I work at a gas station and a lady talks to herself like gollum, and today she told herself to shut up and this guy said I didn't say anything to you and she said she was talking to herself. Made me think of this scene lol

When Gollum says- “And If it loses, we eats it whole” Bilbo’s like- 0_0 then says, “Fair enough”. My favorite part of this movie

@@niconachozstudio1952 He wasn't a bad person, he just got insta corrupted by the ring. It can make good people do terrible things, and he had no guidance of any sorts. He has the corrupted alter ego (gollum) that takes the lead. As you see in the lord of the rings how happy he is being with frodo after gollum left. That's the real smeagol. But faramir ruined it.

Smeagol wants to play with his food before he eats it.

3:12 LOOK at Sméagol’s pupils. They are big, meaning “Gollum” isn’t present. When Bilbo says “just you and me”, Sméagol is very excited by this because he believes that rids him of the ring and Gollum. It’s a way out for him. An escape. If you remember in LOTR, he says “I hate you” when Gollum is talking. He wants to be free all the time. How subtle yet brilliant this line is.

1:57 The audience burst out loud into laughter at that line.

Gollum only appeared in one scene in the book. Andy Serkis completed that scene during the first week of production, but stayed on as second unit director.

Freeman's pause after Gollum's "eats it whole" question is what sells the last bit and makes it so funny. We're left for about four seconds trying to imagine what Bilbo is thinking about a game with the risk of being cannibalized if he loses.

My thought process that went along with Freeman: - 6 to 7 seconds of silence - Imagining what possibly Gollum meant by "eats it whole" - Sudden realization at what Freeman got himself into - "Just agree with the gollum-thing and be on our way." Please, Jackson. Take my like and have a pleasant day. ^^

What I was saying was that the Hobbit films shouldn't have tried to be like Lord of the Rings (which is did at multiple points, particularly the later films). If it had kept the lighter tone seen in this scene for example, and had generally been more like the book, it would have been much more successful.

I think alot of this has to do with this scene; gollum doesnt know he lost the ring until the last riddle which brings gollum to check his pockets to find he doesn't have the ring anymore, and eventually become violent.

What’s so impressive about this reprisal, and how it was handled compared to lord of the rings, is the callbacks and mannerisms they bring back. Not just the obvious stuff. For instance, the way Sméagol says “…Up, up up it goes…” it is the exact same way he says it in Lord of the Rings when describing the Secret Stair, with the SAME mannerism with his hands. Absolutely insane detail.

Imagine Bilbo's fear when his sword stops glowing. Not because the Goblin had just been killed, but because Sting only glows when Orcs or Goblins are nearby. So he's probably thinking "If that creature isn't an Orc or Goblin, what in the name of Middle Earth is it?"

This whole scene was the best part of the movie. It was so awesome to see Gollum again.

This scene is so scary, funny, weird, and my favorite scene out of the entire Hobbit film trilogy.

say what you will about this hobbit but this scene was spot on. i just wish they kept this grit and tone throughout the movie, less cgi orcs, 2 movies and kept the far over theme

Gollum didn't come from the Shire, he lived in the Vale of the Anduin River, relatively close to where Isildur died and lost the ring and also the tunnels in the misty mountains where he made his home

You can bitch all on The Hobbit you want but you can't deny that this whole section is exepertly crafted

Martin Freeman is fantastic as Bilbo, great actor. And i think Andy Serkis might have actually made his version of Gollum superior to the Gollum from the books.

It's amazing how Smeagol's real personality is funny and childlike as his possessive self, Gollum is more serious, smarter, and untrustworthy, knowing that there's something not right.

You’d think Gollum would know a fellow Hobbit when he saw one
