Is the Ricoh GRiii the perfect compact camera for street and travel photography? Based on my time with the camera this year, I’d say yes.
Having made the switch from the Fujifilm X100V to the Ricoh GRiii • Why I Switched From th... I took the camera on a 3 week trip to Japan. It quickly became my most used camera - shooting with it was an absolute joy.
In this second article about my Diary Edition version of the camera, I’ll review the GRiii and tell you why I think this is the best everyday carry for street and travel photographers.

Your passion and practicality for the Ricoh GR III made me pull the trigger and get one! I am so excited. I was going to get the Fuji X100VI but I already have the XT5. I really wanted a pocketable street/travel camera and the X100VI isn’t really pocketable. I learned on film, medium format and range finders, but I’ve always loved compacts. I agree with you about the film recipes getting in the way of capturing the moment. Thanks for such great content!

Thank you so much! I’m so pleased you enjoyed the video 😊🙏 The GR3 is the best pocketable camera for sure! I shot with it and the X100VI in China last week. Undoubtedly the latter is a fantastic camera but I prefer the GR3. New video coming up comparing the two 😁 not sure if I’ll keep or sell the X100V1 at this stage.

Great overview Matt, and really enjoyed the images. It does seem like a nice alternative to the X100 series. Also, well done on the U2 references!

Great photos Matt, really love the colors you're getting! The Ricoh really is such a great camera. I took mine out to a hike here and used the macro mode to take the some mushroom pictures🍄. You can get so close to the subject.

I love my GR cameras. The GRIII and GRIIIx do have overheating issues for me on hot summer days - in the Pacific Northwest that is. So I do not want to know how quickly they overheat in the Australian summer.

@@MattLovesCameras I tried shooting the Gay Pride Parade in Seattle two years ago with the GRIIIx in July(?) and the GRIIIx lasted for about 20 minutes with power on before it overheated. I shot the rest of the day on my Leica MP on film. I also still have the GRII which NEVER had any overheating issues. On hot days, I would probably pick the GRII over the GRIII(x).

Mine arrived last week and got extremely hot while setting it up. Next day took out for. Spin and it got warm it was 25 c . I’ve written to seller they are going to call me back re this issue. It should not get hot. I have Fuji cameras and shoot all day in Australian summer heat, and no issues.
