when she said "dad.." that's what did it. He's got a soft spot for that, having a complicated daught with his own daughter himself. Really neat detail that rick saw a lot of himself in pissmaster, he could relate to him, being generally disliked by other people. Plus rick also attempted to unalive himself in season 2. Seeing that he had a similar family situation probably was the final cherry on top. Rick's capability for empathy being developed more and more as the show goes on is pretty well done. This episode was huge for his character, and his interactions with the therapist are great, and an unexpectedly honest/accurate depiction of therapy

@@basedxrp I was coming from the perspective of a parent, not as a child. I never knew my father and my mother never knew how to love anyone, much less me. But my mother is the only parent I have ever known, and regardless of what she’s done and how she treats me and how she is as a person… I can’t help but love the person who made me. And as a father of three who only has access to two and barely gets to see the two kids I do have access to… no matter what my kids will love me. They may all one day grow up and move on and want very little to do with me because of how they could feel like I wasn’t there for them like they needed because I couldn’t afford to fight to be there… but even then they’ll still love their dad because it’s their dad you’re talking about. Should I fall ill they may not tend to me, but should I pass away they’ll most certainly mourn me. I imagine it’s the same for you. Regardless of your relationship with your own parents, YOU still love THEM, because as their child they’re the only parents you’ve ever known, even if they technically didn’t raise you. I wanna tell y'all something I met a girl this year and she was really cute. I sat right next to her for social studies class. My best friend sat behind me though and he knew that I liked her. He asked her for her number and he got it. I cried myself to sleep that night. The next day I noticed that they weren't there. They got counted absent and about a minute later they were knocking on the classroom door. I saw them laughing together and my best friend looked at me. He knew something was wrong as soon as he did. That's cause there was something wrong. I was tearing up and I opened the door for them anyway. I had my head down the rest of the school day. I hate myself for not making a move or saying anything like "you're pretty" or "you look good today". I've been on this KZread short for hours and it's 3:14 a.m . So that would mean I was crying for about 4 hours. I was debating on making this comment because the average human would say " who asked" or "nobody cares" but I did it anyway. Have a good day. (Edit: the teacher forced me to open the door, because when I said I didn't want to she would call the principal.)

Okay, it seems a lot of people misunderstood the scene. Okay so Rick doesn't feel bad because wife was killed. Rick stopped because of the "...I would never stop blaming myself." Diane's death wasn't who made Rick "The Rickest Rick" see it was beth. And since we see in the season 5 finally the outfall of him losing his daughter and wife. And in the season 6 premiere we see that Rick blames himself for both of their deaths. See Rick understands loss through tragedy. And refuses to let vengeance ruin another person's life. Also he's in a way protecting Jerry as the sewer slide note fully blames him. I love this episode because the running theme is Rick isn't supposed to do anything but in this episode Rick does everything that season 1-5 Rick wouldn't. No he isn’t, this is the robot the real rick made to take care of his family while he was looking For the killer of his real family, i hope this makes sense, if you need more to understand, watch the lightsaber episode after this one
I think the “love you dad” was what inspired Rick to give him a heroic death because it’s what he wished he would hear from his daughter but knows he doesn’t because of the wrong decisions he makes.
I’m really glad to see Rick’s progression, season 1 Rick would’ve done all this to feed his own ego while teaching some nihilistic lesson about how terrible people are. To see him now actually help someone else for no reason shows that he was always a good man, just a broken one

when she said "dad.." that's what did it.

It reminded me of that episode of Adventure Time showing the Ice King when he was young raising Marcelene (or however you spell her name) and how he slowly became corrupted by the magic crown, slowly taking his memory including the connection with his daughter. And then that episode of Regular Show when Mordecai finally had that one good date with Margaret, and then he got mixed up with C.J and everything came crashing down for him emotionally. If there’s one thing I loved about those cartoons, it’s that they seemed to actually age with me and encapsulated a lot of the experienced that I was going through at the time. Rick is not a bad father. He never left Beth, his Beth got killed. The Beth we know is from another reality where her Rick abandoned her or maybe died and never came back. So he couldn’t ignore this poor girl, specially after finding out that her father committed suicide. That was the sweetest thing I ever saw him do.

It's such a dark and redeeming episode for him, but those emotional synth tracks are what do it every time.
I talk about shows like rick and morty and adventure time and people tell me there just shit shows with no plot or character development and then theres shit like this that literally has me contemplating life and shit like rick has some of the most amazing writing put into his character. Adventure time is another one litterally one of the best storys out there. Like the amount of talent it takes to build a world like these is fucking amazing.
Rick knows pain and wants to avoid others feeling it but he also puts up a wall so you rarely see the good but when you do its always beautiful. Rick is an extremely complex character.

I think the reason why rick in morty is the best if not top 3 for adult animations is because of the serious parts, shit makes it so good.
Bro this scene honestly hits so hard. There isn’t a single scene throughout the series that comes down hard like this. It’s a cartoon but you feel that connection still

The growth in Rick is honestly amazing! I. The beginning of him being more human I was annoyed but as he’s grown it’s really really nice
A hero died, became a villain. Only to die inside, and become a hero.
For those who don’t know, the person he was impersonating killed themself. So Rick went on to impersonate them and have them die a hero so the family who wouldn’t know the truth behind it all.
Rick being a good father caught in 4k 😭😭
POV you're a hitman
Man has a soft spot for daughters... and I respect it.
Never thought I’d feel for a guy named “Pissmaster”
I think from there, Rick felt almost a deeper connection with Piss Master, what was some seemingly random annoyance at that moment was someone just like him. Left his family alone to persue what he thought was the path he wanted, but it all came crashing down around him. He felt that if he didn't right Piss Master's wrongs, then this girl that wasn't all too much different from his own daughter would never love the fool he was again.

A child never stops loving their parents. They just recalibrate the way they express it.

Rick is far more human than he cares to admit he’s really mellowed with his experiences with his family. I love the character progression as he’s willing to be selfless even for those he basically doesn’t know. Don’t think Season 1 Rick would’ve really cared but it’s always a chance due to the connection between him and his daughter/wife. Idk but I love it nonetheless

This Rick and Simple Rick are the only two Ricks we know of that chose their family over themselves.
Rick's not a asshole he just knows that there is no point to anything but every now and then he sees himself in someone else and does what he can so they don't become entirely like him and that's why he's such a good character

Context: Rick found pissmaster in a bath tub where pissmaster killed him self after jerry beat the shit out of him and made a fool out of pissmaster and made him a laughing stock so he killed himself
It's a shame Justin turned out to be a piece of shit I was really loving the character development for Rick. It was fitting for his character.
