Richardson Under Center for Colts | NFL Preseason Game Tape Breakdown by Kurt Warner

Спорт

He had a bit of an up and down start as we all expected. We heard some really good things out of camp, but we saw some deficiencies technically coming out of Florida and those things showed up in the first preseason game.
Back here on Studyball and earlier in the week, we took a look at the top two quarterbacks taken in the draft: Bryce Young, CJ Stroud. Today, let’s get into the number three quarterback taken by the Indianapolis Colts, Anthony Richardson. You see the talent and ability but you have to be able to tighten up some of the technical stuff to make the throws that he is supposed to make. But still some really good things to build off of.
Saw some really good things there. One of the things I liked was how defined he was when he knew when he wanted to make a throw. Got his feet set and got the ball out of his hands. Technique was an issue once again. That’s something he has to continue to work on and improve on because we can’t miss some of those throws he missed in this game. Have to be more accurate with his feet because that is what’s going to cause the accuracy with the ball. But I liked the decision making, thought process, the way he worked through the things we saw on tape. Now let's get the feet and technique connected to it and we have a chance to have a good year! #anthonyrichardson #indianapoliscolts #nfl

Go Colts. AR5 looked pretty good in his first game. He looked confident and in control. Long ball looks good. Needs some work over the middle on short routes. His legs are powerful and fast. Able to brake a tackle and finish the run with power. Very excited about this season!!

Needs to work on his feet. He's all over the place and it results in the ball going high or low. Relying too much on his arm and not technique.

It's amazing how many of these experts have broken down the interception that he threw in the preseason game and have got it completely wrong... Every single member of the colts, including the coaching staff, the coordinators. Have all pointed out. What actually happened... It's just interesting to see people say Things as if they are fact when. The truth is already out there

OK, coach. Tell us what happened? I can't wait to hear this. The amazing thing is that coaches and players NEVER tell the press what really happens and throw a guy under the bus. The fact that they had to come to his defense tells all.

I think his inaccuracy and mechanics are real concerns, but it looks like he makes good decisions for a rookie QB which I imagine is harder to teach at the NFL level than technique. I think he looked pretty good for his first game and definitely showed he has has a high ceiling.

During your play at ~12:20, when he throws, his feet are planted for the duration of his set and throw. I feel he's used to moving so quickly that he's not planting for a second or two; he looks to be planting for the exact millisecond he's winding up. Look at your own video

He’s more NFL ready than what a lot of people give him credit for. His accuracy issues is the big problem and its really all footwork related, which is a good thing because that means it’s very fixable. It will take a year maybe even 2 to get that really dialed in so it’s consistent IN GAME. But I’m still optimistic he can go out there in his rookie year and do some good things.

This guy is a PROJECT. He had only 13 college starts. He is definitely NOT ready for the NFL. He needs time to acclimate to the pros before being sent to the wolves. He may implode by week 6, if he is asked to start game 1. It will be a melt down of his confidence. Not smart by ownership to force a person not prepared to go into action.

Panic, bad feet, and falling backwards while throwing are not things that are easily fixed. He only had 13 college starts. That lack of experience will give him many bridges to cross. Not many, of any, with so few starts in college have flourished in the pros. He could have benefited from sitting a bit and getting used to the Pro game first.

@@jamesnguyen7069 It won't take long. He will implode by game 6, or the product will be so ugly that fans will demand he be pulled. Then his confidence may be irreparably damaged. Peyton had 4 years of starts in college. This guy had 1. There is a long list of QB's that have failed because of too little experience. There is surely something to be said for learning on the job. However, what we don't know is if he can mentally take the beating. The kid himself said he wanted to learn, and was surprised that he was chosen to be the starter. This is where bad ownership takes a bad pick and then compounds it by throwing a "project" QB to the wolves. History tells us that if you've only had 1 year as a college starter, you will have less than 10% chance to succeed. It's like telling a 10 year old to drive your car on the highway and not expect an accident to happen.

May not be that bad honestly. Colts will run a run heavy offense with deep shots off playaction pass.dump offs to the running backs will be his friend as well along with using his legs til he develops more as a passer.
