Saw them live at the Royal Albert Hall in 94. The sun was out & hot, they had released Carnival of Light and you could still smoke in venues back then. Mildly drunk, very stoned, it will always be a memory I will always cherish.

Critics were expecting this to be a follow-up to "Going Blank Again" and instead Ride made more of a departure from the more "Shoegaze" sound and made a straight up rock record instead. Sometimes disappointing the critics is the best way to go.

It is a great album but Ride themselves don't seem to like it, probably because it was a low point for them in their time as a band. The album itself though is gold.

I read a review of this album in publication for marijuana enthusiasts when I was in high school, and went out an bought it the next day- Super track! I love the sitar, Hammond organ (played by John Lord, I believe) and the spacey, psychedelic feel on this track- "From Time to Time" and "Birdman" are also great tracks from this album.

Loz Colbert (The drummer) was getting so good that they had to find a way of calming him down. Because he was dominating the songs so much. That's the real reason RIDE changed style

For real!! He was a monster that I compare to Keith Moon of the WHO. But unfortunately this was a battle between Mark and Andy for more control of writing. I interviewed both of them when I was a DJ at KUCR in 95 and both of them eluded to the same thing. Especially when I was with Andy and Ida at the Stone Roses concert on May 25th at the Hollywood Palladium up on the balcony where we talked about it more. But nice try on the fake news!!!!!

i remember eagerly awaiting snippets of the new ride album on australian independent radio and struggling to make sense of it. looking back, i'm sure i was expecting GBA+, and couldn't handle such a massive shift, but years and years make the difference, and this whole album is close to perfect.

Ride were the nuts, still are, always will be. This track is genius, like most of their stuff. We could all write NME inspired Manchester scene borne reviews, but why? Don't compare them to anyone else, they were unique, and stood head and shoulders above the shoe-gazing try-hards. Just enjoy it! Saw them at a secret fan club gig at the ULU in '91 and they were brilliant, as always! Ride on ;)

After 2 landmark Shoegaze albums (and boy, do they still stand up today) I remember enjoying the open windows, fresh air and Byrdsian jangle of "Carnival.." at the time. Still do, very much. Re the critics at the time...guess you can't win. Shoegaze was a critical punch bag as hacks were graduating from grunge to Britpop and then they have a pop at Ride for moving away from...Shoegaze. Go Figure.

I actually preferred this album to some of there previous work as I enjoyed more than 2 songs.I thought they matured, still shoegazing music just with a bit more attitude.I saw them with the charlatans at brighton daytripper gig and that was the only time as wasnt a great fan until this album.its a taste thing.
