    Systems had passwords, they were usually just limited to 8 characters. That could withstand six months of attack over a 300-baud modem, but at the same time 99% of sysops used words or numbers as opposed to randomized alphanumeric mixes. This shortened brute forcing time with a small dictionary attack to a few hours. In many instances you could just guess that password with the system admins last name being a common favorite choice.

    With gas prices as high as they are right now I just thought of this. Just how can we pay the 9/10 of a cent? Richard brought up a very good point. In our money system in the USA we don't have fractions of a cent today. If I recall right we had bits in the 1700's and so many bits equaled a penny. So what happens to the fraction of a cent? Gas is even a part of the plot in the movie.

    No it is not. Firsteval, the rounding of decimal value is inevitable. And by the way, the fact that this computer programmer doesn't already know this and needs a colleague to explains it to him makes me wondering how he got hired :P. All in all, the money still come from somewhere, you can't just make it appears like that from nowhere. The half cent doesn't exist.
