Rick Astley is a powerful angelic being. He was banished from the celestial court by the plotting of a corrupted angel. Eventually the celestial council realized their mistake and brought him back from exile in the far cosmos. But by then he had already gone mad from loneliness. Because of his madness, when he encounters any being he refuses to give it up. If Rick chooses to mark you, he will always be able to find you again, no matter how far you run or where you hide. Rick Astley is unable to hurt people, or is unwilling to. Instead, he uses powerful magic to charm or trap you, keeping those important to him close at all costs. He also has the ability to send out a rolling wave of energy. Those hit by the wave are momentarily stunned, but otherwise unharmed. However, the wave causes runes to appear at random on surfaces it touches. Anyone who reads a rune can instantly hear Rick’s otherworldly music. They instantly take psychic damage, and are affected by the “embarrassed” condition.

Getting this side quest is definitely a gamble because as Sebastian said, it will do everything it can to protect you but it might accidentally hurt you. I also found a secret Item in the Lord of the Cosmos dlc and you can give it to Rick and it will raise his power stat by 78, making him the creature in the game with the most possible power. There is also another side quest for those who think it was a mistake to release him where you travel to Atlantis’ Prison and use the trap on the fourth floor, killing him instantly.

You enter this boss fight when you attack a seemingly normal NPC near the beginning of the game that is actually the final boss (you don't know this unless you have prior knowledge of the game), only to phase through them and be teleported to The Gauntlet Of The Internet, a boss rush of sorts starring all the different kinds of rick roll like memes (gnomed, jebaited, stickbugged, etc.), in order of weakest to strongest in power (power decided by how long the meme was relevant), obviously ending with the true final boss of the game, Rick Astley himself. If you somehow manage to defeat him, you will be teleported back into the normal world, but something isn't quite right. You notice that everyone around seems to be scared or disgusted by you, except for the final boss NPC. Naturally, you go to talk to them, and before you even speak, they pull out a mirror and show it to you. He says, "He's never gonna you up. The process has already started, it's too late for you now." And when you look in the mirror, you realise you aren't you anymore, Rick Astley has infected you, you are turning into Rick Astley, at which point the NPC says, "To be honest, I didn't expect you to come back, but now that you have, you've unleashed a huge threat upon the entire world, and maybe even more. You have to die, whether it be by your hands or someone elses." This leads to a choice between killing yourself, or fighting him off, killing yourself leading to a sort of neutral ending, as the normal final boss is still there to do whatever he plans to do, but fighting him off and killing him leads to a choice between fighting the infection or giving in to it. Fighting the infection allows you to play the rest of the game in a hard mode of sorts where you have a time limit, and whenever you're hurt, that time limit is decreased even more, and if the time limit or your hp reach 0, a cutscene plays where you rise into the air, holy and unholy light shines upon you, and your soul is sucked out of your, or should I say, Rick's body, and is sent back into The Gauntlet Of The Internet, with you having to fight through the bosses again (still weakened from the fight, and with you weakened too since you're only a soul) to reach what used to be Rick Astley's body, only for your soul to be sucked into it and for you to now be trapped in The Gauntlet Of The Internet as Rick Astley, and for Rick Astley to be out in the real world, conquering it with his immense power. If you did manage to get to the end of the game, then either the second worst or the best ending would play depending on your completion rate of the game. 100% or more leads to the best ending, with Rick Astley attempting to fuse his soul with yours, and succeeding. However, since you've grown so powerful, your soul is the soul that manages to take control, banishing Rick Astley to nothingness forever, then leading into the normal 100% ending. With any less than 100% completion, Rick Astley will fuse your souls together, with him taking control over the body, and since he has no competition and the throne right in front of him, he ends up ruling the world and destroying anything that opposes him. If you were to give in to the infection, a cutscene would play where you and Rick Astley's souls fuse into one, then leading to a new section of the game where you play as Rick Astley's Semiperfect form, destroying everyone and everything in the normal world, absorbing everyone's souls along the way, and once this is achieved, he will finally attain his final, perfect form, and ascend from this world to The Gauntlet Of The Internet so he can gather his oppositions souls, then going on to conquer and destroy everything that has ever and will ever exist (in a cutscene of course), ending with him eventually realizing that, with nothing else here, there's no point in anything, and so he attempts to ascend one more time, phasing out of this existence and onto the next. How long is this comment!? Oh dear.

On the highest difficulty, he actually has a secret move that is only used 1% of the time. Together Forever - Occurs instead of Say Goodbye. Rick Astley and one random random party member heals back to full, essentially making you fight him again. This can occur several times in a single fight, so stock up on items.

Despite this being a few months old, allow me to contribute to this beautiful comment section. You hum the song that's been whispered in your mind since birth, a soft lullaby when you were young and happy, and a roaring anthem as you matured and angered. While taking a look around, you notice how nice the melody sounded in the large, echoey, and most notably lliminal space you found yourself in. Honestly you didnt know where you were anymore. After all the adventures you've been on, the skills you've learned, and the enemies you've faced, you hardly cared about something as simple as scenery. Instead you progressed from a half hearted hum to a more intricate performance, only just starting to truly sing as the wind is knocked out of you, and the space goes black. You think of the guardian who has helped you through your journey, promises of loyalty always playing through your head, almost as often as his song itself. You reach out to him only to find nothing. No connection, no response, no one there. A cold wave of loneliness and fear runs through you as you realize hes deserted you. "We've known each other for so long..." You hear a far off voice state. "Inside we both know what's been going on, but we know the game, and we're gonna play it." You stay in breathless silence, waiting for its next line and you begin to put the peices together. "Have you figured it out yet? I can only leave you so many hints after all. Don't tell me you're too blind to see." "...no, no... I understand who you are-" you move to kneel instead "-but I dont understand why I'm here." The room fills with a staticky silence as everything fades from black to a soft blue as a figure appears in front of you. He has a soft smile on his face as he walks slightly closer. "Its simple really" Then you choke on seemingly nothing as the entity's who's been training you from the beginning begins to anger. "You gave me up." Clawing at your throat, you squeak out what you can. "I only did it to- to save them." "YOU DID IT AT THE COST OF YOUR SAFTEY. Did you think my promises were ment to be one sided? I promised I would never leave you, never say good bye, and you- you left me. Even if you came back, for those few days, I was alone." You hear the music begin to play. "I'm going to show you how dangerous the world can be when people lie." He flickers away, appearing behind you with nothing more then a microphone. "This is for your own good after all, you know the rules and so do I. If you could give a full commitment to me, this wouldn't need to happen, you would be safe under my watch." You're released from any of his influence and get into a weak fighting stance as you try to recover. "I wont let you endanger yourself anymore. I've gotta make you understand."

For his ultimate attack,which is his final attack and hope to defeat is... he says: You know the rules and so do I....... Then he whips out a gun then loads it,then he says: SAY GOODBYE Then shoots,he only has one shot and will only be shot when his HP reaches the lowest point before this Cutscene which is 1 HP. He cannot be damaged anymore unless you trigger the Cutscene by rushing him,he wouldn't do any damage in this phase. He then falls onto the ground and does the "SAY GOODBYE" move,he only has one shot which will insta kill you. Note that his bullet Is very accurate,it will home into you until it's only 5 centimeters from hitting you then it stops locking onto you and then Is the time you have to dodge it. After that Rick is angered and he breaks your weapon and you have to challenge him to a fist-fight,he is VERY buffed in this phase so he can one-shot you and Dodge your moves a lot. And if you managed to hit him in his final phase you win the game,then it shows a Cutscene of him falling to the ground,then his Glow in his eyes that became blue when he used the "SAY GOODBYE" move which is the reason he was buffed,after using this move you're supremely buffed. And his Orange glow will return and become dim,with some groans following it. You have two options here..... You can heal and save him or you can end him and free everyone If you end him,is the good ending where everyone is free and happy again. Saving him results in you Healing him with all your items,then he stands up and his glow is gone.. he then immediately kills you and takes away your RESPAWNING powers and uses them for himself, therefore,resulting in the bad ending and removing your "Continue" option,you have to start a new game to play again ???: During this choice you are given the ability to roam around freely with the choice on your screen, you also can exit his lair which results in the secret ending and a Secret DLC

just about any attack he does can be switched for another at the last moment, the tell for this is when "Tell a lie, and hurt you," echoes in the arena. It can be hard to hear over the other chants, but it is helpful to know,

One of his attacks are where he picks you up and then let’s you down (slams you into the ground)

You enter a building, it looks fresh like it’s been built recently.. there were arcs made of grey bricks that led to some type of bar. You could see a man on the stage with a microphone. Could it be? The legendary Rick Roller? But somethings wrong... his eyes glow in a red fiery colour. Is he corrupted? What... The speakers in the bar starts playing the classic meme that everybody knows until the music sort of turns darker... You don’t know what’s happening, but the legendary man speaks up: “You know the rules..” Everything started breaking, you can see the void beneath your very own feet. The music floats into a Bizarre Battle Music. “*And So do i.*” The Mircophone suddenly becomes a giant sword but still keeping the musical feel to it. You were not expecting this... This corrupted feeling... It’s not right. We gotta do something.. *The Battle music cues in, and so the battle begins.*

"Heh heh heh. You really thought I would give you up? I already told you, I will never let you down. You tried to run around and desert me. I know I said I would never hurt you. But I told a lie. Now, I'm gonna make you cry. You know the rules... *Unsheathes Black Stygian Sword.* ...and so do I. Now, say goodbye!" *Boss theme starts playing*

I just imagine the battlefield as being this wide, mostly black and white dreamscape location that looks very reminiscent of the set here. He's a likable villain, one you can relate to. He can't stop what he has to do.

Ah yes, the Never Gonna Give Up DLC for Tuba Kingdom, the smallest DLC of all as it only adds 1 boss and 10 new creatures along with 1 kingdom but it is so well done that even fans today are still wishing it had more than what it had. Just goes to show that you don't need a lot of new features when it comes DLC as long as you do it right, I mean I don't hate the Tuba Chronicles DLC it is the largest DLC in the game and boy it is the greatest DLC of all time for Tuba Kingdom but the Never Gonna Give Up DLC shows that size doesn't matter, as long as you use it right!

I can’t believe Rick Astley beat my level 61 gengar. Toughest evil team leader we’ve seen. Gen 14 was really something. After countless battles with his grunts and admins, the man had finally showed his face. I was getting curious as to why they were called “Team Rickroll.” But now I understand. The battle was intense.But alas, he was victorious. I was doing a nuzlocke for Arceus sake! But overall, Pokémon Rick & Roll were probably some of the best titles since gen 5.

When the fight tutorial comes up, all it says is "you know the rules and so do I"

One of the hardest bosses because of his surprise attacks and since he never gives up there's no pacifist ending.

Because the actual lyrics talk about not giving you and not hurting you, I imagine the story behind the fight would be that he's try to keep you from proceeding, as to avoid a much more gruesome fate. Only for him to give up in the end, realizing that no matter what he does to stop you from going on this self-sacrificing journey, you will continue on for what's best for your people. He will stop fighting, fall to the ground in defeat, and gives you this warning: "Even through all my efforts, you still want to leave. Heh, you always were stubborn. I can tell you're willing to die for our people, and that is something I cannot be mad at. I will respect your wishes old friend, but keep this in mind. There are no rick rolls out there. I cannot help you outside of these walls. *sniff* but, I guess we've learned something today, haven't we? .............. No matter what happens in our lives, no matter what we do, we have to say goodbye at some point... but, from one friend to another, can you do me a favor? .............. Please..... don't come back....." Edit: I got emotional writing this btw.

It good because you can almost hear the "never gonna give you up" in different music notes . This guy took Rick rolling in to a new level!! I hope he gets at least 100k in near-future.

This isnt the final boss, this is when the final boss has 60k hp, you barely beat him, then you ask your friend about that optional superboss who has 2 trillion hp. Thats the rick astley boss

What I love about this boss is how many times you fight him and he comes at you when you least expect it to.
