    Nick. Hello from San Francisco. I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this. I followed your instructions and I finally adjusted the intonation on my Ric 4003 that I have had since 2001. Though time consuming to keep loosening the strings, it totally worked.

    The easiest way to adjust the intonation of a Rickenbacker is so simple... Replace it with the Hipshot Rickenbacker bridge! It is modeled to look like a regular 4001/4003 bridge and it's made of actual metal instead of whatever chrome plated mystery substance Rickenbacker uses... Great for added sustain also.

    Bruce, I hear ya, I'm old and I can't stand hauling that heavy Rick case around. I found that my 1981 4001 Bass fits perfectly into my Spector Euro 4LX soft case. It's a really nice case with lots of padding to protect the bass. I know this doesn't help you but the cases are sold separately over here in Japan. I'm not sure if the cases are sold separately in the states but if you can find a case similar to the Spector case it might work for your Rickenbacker. If I can figure out how to post a photo of the case to KZread I'll try.

    Bruce, I found a website here in Japan that sells Spector cases. It seems to be an EBAY type of site, I've never used this site so I can't vouch for it. This will give you an idea what kind of Spector cases they have. I'd recommend checking the measurements on the cases and then take measurements of your bass. Also be careful of shipping charges from Japan and also import tax and duties. You might be able to find a similar type of case in the states so you won't have to deal with import taxes. Here's the site: www-sekaimon-com.translate.goog/s/spector%20bass%20case/-/all?_x_tr_sl=ja&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=ja&_x_tr_pto=nui,op,elem,sc

    One time years ago on my first bass way back in high school 2002 I decided to try to improve my sound by messing with the thrust rod n tail piece. The nightmare I unintentionally unleashed had to have taken a few years off my life , the levels of stress and frustration were more than I had ever experienced then or since . It wasn’t even a rick i had a rogue $129 starter bass it was pretty simple design i just had no experience. Even now I wouldn’t dare attempt it again let alone with my rick, how ever it came from the factory is how it’s gonna stay until I die. I’ll probably die of stress the day I get brave enough to start messing with the double thrust rods in the rick and the innotation process yep that will do I’ll wake up dead

    Hi, love your very useful and well presented videos. How do you 'turn round" the bridge saddles on a Rickenbacker 4003. The A saddle needs to be further forward to achieve perfect intonation. To do that I think I need to 'turn it round". Is it possible without a ball ache of work?

    @bass-hiroshimanick2534

    David, thanks so much for the kind words and thanks for watching. Yes, you can turn the bridge saddle around I've done it a couple of times. Completely unscrew the intonation screw at the back the bridge being careful not to lose the spring or let it fly out, flip the saddle around and then put the screw back in with the spring in place. I will say, one time I had trouble with one saddle, when I flipped it around for some reason the screw would not go through the screw hole. I had to re-thread the screw hole in the saddle. I'm guessing the threads were stripped in the saddle. I have an extra Rick bridge so if you'd like I'll do a quick video showing how to do that. Keep me posted and let me know how it goes.

    I have a newer rickenbacker 4003s/5 bass with the upgraded schaller bridge coming in the mail, so I shouldn't have to deal with anything as annoying as that. Regardless, one of the biggest reasons I've seen people say not to get a rickenbacker is because of the truss rods and how annoying it is to intonate with the stock bridge. But honestly, after looking at a few videos, it all seems to make plenty of sense to me, and I don't think it would be such an issue. It all seems very simple when you break it down, it's just something people don't seem to want to mess with I guess. And I suppose for a $2k bass, you really shouldn't have to.
