Just by the looks of it, seams like a prop for a clownshow; the colors and size make it look like a toy to me, almost like a clowny colored banjo with horns. If it sounds and performs awesomely once it's set up (great tone, playability and tuning stability) that's what really matters, but I'd look for that in a guitar that I think looks better and more serious for my taste. No disrespect intended, it's just how it strikes me.

@@justiceforall6412 O that explains a lot though. I live in the netherlands which is like 5-6 hours driving from thomann's location. So for me its almost a local shop but if it needs to be shipped over seas then you may have issues with returning and wood doesnt preserve well on sea so that can also be the issue with the guitars you received. my previous epi was also ordered on thomanns website. (our local shop only has brands but their pricing is sometimes higher than on thomann).

I bought this guitar for a bit of fun not expecting much about a year ago, it's not a rick (actually think the comparison is unfair but that's Thomann's fault), but it's good rhythm guitar in its own right and the neck pup has a surprisingly nice bark. A good vid that does it justice.

I think it would have been good if you had added a segment at the end of the video that shows what the guitar can sound like with the minor setup issues resolved. In this way, people could decide if the guitar and a little extra werk is worth the effort to them. Great video, thanks much.

Their 12 string guitar is really nice from what I have heard and seen. Has that jangle to it. This one seems nice too. I think with the majority of guitar manufacturers, quality control isn't what it used to be. It seems like they are too in a hurry to make them and get them out the door. I stopped buying brand names and went to off name guitars because they do seem nicer and easier to deal with. You can make a 100$ or £ guitar sound like a 1000$ /£ if you can set it to your liking and do some work on them. I recently bought a Wolf WRK300 and the company I got it from did all that and it is super nice. I doubt Rickenbacker would do the same with theirs. I always wanted one, but as of late, I have been hearing mixed reviews about their quality. But if you are looking for that perfect guitar, it's best to build your own. Its more affordable and fun. I built a Combo 100/ Symfonia Grand of my own. Beats paying thousands for something you can do for like 300$.

But like many of these types of guitars - with the right set up which includes reversing the string positions of the octave strings, using some specific effects, and flatwound strings you can end up with a close approximation soundwise for about a third of the price of the real thing. Love my Harley Benton (HB) RB-600. I love the look and sound of Rickenbackers (RB) but hate their fretboards. I really don't like the gloss finish on the RB fretboards and the frets are so low. Also, RB fretboards are quite flat. I've owned a Rickenbacker 620 and sold it for these reasons. Regardless of the price, I much prefer playing my HB RB-600 with its more traditional / contemporary fretboard design. Plays like a dream with nice low action 🤙

Excellent Review - HB quality can be great and or ..... not so great. I purchased a HB Les Paul style in 2019 that is really good, but my understanding is the chinese factory used is the same one as Gibson uses for Epiphones. As for the grain angle on the back, the layout guy at the factory had to avoid a wood flaw and gave no consideration to what a guitar buyer looks for. I totally agree with the LOGO problem, they should have duplicated the closest they can without copy-rite, the Rickenbacker Head stock design. Thanks again for your site.

I own the twelve string version. For the price, it's OK. The internal finish is very rough, as mentioned in the video. The biggest problem is that each string pair shares a channel in the tail piece. If you break a single string, it is almost impossible to restring it singly. You have to replace the string pair. The little metal squiggly design makes it hard to use needle nose pliers to hold the ball end. I sent a message to Thomann, and they said "turn the guitar upside down" which doesn't make it any easier. A stop tail piece would be much more useful.

I choose to have mine done professionally, but here's the thing. A.) every guitar I've gotten from HB (3 now) was almost perfectly in tune out of the box (from Germany to Florida in shipping) B.) Some models are better than others at staying in tune. This is one of the good ones (CST 24/24HB are also good) C.) If you're paying 200 bucks or less for a guitar inspired by one that costs $2,000, you shouldn't be that upset with an extra $100 to sharpen it up a bit, you're still like $1,700 under the actual price of a real one, and it's now as perfectly set up as it can be... I can't explain how nice it is to own something that isn't a squire strat for 200 bucks or less that is more than acceptable build quality and totally different to any other guitar you can buy at that price. They're worth it.

As a very long time Rickenbacker owner, since 1971, my first tip is take that bridge cover off and lose it, you cant mute strings with the damn thing on and easier to anchor you right hand. Not like there are aftermarket up grades. Thourgh review.

  • @hammerpocket

The all-white pick guard is more in line with a Rickenbacker guitar, which has a two-piece stacked pick guard made of 1/8-inch acrylic with about 1/4-inch space between the two layers. It's hard to tell from the pictures I've seen what this Harley Benton model's pick guard is made of, but it certainly would look cheap if it's a standard, thin pick guard material.

I like the vintage funky flavor in looks and tone, this looks like a fun little guitar. I already have plenty of serious guitars. In today's market, we fine pick tiny finish flaws on even the cheapest guitars, but pay $2500. extra for a Custom shop relic Strat that looks like it fell out the back of a moving truck. I fully understand some musician's fascination with Harley Benton. I used to criticize HBenton years ago before having tried one and that was foolish. Fortunately I am lucky enough to have several guitars that are mid price to high price and believe me I'm 55 and if there's one thing I've learned it's how to be grateful for your lot in life. Nevertheless I have owned approximately 10 or 12 Harley Bentons and I have sold them all and honestly they are worth what you pay for them for example a H Benton SC-550 that costs 260 euros is worth 260 euros it's not worth 600 euros like certain Epiphone Les Paul models. But Harley Benton came in at prices sometimes lower than your Squier Affinity and Epiphone Special and are far better so it helps that a lot of musicians especially younger kids who can get a decent or a few decent guitars without breaking the bank.

The Chinese are ripping off established manufacturers brand identities for their own gain. Unacceptable! They are destroying the planet by using up masses of unsustainable timbers which would be better employed removing the horrendous carbon output from their un-eco friendly factories. Unacceptable! They are mass producing absolute crap for peanuts to satisfy the materialistic desires of western consumers. Western guitar manufacturers are attempting to trim their costs by reducing quality control to try and reclaim a decent profit margin on the superior timber, hardware and build quality and finishing they apply to their products. The Chinese are undermining the entire musical instrument industry by plagiarising established brands in order to fill the budget market with kinda lookalike crap to entice amateur musicians into believing that for a minimum spend they can live the dream. These instruments are not in any way of a professional quality. They have little to no re-sale value. At best, they provide a poor musician some fantasy bedroom posing and at worst, they plague the world with future landfill on a massive scale. Most people who buy these inferior, copyright infringing instruments will regret not saving the money they have parted with and putting it towards attaining the real thing. The Chinese are undermining the work most major companies have put into their products and it is our desire for a bargain that is blinkering us to the harm they are doing. If it seems too good to be true, it most likely is........ just my honest opinion.
