Shane's brutal honesty when he says, "you know that Dale's death and the prisoner are two separate things, right?" He's kind of right about that, I feel. They wouldn't have done it if he hadn't died, and so they were doing it in his spirit. Dale's point was that if they kill people then it changes who they are. He says that the tradeoff isn't worth making the group safer. If they become the people who kill those who are innocent because it's better for their safety what does that make them? Alive. Alive but what kind of a life is it living with that guilt. Shane - and everyone else - thought it was one worth living, Dale did not. Everyone was afraid of the danger so they sided with Shane even though it seemed a lot of them faced much more mental strain than Shane did. Maybe that's because they refused to accept that it was the only way to survive, or maybe it really wasn't worth it. Dale's death took an emotional toll on everyone, and I think it gave them an excuse to ignore the blatant risk, and let that be tomorrow's problem.
@Smellyherb_

the kid wasnt a risk, shane was paranoid back here.
@Tyler_W
8 ай бұрын
Dale was right, though. The issue wasn't necessarily killing people in and of itself. Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do when you're given no other choice. The problem is that they were about to kill someone who as far as we know was an innocent kid when they had other options for no other reason than personal convenience. Exiting him was just as likely to be a death sentence anyway, and there's no guarantee he either would've made it even tried to go back to his original group, especially if they were smart ajd tried to drop him off in the opposite direction of his former group. Driving him an hour or two in the opposite direction would've taken coming back to town off the table. Shane was advocating straight up murder, killing someone when that wasn't the only valid solution available to them. It's worth noting that in the long view of the show, although Rick doesn't exactly reflect Dale's lerspective because he does indeed adapt to the harsh realities of the world around him, Rick does come closer to Dale's perspective at the end of the Savior War. He's fully capable of throwing down and getting dirty when he has to, but he also grew into a good and righteous leader.

Daryl was more of a brother to Rick than Shane ever was. Daryl took care of Ricks kids because Rick wasn’t there to, Shane tried to steal them. You see at this point Rick was showing Shane that he still trusted him by giving him authority basically telling him he was still part of the group even if they had a falling out. Shane was right by killing Randal but Rick and the others wanted to hold on to their humanity they just couldn’t do that anymore.
@Tyler_W
8 ай бұрын
No, he wasn't right. Sure, killing the prisoner was quick and effective as far as keeping everyone safe goes, but that wasn't the only effective way of accomplishing that. The problem is that Shane was taking the easy way out, and he was willing to do something unethical to do it. It's always better to go the extra mile to do the right thing, especially when you can still accomplish the same goal of protecting the community in doing so. Driving the kid out an hour or two in the opposite direction of the farm and where his group came from is all they needed to do. He didn't know where the farm was, and going that far out would've been too far away to try to come back on foot, not to mention it's a strong likelihood that he wouldn't have survived very long on his own anyway. It would have posed very little to no risk to the group to give him a chance out on the road somewhere completely out of the way if they went out far enough and were smart about covering their tracks, which every indication suggests that they were. The only reason he tried to go back to his group is because Shane tricked him into thinking he wanted to go back with him and because he thought he had Shane to offer as a peace offering/key to re-entry. Going back to his group was only an option because Shane made it a self-fulfilling prophecy. The kid's only options on the road were to try to retrace his steps and probably get killed by walkers, maybe even get killed by his own group, and definitely get killed by Rick's group if they found him again, or keep moving forward, probably still get killed by zombies, and see where his luck could take him. He was already halfway crippled, so his chances weren't great already, but he knew for a fact that he would find nothing but trouble going back. Going further out was the only option that would've presented even a chance at survival wbich wasn't very likely anyway.

Personally, I don't think any of the future seasons should've been as long as they got. The show would have remained consistent if they kept the story tight and no longer than season 2. I don't think any more than 3 seasons warranted having 16-24 episodes. Shorter seasons also would've given the actors more time with their friends and family, and we wouldn't have lost main characters later in the show.

One line from this season that goes way too unnoticed, yet was the foundation for Rick and Daryl’s relationship in the future was in this episode. Right after this, Rick is discussing with Daryl where to let Randall loose while they look at a map. Rick looks to Daryl for approval asking, “You sure you want to do this?” To which Daryl responds, “I don’t see you and me tradin’ haymakers on the side of the road. Nobody’d win that fight.” The “Nobody’d win that fight” line just brings to light Daryl’s true character and how night and day him and Shane are. In this moment, Daryl - the guy that Rick despised, and vice versa the previous season - has just shown more loyalty and brotherhood to him than his own “best friend” has since they’ve reunited. Truly one of the most underrated scenes of the whole series.

The problem is Rick took too long to turn into a killer & Shane was too quick to kill. I think had Shane lived on he would’ve been brutal and lost his mind maybe became a different version of the governor (besides all the sadistic shit the governor did) and Ricks humanity prevented him from doing what needed to be done earlier hence the loss of life they took because they couldn’t be the killers they needed to be early on.

I do think that's a possibility but the main reason Shane was the way he was was because he was so hellbent on keeping Lori and Carl safe so after Lori died he MAY have calmed down but I do think he would have probably gone down the route of the governer because you saw no matter how "far gone" Rick was he still had his humanity whereas Shane didn't care about anyone else other than Lori and Carl

@Smellyherb_

@Tyler_W

A new brotherhood was forged in the ashes of a dying one

Personally, I don't think any of the future seasons should've been as long as they got. The show would have remained consistent if they kept the story tight and no longer than season 2. I don't think any more than 3 seasons warranted having 16-24 episodes. Shorter seasons also would've given the actors more time with their friends and family, and we wouldn't have lost main characters later in the show.

Tbh, I love every bit of the show and I’ve been watching since the first episode’s release. Even season 7 I like but tbf it is my favorite show
One line from this season that goes way too unnoticed, yet was the foundation for Rick and Daryl’s relationship in the future was in this episode.

Personally, I think seasons 1-6 are peak television. Seasons 7 and 8 were easily the weakest, but the problem was the pacing, not the characters or the story. Personally, although they were still probably too long, seasons 9-11 got so much better again. Not many shows get the opportunity to get good again or even have the ability to pull it off even when they do.
"Thank you, you got it" that was COLD as hell
"Shane will assign shifts while me and Daryl take Randall off-site and cut him loose" Shane: I thought what we had was SPECIAL😭😭
