    EXCEPT the system also uses “comedy,” mostly of the very unfunny flavoring, to brainwash the masses. This is more true now than ever. But yes, they lie on the news and put truth in movies. That kind of thing.

    NMP99 How is it scary? Maybe you meant uncanny? Richard Pryor spoke about life. The fact that things haven’t changed for the black experience is shameful. Now that is what’s scary. You can’t even compare the white comedian or his comedy to Pryor’s as they had completely different life experiences. Plus maybe it’s just my preference but George Carlin wasn’t that funny. Maybe it’s simply that I relate to Pryor on a cultural level and Carlin, not at all.

    @@rahulonwater I have various experience in film. I'll tell you a quick story of how I *first* learned about it, in the same way you're saying "wow, I never thought of that." It's that my dad was a big fan of the old TV show "Leave it to Beaver." He was watching some retrospective in the late 80s or something and they were talking about those "glory days" of TV and the topic of when and why they decided to end the show. One reason was the show was fundamentally about the boys being YOUNG ... and they were grown up. The other was that color TV was taking over and filming in color required so much more lighting that the production didn't want to spend the money. This was actually true for A LOT of shows around that time, the extra lighting that was required to film in color was just not part of their budget and the Fat Cats that paid for things balked at the price to update an OLD show. They'd spend the money on a NEW show, but the old shows were basically written off due to a technology shift. When I first learned all of this, I also said "wow... I never thought of that." I just assumed everyone thought color was OBVIOUSLY better, so they all switched. A lot of people lost their jobs because many shows didn't switch, they were just cancelled and it was because filming in color costs A LOT more money. Hope that helps! :^)

    I'm always amused when younger folks say, "I don't get why people say Pryor's the GOAT...I've heard all this stuff before" without the slightest hint of self-awareness. He's the architect of modern stand up comedy. That his work is still ultra relevant is a failure of our society. That people are still wanting to do things as if it were still the 70s...that's a greater failure of our society.

    I used to think that way about him being the best, but I think a great comedian is somebody who does a lot of improv by doing things off the top of their head, Rodney Dangerfield was excellent at that. I’m not comparing him to Richard Pryor, but over 90% of stand up comedians don’t have that kind of ability

They began harassing him, but luckily I had a video camera out there at the time. They noticed me recording them and instantly stopped cursing at him. They went from threatening him to calling him sir. It was like both officers switched to their other personality which actually had some decency.

    Read the book Stranger in a Strange Land. One of the main take aways is that people don't laugh at truly good things. For those they smile. You laugh at the messed up parts of life. A baby hits their day with a bottle is heartwarming but still a violent act. Animals doing messed up things, people getting hurt, nasty things even though child friendly jokes are not really positive. Even when you finally get something good that makes you laugh think if you're laughing at the good thing or more likely the struggle or pain it took to get the good thing.

    It’s amazing that over the past few decades we laugh at these jokes and jam to music like hip hop, but always seem to miss the message. I think it’s hard to understand different cultures, but we all want the same things. We don’t blend our cultures, we just ‘coexist’. When different races learn of other cultures, it typically through a movie, that fills every stereotype imaginable. We all have our own sob stories filled with bitterness, but we need to find the compassion to help each other let it go. So many talented people, and most don’t realize those jokes are based off of life lessons. Stay happy and healthy people! Hopefully, over the next few decades we can spend our energy building up communities, instead of finding ways to tear them down.

    It is not hard to understand different cultures, especially black culture. Whites and Blacks have been around each other for hundreds of years. If you have ever listened to, Ice T's earlier rap songs, NWA songs, or any rapper talking about the police. Then you have heard the message. The problem is that, when it's not happening to you, most people don't care , and lend a deaf ear and a blind eye.

  • @akoglocko1

    @akoglocko1

    Renee S Yep, but most non-blacks, vice versa, learn about “culture” by the way media or politicians interpret the information, then deliver the wrong message. No matter the political party “leading”. Ice-T was targeted when he came out with “Cop Killer” (he wasn’t talking about all cops) they took away his 1st Amendment rights, removed the original song from the album, debated how his “use of explicit lyrics” needed to be censored, but was the message wrong? This was in the early ‘90s, what has changed? Mob Rule ignored our guaranteed rights, because it’s unpopular speech. We all have rights, and we all need to defend those precious rights guaranteed the day we were born. Coming together towards the positives will benefit us all.

    GOAT of comedy. Damn I miss Richard Pryor! What would he say about social unrest in 2020? Apparently any progress that's occurred, clearly, was an illusion! Kinda makes ya feel pissed off at being an American (because we're supposed to be better than this shit ; or is that also another illusion? ) and makes ya feel embarrassed to be human. We, as a species, must get along better!

    I wouldn't exactly say he stole his joke, the idea of cops planting evidence is widely known and the crack comment is fairly easy to come upon naturally. It's like talking about how bad traffic is and how old people walk past you faster on the footpath, multiple people could make the same joke without ever hearing it from each other.

    Problem is, that is is not some big monolith of "they". Individuals- who should be even more scared of using strength, as they are rpresentatives of Power, and should be completely and utterly sure, they DO need to use it, or they shouldn't use it at all- but instead those people revel in what was given to them along with badge and uniform, and clearly do not know, what said things really mean... And worst part is- they make the rest look like a bad guys as well... I am sure that Gorge Floyd wouldn't want to be cause of some random officer's death, just because he happens to wear same thing, his killer did...
