxton along a section of the former Picton - Mittagong Loop Line used by the NSW Rail Museum.
During the Festival of Steam 3265 operated push-pull steam shuttles between Thirlmere and Buxton with locomotive 3001. After the trip to Buxton I also included some bonus footage of both locomotives double-heading the night train from Picton to Thirlmere as their fires light up the night sky.
3265 is one of 191 C32 Class steam locomotives that entered service on the New South Wales railways between 1892 - 1911, and were primarily used on passenger or mail trains. The class had a successful service life with the last not being withdrawn until December 1971. 3246 had the honours of operating the last ever steam-hauled passenger train in New South Wales on the 24th July 1971 on a train from Newcastle to Skipton.
3265 entered service in 1902 and was withdrawn from service in 1968. Restoration of the locomotive began in 1998 and was relaunched into service on the 20th September 2009. Today the locomotive can primarily be seen operating trips for the NSW Rail Museum.
