Nothing like this could ever be played live on those early synths. They not only played one note at a time (monophonic not polyphonic) but could only be programmed to make one sound, and needed time-consuming rewiring with patch cords before another sound could be produced. People like Wakeman and Keith Emerson were not just musical virtuosos, they were part engineer too!

Even without backup accompaniment by orchestra and choir, this version of Wakeman's incredible, musical retelling of Jules Verne's classic is a stunning masterpiece! His mastery of numerous keyboards is unmatched by anyone I have ever seen or heard! It is like hearing the show for the first time! The vocalist handles the story well enough, over-emphasizing at points with notes not heard by the original singers in the album of 1974, but the entire performance, without the narrative script, is impressive and memorable! Thanks for this reimagined, stirring, visual upload on one of my favorite albums!

The first Moog was invented in Trumansburg, NY, USA. There is a historic placard in front of the building today.
My first ever concert in California, must have been 1974, was Wakeman at the Hollywood Bowl with the whole orchestra and choir on stage. Did the album live with dinosaur effects and all. It was something I will never forget. I must have been 13 or 14 years old. My 18 year old sister took me.

Well my friends that I was going with, dropped the acid we were gonna do at the concert the day before, and ended up in the hospital and nobody got to go. lol I'm lucky I didn't do any. lol Went to CAL JAM 2 a few years later.

I was extremely fortunate to have seen this musical Genius on his first tour as he performed in The Arie Crown Theatre in McCormick Place , Chicago ! I was enthralled then & remember my guests being totally overwhelmed by his incredible original performance & wardrobe that befit the young Master ! I still relish the thought of having the honor of a Rick Wakeman performance ...... Appears he does not age or have any decline in his age ! I pray Rick remins in good form & his health remains great. He really doesn't look like he's aged a year .......... Nick , NavyBlueSmoke , LST-1195
Still my favorite my kids are in their forties and fifties and they love this music this is their favorite album it sure does have staying power
Simply beautiful. Good times in that the music were wonderful.

ok so, i listened to the album journey to the center of the earth with my dad when i was about 7/8 years old, and hearing it again after many years has comforted my heart. I listened to this wonder on long car rides with him, and we tried to sing, both vocals and instruments with him lol anyway, I just wanted to thank you for the existence of this gem that helped me a lot on the path of life.
The MASTER amazes once again! Rick thank you for years & years of music, I’ve seen you perform 3 times, all in the early 70’s...so far,
I knew Rick when he recorded THIS album for the 1st time, in 1974. I was 15 years old and became a fan of his amazing work.

I saw him perform the whole album in Adelaide in 75? (I think), complete with gigantic inflatable dinosaur! At the interval he came out and said that he had a new album and was going to play it for us after the break. 6 Wives of Henry the 8th. What an amazing show! Will live with me forever. Thanks Rick!

Nothing beats RW's musicianship, it's like kind of impossible...
I remember seeing the original production on PBS when I was a kid. How I wish I could get a video of that! Not just the size and pageantry, but watching Wakeman in his "fortress of keyboards". He would be playing one front of him, and a totally different part on a keyboard directly behind him, sight unseen 🤯
