Will all due respect, Mr. Astley, the rickroll only works because of that voice, that hair, that effortless sway, that trench-coat and that catchy tune. And because you embraced it, laughed with us, and you were completely authentic and genuinely talented, you’re now a multi-generation icon and a legend. We literally wouldn’t get this from any other guy.

Just to set the record straight: He may be most well-known for Never Gonna Give You Up, but in the UK alone he has had eight Top 10 Singles and five Top 10 Albums. When he took a hiatus from the music industry in 1993, he had sold approximately 40 million albums worldwide. He returned to music in 2001 and has released albums certified Platinum and Gold in the UK.

Rick's deep soulful voice made him sound the opposite of what he was (a pasty red haired boy). When everyone saw him for the first time after hearing his voice on the radio they were like "That is the guy singing that song? " That is the original Rick Roll. Since then its being convinced you're seeing or hearing one thing and then finding out its very different than what you thought is the epitome of a rick roll. That video has become synonymous with having expectations shattered (good or bad).

Saw Rick when he supported Take That in concert in Cardiff in June 2019. No word of a lie, we thought he was brilliant. Fantastic singer and voice. And did not realise how many great songs he had released and not just “that one”. Nice guy.

I remember my first rick roll, it was on facebook or something and it was a post of someone telling their sad story. And ... ONLY at the end are you told you’ve been rick rolled and how. EVERY word that started the next line was the lyrics so afterwards you see the lyrics of the song going down the post. It was too good to be mad at.

Rick Astley is such a cool guy and a good sport about the whole Rick Rolling thing. My two favorites: About 10 years ago I'm watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade when this one float stops and out pops Rock Astley singing Never Gonna! He, personally, Rick Rolled the Macy's parade! Back in 2017 the Foo Fighters were playing at a fest or something in Japan and Rick Astley was at the same fest (or playing nearby or something). Dave Grohl had been talking about how Never Gonna and Smells Like Teen Spirit have a similar chord progression. Grohl finds out Astley is there and asks him to come perform with them onstage. Here is that live mashup: m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZXt5kqOic5DTmZs.html

The way she explains Rickrolling isn't how it happened usually. You'd click on a link and instead of what you expected, it would be the youtube video of the official "Never Gonna Give You Up" song. Never once did I experience all the pop ups that wouldn't stop unless I restarted my computer. But I still love that song and video and love getting rickrolled lol.

I think now that Emma explained that I get the virus my mom got on her phone a ton of years ago. I don't know what link she may have clicked but her screensaver was Rick's face. And you could change it but as soon as you restarted the phone it would be Rick's face again. She ended up hating him and just giving up and letting him be her screensaver LOL

I remember when Rick Rolling began. It was quite literally the first thing KZread was ever really used for. Some of them were funny. It is something kids today have no clue about. I did get Rick Rolled like last year or something cause I was on a strange science binge and there was a video saying that there was an inexplicable noise being emitted from Mars, I think it was, and I was like oh I'm hooked. And it was very faint and you realize....boom you've been Rick Rolled. It honestly made my day cause it took me back to when I was a teenager.

I once did what I thought was the ultimate Rick-Roll - gave my sister the LP for her birthday!
