Riding a Spanish regional train from Seville to Cádiz from the majestic Santa Justa station

I continue my travels through Andalucia, with a day return to Cádiz from Seville. After a couple of trips on high-speed trains, it's now time to try out a regional "Media Distancia" train.
It was also a really good excuse to get to Seville Santa Justa station a bit early so that I could really appreciate its wonderful modernist architecture. The curves of the station approach change to straight lines in the concourse, to then melt back into majestic curves at the platform level. For a station that is now 30 years old, it still feels fresh and vibrant and I love it!
Departure: Seville Santa Justa, Spain
Destination: Cádiz, Spain
Distance: 102 km / 64 miles
Duration: 1hr 41 mins
Cost: Adult standard (Turista) return €26,60 / £22.95
Date of Travel: December 2022
Operator: Renfe
Motive power: Renfe Media Distancia Class 449 electric multiple unit. Built: CAF (2008-2011)

Enjoyed this video. I rode this train on Sat Mar 2, 2024. Seville station was crowded: I bought the ticket same day 16.65 euro. I wish that I had taken time to enjoy the Seville station like you highlighted. The ride was pretty uneventful, but it got me to Cadiz safely. Thanks!

Hey! A quick note: The building of the Jerez station was built in 1928-1930 (The date isnt well known) The date that you put was the inauguration of the train stop. There was a provisinal building for more that 50 years

I have done this journey and wrongly got off at the Cadiz stadium station. Had to then get a bus into town. Cadiz is an interesting place served by tourist cruises. The old railway station is next door to the modern station which is really quiet for such a big city.

Yes I know what you mean about the old and new stations. I spend a bit longer looking at them in the video about the Cádiz tram-trains. I'd happily go back to Cádiz. I loved the old town, and the ride around the bay was lovely. Thanks for watching 👍

I think the answer is "that depends". I booked my journeys about two weeks in advance and I was pleased I did because I was travelling during a period of national holidays and the trains were fairly busy. I just tried to book tickets on the Renfe app for this journey tonight (Sunday) and both possible trains were showing fully booked.
