Richie, Bilateral AK Amputee - Walking Again!

Ғылым және технология

Anyone who has visited POA in the past 10 years knows Richie. He lost his legs and fingers when he was just one year old while playing with his brother and accidentally climbing into a tub filled with bleach/water his mom was using to soak laundry. Because of the amount of scar tissue and short length of his right leg (missing almost to hip) Richie was never able to be fit with prosthetic limbs that were comfortable and functional. He lived most of his life in a wheelchair or skateboarding his way around town. He never lost his desire to walk, though, and after he was introduced to Stan Patterson, owner of POA, who believed Richie could be fit with prosthetic legs, Richie moved from New York to Orlando. With a lot of hard work he learned to walk, and soon after began a job at Disney World, where he still works. Unfortunately, over the past few years the damaged tissue on Richie's longer residual limb broke down, so he once again returned to his wheelchair. Last year, he underwent a bone/tissue revision, which was more extensive that originally planned. But we are excited to announce that 2020 is the year Richie will be walking on two feet again! He can't wait - and neither can we! #poaorlando #family #walkingtall #Friday #strong #determined #discoveryourabilities #teamRichie #Disneyworld
