Hey Just Jammin! They were the best and worst together. The best because the music speaks for itself. The worst because they had a volatile relationship. His solo career was successful, and hers was also successful, but when they sung together, their music and chemistry on stage was combustible. If you want to hear Rick sing, Rick and Smokey Robinson had a song together "Ebony Eyes" I know you will absolutely enjoy. Teena has had so many hits in her solo career. I love Portuguese Love, Oh La La La...the list is too long. Enjoy your journey into Rick and Teena's universe....together and individually. Peace...Be Safe!!!

Rick James was a funkster but he definately could belt out the slow jams also....he was a versatile singer as was Teena Marie....she had equal success with her uptempo funk music as she did her slow jams....infact she had more success and hits with the uptempo music...btw....Rick James introduced her to the world with their uptempo duet and her debut hit "I'm A Sucker For Your Love"....Motown intentionally released her debut album without her photo for shock value for when folks would find out she was white....lollllll....and were people shocked...she came out the same time as Madonna and white radio wanted her to be pop....she refused and white radio banned her and black radio and public embraced her....till this day we love her and she is considered the baddest white girl to do r&b

When this came out I was a little younger than you. And guess what WE didn’t know Rick had that in him as well. But WE at that age could relate. Well, what can you say about Teena that hasn’t been said. Truly a Classic....young generation don’t let your heritage die. This music goes back way beyond you and me. Each generation took it a little further and improved on it. But the last decade or two...has failed. Reach back and learn from those who drew up an blue print for you to follow. I am glad to see the younger generation doing just that......Enjoy...what we had the pleasure of seeing the artists in their PRIME. We didn’t know it then...but WE were truly Blessed. At least WE had the appreciation from our parents who played this type of music as a kid to recognize gifted artists at a early stage in our lives. Keep up the good work young man.....I can tell that you have an good ear for good music and you have taught me to even listen closers to the music and not just the words and voices. That way I learned to be all around and the music is that much more enjoyable to me. And for this.....I thank you. Signed.....An Elder from the last generation....

One point as far as their common ground is that they’re both musicians who were into bringin the funk, based in soul r&b. Rick also had a rock edge to his personality, which played out musically sometimes. I remember local punk bands in the 80’s covering Super Freak, playin it faster than the original. Of course tha one got remix wit MC Hammer Can’t Touch This. There was also some supposed rivalry between Rick James & Prince. Teena Marie was clearly on her own ‘island’ though. I remember hearing her in an interview saying, she’s trying to see what she could do to cross in to the white audience market. 😂 I’m sure there was plenty in Europe, but the American audience was probably a little more polarized back then. When the video era hit a few years later, Rick really spoke out about MTV needing to present to have black artists videos, naming himself & Michael Jackson as prime examples white audience new & were ready to see. This song was just before all that jumped off though. One thing I loved about this was the vibe solo by legendary Roy Ayers at the end & fade. Over the years we’ve met, as I play the same instrument. Roy has also been sampled & remixed by rap & hip hop artists. Everybody Loves the Sunshine, I think is sampled on a Mary J. Bilge joint. His biggest hit was Running Away, which came at tail end of disco the era.

Fire and Desire is FIRE no doubt, but this one will take your dome smooth off! Rachelle Ferrell & Will Downing - Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This. The video of them singing has bad sound (in my opinion) check the one with the album cover on it. You'll never be the same. keep up the great work

React to Teena Marie "Behind the Grove". Also type in "Soul Train" where she performs this song. React to "LoverGirl" by Teena. Thank you.
