Ride in the Pay'n Pak with Chip Hanauer

R/C hydro champion Fred Olson goes for the ride of a lifetime in the 1973 Pay'n Pak with 11 time Gold Cup winner Chip Hanauer at the wheel. The ride took place at the 2022 Mahogany and Merlot event at Lake Chelan, Washington. The yearly event is put on by the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum and features hydroplane exhibitions, food, drink, music, displays and much more. Video by David Heye, photos by Chris Denslow.

I still have a complete Dumas 1/8 scale 73 Pay 'n Pak, still in the Box, And a Nib Pico 90 Hydro for it, Speedmaster 1/4" running gear. All of it,, still waiting. Hmm. Thanks for the ride Thunderboats Video. Shook Chips hand a few years ago, at one of the Twin Lakes Races above Seattle. I think it was around 2016?. He was pushing a gentleman around in a wheelchair, a Ex-RC Hydro racer I believe. No announcement before the races online or anywhere, they just showed up on Gold Sunday to sign autographs and watch the RC races. Nice to see he is still taking the old veterans for a spin, to this day. Chip has earned his Angels Wings.

I was there that day. Chip was by far turning the hottest laps of any of the drivers. Awesome! 😊

Man would I love to do that. Id love to just have the opportunity to meet Chip. This boat was one of my favorites as a child growing up on puget sound. I would go to Lake Washington just to see time trials as a kid. Chip Hanauer will always be my favorite driver. Thanks for this video
I met Chip when the Miller American boat was on display in Spokane Valley back in the mid 80's. Nice guy and very open. Plus I got an autographed pic.

My favorite boat of all time.. I was in Seattle and went to see it at the museum.. right after they finished refurbishing it..I would kill to be able to do this
