@@sebpic_ There is a new luxury train in Italy, the Orient Express Dolce Vita, whose cars look like this. Amtrak issued an RFP earlier this week for a new long-distance fleet, perhaps they will take some inspiration from this beautiful car.
@MichaelNKaboose
7 ай бұрын
@@JuanSanchezGuerra While the RFP is not public, so we don't know exactly what Amtrak is looking for, we can assume they likely aren't going to go too luxurious and will instead opt for utilitarian. Which makes sense for AmTrak as they're on a tight enough budget as it is, new sleeper cars for the next 30-40 years is a lot of capital investment, so they'll likely look to again maximize space/utility in the size/budget they're given.
@JuanSanchezGuerra

@@MichaelNKaboose I was referring more to the modernity and sleekness of the car's design, not so much its luxuries. That being said, apparently Amtrak is taking the opportunity to create various fair/configuration levels offered on sleeper cars, perhaps some of the nicest offerings might have some nice touches like seen here.
Awesome!

Aside from roads, including the truckers, bikers snd coaches (buses) on the freeways and interstate highways in America, I see a resurgence in the US railroads being used increasingly for passenger trains going forward, as flying and air travel gradually begins to fall out of favour, just like here in the U.K. and Europe
@edwardmiessner6502

With the inconvenience of airports and the heavy traffic and bad drivers on the freeways and interstates, I'm surprised not more people are taking to the rails!
How much are tickets 🎫 and where do you book online

One day I would like to take the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul ! 5 days on the most prestigious train in the whole wide world. And may be run into Hercule Poirot !!
Ride a train for a short ride the rest of the time parked..the dome car was very nice..at the same time its so expensive to hook them up and move..ive looked into them..and even on sidings its very expensive the railroads want to rip you off for everything and my grandfather ran the bar car and dining car for northern pacific for 40 years i traveled with him on many trips from mpls to seattle and back...
so jealous Seb.

Why doesn’t Kevin sleep in his own car? We have a ball cap etiquette in America you should learn it if you travel here.
Dude, do not say final destination on a train! Lol. Remember the films?
This compares well with many of the sleeper trains in Russia & Eastern Europe and also with many cruise ship cabins, in the days before flying and air travel. Given issues around climate change, carbon footprint and all of the other hassles around flying, I suspect that these will come back into favour far more so than any Japanese innovations, even more so than high-speed rail travel
what time of the year was the train ride made?

I just assume that, the price per person is about the same as a 7-day cruse ship ... but on the top level (smile...smile).
@MichaelNKaboose
7 ай бұрын
There is no set cost, each car and room has it's own pricing depending on how long you're on the train and how many guests there are. It can vary significantly, but at minimum expect several thousand dollars per person. The cars are often available for private charter as well, though those costs get prohibitively expensive for any sort of vacation style journey for the average family.
