The first Richie Rich is a big movie for me because one of my middle/high school ELA teachers showed it to us to talk about product placement and “subliminal” advertising. She had us make a list of every brand we noticed in it. I think she really just wanted to kill two days with movie days, which I truly understand down to my bones as a teacher now. It wasn’t a particularly inspirational lesson or anything but those fun moments are the ones that stick with me more than any more structured thing, and I do keep that in mind when I teach.

There’s really going to be no limit to the mileage you’ll get from the “Great Simpsons joke, Phelan” clip!

Fun Cast Facts: -Reggie's mother is Trump's at-the-time wife, Marla Maples (fitting since Reggie is a fascist) -Richie's redhead friend was a bully in Little Rascals -Richard Riehle's assistant cops includes Major Asshole from Spaceballs -the orphanage is run by the nun from The Blues Brothers

The kid who plays Reggie was in an episode of 7th Heaven where he threatens to shoot Simon. He ends up shooting Stephen Collins. Also if you watch Kevin Smith films, he is the kid buying drugs from Jay & SB in the first Jay and Silent Bob film. Then he buys drugs in Clerks 2. In J&SB Reboot he is a guy running a dispensary at the convention. In Clerks 3 he is one of the people auditioning. He says a Jay line then comments he sounds like the guy he used to buy pot from.

The kid does have a name, Jake Richardson. I first knew his work as he brought Peter Hatcher to life based on the Judy Blume Fudge books 3 years before Richie Rich Christmas Wish. He had the best looks of disgust, especially when Shelia Tubman was around. You understand why he was in a "really bad mood."

I remember seeing this movie on the Disney Channel sometime in the early 2000s. I think my main reaction to it was, "Um... okay?"

Having the cop be a fascist stormtrooper in the alternate universe seems like some form of clever commentary I guess, but they likely didn't think that far.

You guys are on a roll. You lauded two of me and my wife’s favorite movies of all time, finally tackled the 2 Garfield movies and now reviewing one of our favorite crap movies that we love to watch. Also Coffin n’ Nails forever mate!

The 90s was full of cartoon-to-live-action adaptations. I think the trend may have started with The FLINSTONES Movie and then carried on with Casper, George of the Jungle, Dudley Doright, Inspector Gadget and finally Scooby Doo.

lmao, I think we are all shocked about Richard Moll's passing to focus on Richie Rich antics Actually the Richie Rich comics were INSANELY Popular during the 70s. Aside from the movie, even the the animated series was 15 years too late. I wouldn't go to say Richie Rich comics would sell well, just they published so many of them you probably could make a well insulated house out of them.

The fact that Irona has a god to evil switch is a bad idea.

I thought it was funny how Reggie always wants burgers, candy or ice cream as though this sequel wanted to show the dangers of eating junk food. However, the first film showed Richie Rich had his own McDonald's and drinking milkshakes while giving healthy food to Dollar as though the junk food is so awesome for kids. There's a deleted scene that was only shown on the tv airing of this movie where Reggie admits controlling Richie's sled and crashing it. Reggie apologized and Richie forgave Reggie. Richie gave Reggie and Reggie's parents presents. Supposedly, test audiences hated this ending where they wanted Reggie getting his comeuppance.

Everytime I watch one of these I'm reminded just how dang funny yall are

Caught the Richie Rich Christmas Wish movie on YTV back in 2004 or something. It was kinda weird and cartoony but I guess that was to be expected from a Saban produced Fox Family flick based on some notable property. It is pretty dumb, but I'd take it over watching all 26 episodes of Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation...

I'm surprised at how many names I recognized in this film's cast.

Goofy Gestapo was my least favorite Mickey Mouse Club spinoff.

I know I saw the first Richie Rich, but it came out when I was 4 and I don't remember it at all beyond the dog with the dollar signs painted on, but I'm having a sense of deja vu for this one, so I think I may have rented this one from Blockbuster at some point too...

I thought Sabannukah came before Sabanmas, but I haven't been keeping up on my holidays.

Nice job with the Batman Returns joke in the ending stinger.

Dollar is actually from the original comics, so he's canon for the Harvey-verse.

Its cute to see their still together after all these years. Are they married yet?

23:03 - alternatively, maybe in the original timeline, Richie is the reason those orphans _are_ orphans, and with no Richie in the new timeline, they never got orphaned. 😜

you forgot to mention the alternate ending in the first version after Richie wished himself back at the end, he reunites with his family and friends and they sing Merry Christmas at the end; however, Reggie got away with it at the end. in the alternate ending/TV ending, Reggie is caught red-handed by his parents with his actions against Richie, and Reggie's parents make him apologize for all the trouble he caused to Richie, admitting that he was the one who took control of the sleigh and ruined the event. Richie is upset for a moment because he realizes that it wasn't his fault and he made that wish for nothing.

I read the reason why the ending change because Reggie just apologize and Richie easily forgive him. Reggie wasn't punish for what he did.

So, Cadbury is the butler of the richest people in the world, and he can't afford to have that tattoo removed? Also, there is precedent in the Richie Rich comics for fantastic super-science devices. I remember one where a scientist developed a shrinking ray. He was then killed by foreign agents (seriously!) who wanted the secret of the ray, and who then pursued Richie and his dad in a car chase, in which Mr. Rich (who was normally sort of an amiable dunce) pulls a pistol out of his jacket and starts blasting away at them! I swear, I am NOT making this up!

I am convinced that all movies of this quality have to be a tax dodge of some kind. Who would want to watch this? Edit: I mean other than fans of bad movies, of course. I legitimately want to know how any money is ever made from this type of film.

I had no idea this even existed, and am basically just here to say that I care far less for Richie Rich doing It's a Wonderful Life as I am gonna point and hoot that Riku Kingdom Hearts was in a movie... man what DOES he do these days besides voice act? I feel like I should have a better idea about that than I actually do.
