I love how the whole bit was built up for that joke. He made everyone think he was actually drunk, then made it sound like he's just trying to defend himself by saying "I like a drink as much as the next man..:" and then BOOM he dropped that punchline. Sheer brilliance.

Ricky Gervais was amazing as presenter. These 9 minutes are pure entertainment. Really funny stuff. It's only extremely mildly offensive. This is much funnier than Seth Rogen's presenting in 2013.

8:12 what makes this is so funny is that everyone in the room knew the punchline as they knew who was presenting next but we the audience didn't which just builds the anticipation with the giggling in the room and grinning and how ricky gervias just builds it up so perfectly it is beautiful.

I watched a season and half of Louie and I just can't get into it, I had the same problem with Curb Your Enthusiasm.

He tells it like it is, thats why some actors don’t like him but he’s brilliant how he keys in to their personal issues whether they like it or not.

For all the cries of controversy and complaints of stars not being able to get over themselves, I actually thought the audience reaction in this video was very positive. Tons of sincere laughter and applause. Not sure what all the fuss was about...

I dont watch these shows so I never realized how many he's hosted. He's brilliant 😂 using the truth disguised as humor. I love it.

Ricky got a huge applause when he came on at the start...this was before they had any idea what was about to come! Then everytime he did it again he wasn't met with such a rapturous reception lol

This is why Gervais is blacklisted in Hollywood. The guy is such a genius, writes great material but gets screwed over because he insulted everyone in Hollywood for 4 years in a row doing Golden Globes hahaha. What a badass!!!

I never really rated Ricky until I watched this, now I think he's a legend with balls the size of Jupiter. He completely roasted them and they loved him for it.

Binge watching the roastings from 2010 to 2020 in 2020, absolutely hilarious, Legendary.

this is fucking great. Celebrities are so used to having their asses kissed, this is a beautiful breath of fresh air. This is exactly function comedy should serve. Gervais is a legend.

The greatest thing about this whole thing was Ricky Gervais tearing apart every single bit of all the hypocrisy and things that aren't talked about - and doing so with a huge mischievous smile. It's just awesome.

One of the rare times I can say I'm proud to be British watching this. The guy has a brand of humour all of his own and doesn't just go on stage to pick up his fee by massaging their gigantic egos. Great.

Man it's non stop comedy! Not one joke is unfunny, man's a killer!

Pretty sure whenever they hear Gervais announced to say something they all clap but under their breath go "Oh no..." and I love every second of it.

You'd expect Gervais to have written a good monologue, but what's so striking is how good his delivery is. The Kiefer Sutherland joke, for example

It was nice to see Bill Paxton smiling at 8:40 but also sad. He was a great actor and person. Also interesting to note that the 2 couples shown after him are no longer together.
