My 2023 R 1250 GS came with these Anakee Adventures, stock. Had about 2500 miles on them and was down in Baja California with a group of GS riders. We went to Alfonsina, and rode about 2 miles of sand and dirt road each way. For what this tire is, it actually, for my tread depth remaining, did pretty good in the soft sugar sand in a wash near the East side of the Penisula and the Sea of Cortez. If you're stuck riding sand on these, with a heavy bike, at least look for rained on, compressed sand for as much traction as possible and try to keep speed and momentum up so the tires at least get a little bit of float above the deep sand. This is absolutely the best testing I've seen of these tires. The BMW is a big heavy bike. You can clearly see how throttle sensitive the tires are to losing traction with that big torquey motor in the 1250 GS. Throttle application is extremely critical on such a big heavy bike. Obviously, it's very rare to find a front tire that does well on baby head type rocks. Glancing blows is all you're going to get, it's going to get sketchy.

Incredibly helpful review! Thank you! I was just about to replace my Anakee 3s on my 1200GS. Now going to give this Adv version some serious thought. I don't spend a lot of time out on those tougher terrains, but as another commenter mentioned, sometimes your GPS (or poor judgment) just sends you out there and there you are! Thanks again, Kyle! Hope you weren't too sore after that minor spill!

My R1250GS came with this tire. I live in the foothills of the Appalachians here in the upstate of SC. This is a great review if you live in a desert area. Here where we have real twisties, you would have found out that this tire is just AWESOME in the switchbacks we call "any road we ride". I'm definitely a 90/10 rider. I don't go searching for dirt, but I love having these tires when I happen to get fooled by my GPS and end up on a two track. Great tires!

Awesome review. Thank you. I am actually having a set of the Anakee Adventure Tires put onto my BMW F800R (over the course of our Canadian winter) and cannot wait for Spring to roll it out again. The 80/20 split is perfect, and you've convinced me I have probably made a solid choice in shifting over from sport bike michelins that were on there. I had lots of trouble riding on dusty country roads. I am hoping that the new Anakees will bring pleasure to those moments of leaving the highways. Thanks again! Ride safe and keep well.

I have a pair of these on my 1250GS and the only thing that bothers me a bit is the noise from the front tyre. For an 80/20 it's a bit to much of a humming. But they stick on tarmac, dry and wet. And for light of road, they're great. Also, after 8.000 km, they look like they can take at least another 5.000 km more, which is great. Great was also the review. Thanks a lot, guys.

  • @chaparralmotorsports

Better is relative eh... If I were to mount up the stickiest tire for Dry Twisty Roads I would probably go with the Michelin Pilot Road 5 Trail (which is not for the trail... but for street only). This is one of the most performance orientated ADV bike size tire I have ever run. Feels like a true sportbike tire. The AX41S is also a great tire as shown in my test video... but was not as sticky as the Pilot Road 5 or Road 5 Trail tires. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

My friend who is quicker in the wet than me didn't like them and went back to Road Pilots. I like these tyres and they have more grip than I have nerve. Kudos to Dave for this test. My Adventures have seen gravel and short stretches of mud on the flat. They were great for that. No soft sand!

Fantastic review and riding, nothing fake about it. Word of advice for snow riding, do not spin the tire like you’d want to in mud and unlike mud, you want the snow to stick to the tire, snow grips snow. When you spin, you make water topped ice and there’s nothing slicker than water topped ice. Good stuff and I’m sold on these tires 👍

Lift those handlebars, stand on those pegs, enduro mode with hard suspension will make a massive difference. Looks like a great tyre for what i want to do, used the Karoo 3 for a Trip into Namibia and those tyres were singing on the tar. 6800km later with a heavy load, hard riding the rear tyre was finished. This seems to be a good alternative when considering the Karoo Street 60/40 or 70/30 type tyre for road adventure. Thanks for the vid.

Hey Kyle, not sure if you've used them after your test, but they have (IMO) a major drawback: the softer compound on the sides wears off really quickly - I live in the Black Forest (basically only twisties, hardly any straight roads;-) - and after about 1500 miles, the center part is still as good as new, but the sides are worn down below the legal limit, and they're not fun to ride anymore, the bike starts sliding in the bends.

Now coming back after I purchased a set and installed on my 2019 F750GS. It is everything you said it was, however, at the end of your review you mentioned the noise, which I would call an annoying howl that these tires make when turning or even going straight at 60+ mph. It is something that street oriented folks like me may not want to live with. After putting on 500 miles, I am looking for a quieter experience tire. My goal was fire-road capability, so worn Anakee 3’s OEM were replaced with the Adventure. Any suggestion?

Hello, thanks for watching and your input. We tested quite a few tires in our ADV 80/20 and 50/50 shootout but didn't grade the noise of each tire--something we will keep in mind for next time. With that said, we did really like the Shinko 705s, they weren't too noisy. Noise can be different from rider to rider based on a multitude of factors such as sound sensitivity, exhaust, etc. But if you find the tires too loud you could always use ear plugs if you aren't already. Thanks again for watching.

Kyle, Thanks so much for the complete test. Too many ADV tire tests are done on street only. The only thing I wish for is a comparison, in your words, of how the tire fits into the market WRT the Tourance, TKC70, Rally STR, etc. I've used all those, and I am seriously considering the Michelin for my '08 R1200GS. In my riding the Tourance is an old friend, but not quite as dirty as it could be , the TKC70 front scares me but i like the back. The STR did an amazing job of getting me through deep sand an up the rocky climb to Mike Sky Rancho, but is awfully shallow treaded. Is the Adventure my next all-around tire? (With any all-around tire I sometimes switch to an Anakee Wild in front for tough conditions.)

  • @chaparralmotorsports

Thanks for your inquiry Ted. This Anakee Adventure tire is a great all around tire as long as the going does not get too deep ;) The Anakee Wild or the new Bridgestone AX41 tire will really be the better ALL around tires as they really do a good job on-road and the will not leave you stranded or crashed off-road. I am personally a fan of running a more aggressive off-road tire all the time because "when you need it, you NEED it!" Again, my 2 cents... - Kyle

@@chaparralmotorsports Thanks, I was struggling with all the tyre comparisons. Out of it all I'm going with the Anakees. Loved these Motoz, but they getting a bit loose cornering, as they wear. Riding on gravel is always a concern, the big GS wants to just bite into the gravel berms, and throw me off. A combination chunky for front, but then you compromise road cornering...

Hey Kyle, have you had a chance to ride these on pavement in rain? Very interested in getting a set if they work well in wet road conditions. Will be visiting family in your area later in Spring and depending on what you think on wet roads, I’ll have you guys put on a set on my GSA. Good, honest video, much appreciated. Thx!

Thank you for your message thehexter1. Yes, I commuted for just over a week in POURING rain. They really work well. IF I did not travel extreme dirt roads on the weekend, I would consider these tires on my personal bike. They work really really well.

Chaparral Motorsports Thx for the quick reply, kind of shocked me! 😄 Not much of an off-road guy but do travel a lot on long trips all over the western USA & Canada. Never know what I’m going to hit road wise so looking to replace the Anakee 3’s soon. BTW, are the Adv’s as noisy as the 3’s? They are maddening!

@@thehexter1 Ha! Ha! Ha! That is the biggest complaint about the Anakee 3. I too found them super noisy... even more so than my K60 Scout tires! Hard to believe I know... We have just over 1k miles on the Anakee Adventure tires now and they are still quiet. Happy Adventuring! - Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

I’m really unsure of what tires to go with, I’m running anakee wilds at the moment, the rear is totally worn out so it time for a new rear. I have a newish set of anakee 3s spare but they’re not aggressive enough for me. I want to keep the anakee wild on the front for extra stability off-road but I’m not sure whether to get another wild rear, or the anakee adventure rear. Any advice?

The Anakee Adventure rear did push forward... but I would totally run a Wild front and Adventure rear. That would be a long lasting combo. That being said... Wild front & rear will give you the best off road performance, for sure! - Kyle

So what would you recommend between the Michelin Adventure or the AX41 Bridgestone??

  • @chaparralmotorsports

    @chaparralmotorsports

It all depends on where I was headed... Personally, the AX41 as it is a true OFF Road tire and that is where I like to ride. Challenging Off Road to places that most won't take a big bike. If I were a asphalt or primarily gravel road rider, the Michelin would be a great tire... but that isn't the style of riding that I personally do "off the clock." - Kyle

What about noise generated from the tires, is it as expected or better or worse

ZERO noise! I logged about 800 miles on the BMW and have nearly 2k miles on these tires on an Africa Twin. They have ZERO noise! I really really like them. We have a Death Valley video which will be released soon featuring these tires... 900 miles of street over a single weekend (to and from the event) and they are quiet. - Kyle

The Anakee 3 is a good road tire, but the Anakee Adventure is not only a better road tire than the Anakee 3 in my opinion, it is quieter and it kills it off-road! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
