Its an alternate dimension. The show usually follows rick and morty from earth c137 bit this episode and season 2 epiaode 2 are about a different timeline. On the planet morty shot the cloud alien on you can see rick loading the car with green and pink rocks. Rick drops one of them in the garbage at the start of this episode and the rocks peobably brought rhe parasites in.

2 theories: 1) He was always there, we only never saw him on screen. 2) This is an alternate reality, I am not even sure if other episodes sometimes are a different Rick and Morty from another dimension. So in this one, Mr. Poopy butthole may have been there forever.

Y'all: "We can't wait to meet these new characters!" Me: "Well, a little yes, but a whole lot of no."

This is probably the most loved episode of Rick and Morty ever. I love your guys' reactions can't wait for my second favorite episode.

They are very enjoyable to watch because of their attitude (cheerful, light-hearted, eager to enjoy new stuff) which is very contagious, because they are friends and it's nice to see people having fun with friends, and also because sometimes they are funny. It's like watching a show you love with a group of friends who are watching it for the first time.

EmberFlower so the KZread algorithm for once helped the smaller channels rather than just making bigger channels even bigger? How is that a bad thing?

Actually, there are a ton of amazing voice actors in this episode! Tara Strong plays Tinkles, which makes sense sense she's usually hired to play parodies of her My Little Pony character, Twilight Sparkle. And Keith Richards, the voice of Goliath from Gargoyles and the villain of The Princess and the Frog, Dr. Facilier, does Reverse Giraffe, retaining his cleverness, by turning the family against Rick.

This was supposed to be Dan Harmon recreating what he did with Community's "Paradigms of Human Memory" where its a clip show episode of clips we've never seen.

Beth shoots Mr. Poopybutthole because she doesn't have any bad memories of him. The entire family are bad people and someone actually good seems fake to them. This episode is the family realizing they all just suck as people.

NOooo i have a big family for dozen of years and they all have bad memories with me. And for all people that have been in long/deep relationship with me, there's always be some bad memories, it's just for the most of time we need to accept it and forgive each oether, there's no such thign as perfect relationship. And doesnt have it doesnt mean you are a bad person

Yes. The voice of the giraffe was Keith David, like you said he was on the last season of Community. There more side characters from the show that were guest on the Rick and morty

The opening of this episode is a great introduction to this show if you want to get someone to watch it. I showed it to my sister and got her hooked on the show immediately.

Total Recall is an awesome sci-fi action movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as he plays a construction worker who finds out that he's a government agent , having had his memory erased to uncover an artifact that can save Mars.

This episode is also a satire of sitcoms introducing characters from one season to the next without explanation. Usually, the character was over the top and had a stupid catch phrase.

The actual story very much implies he was not a government agent but someone losing his mind in a virtual machine. Blue skies on Mars gives that away

My theory is Mr. Poopybutthole is actually part of the family from the very beginning. But because of this incident, he requested to remove any content and interaction of himself to their memories. To make it easier for Rick's family to move on and to also made it easier for Mr. Poopybutthole to recover both physically and mentally by not having any interaction at all to them.

Keith David's voice turns me to stone.

We could have just been following a different Rick in some other reality that was friends with Mr Poopybutthole all along.

Poopy Butthole is from a species that is really good at hiding in plain sight and is adapted to join other teams. Good examples are the interdimensional cable episodes. A-Foddlers have a driver that is of his species and "Mr. Stealy" is like the black sheep of the species, using his stealth lvl 100 for evil.

I would speak on character dev but no spoilers. you can still have it, (ignoring spoilers ) but you'd have to keep up with which rick and morty is which

The theory is that we are not always watching the same Rick and Morty.

There's like 3-4 episodes (from the first 3 seasons) that I can say are my favorite, but this is a dark horse favorite. It is whacky with a dark end.

Still in my top 3 episodes. So many awesome characters.

Rick and Morty is 90% inside jokes on the state of humanity/society. The actual storyline and events are not as important as what the show is trying to say about life. It makes for a thoughtful conversation to explore what the show was saying between the lines rather than the events in the episode.

Mr. Poopy Butthole was not the imposter

So... I don’t really speak English but I want to explain a theory to you guys, I think that this episode and the 2x02 took place on another time line cause if you take a look at the 2x02 episode at the end Rick put a tons of green rocks on his ship and in the 2x04 episode in the beginning Rick is throwing away some green rocks in the trash can. That is another timeline because in the 2x02 episode when Rick and morty we’re picking up jerry we can see how rick and morty form another dimension approach them and ask for the jerry with “X” number (I cant remember what it was) and it was the number the lady gave to our Rick and morty (C-137) at the beginning of the episode, so we can figure out that the whole episode we watch rick and morty from another dimension in an adventure. Same in the 2x04 episode, we can see what happens after the 2x02 episode, when rick throw away the green rocks. That’s why we can see Mr puppybutthole on the whole intro, because in that timeline he exists. I hope you guys can understand me, sorry for my bad English
