I had a blue 450 the same as the review. Brilliant fun. They’re effortless to drive and park, and so long as you don’t expect luxury, and you get used to the unusual go-kart like gear box, it will always put a smile on your face. I miss mine terribly.

Back when the Smart wasn't a laughing stock. I miss the late 90s-early 2000s for many reasons but mainly for the attitudes regarding cars.

? They were more of a laughing stock when it came out. People wouldn't laugh at you so much after seeing them on the road for so long.

@@stefan_4508 I knew they existed before 2010; I saw some in Italy during a family vacation in 2003 (some were even airport vehicles in Germany 😂) But absolutely, the novelty of the Smart car hadn’t worn off enough for you to be laughed at for driving one back then.
@HunterJs2

Bro what? You can’t possibly believe this wasn’t laughed out of the parking lot when it came out, really, really weird take.
@Parabueto

Yeah I had the opposite experience. A decade ago when I said I'd like to buy one people ridiculed me. Now with a massive influx of commercial vehicles and basically no parking spots coming home at night in a terraced area everyone thinks the smart car is the sensible choice. First day coming back late after work I squeezed it into a spot between a minibus and double yellows that no other car would physically fit into.

I drive the smart fortwo since over 20 years and I ♥️ it You can find parking anywhere except on a poker card. And my current smart with its 84 hp, which has received chip tuning, is no longer the slowest on the autobahn. You just have to make sure that there is no crosswind at 190 km / h because it shakes quite a bit 😎

It’s a hamster wheel
My cousin has one of these. Owning one for her is about the same as owning a Ferrari from a bystanders perspective. Everyone has something to say about it, be it negative or positive and you get lots of thumbs up and people stopping you to talk about it. Basically it gets a load of attention! She says she loves the car though, even though every time it shifts it throws you forward making your foot being mashed to the floor a bit confusing to comprehend. I changed her front brakes the other day and everything is hilariously smaller on this car than any other car. The front brake discs don't even have ribs, they're solid!
@man_on_wheelz
4 жыл бұрын
@Marc Archibald Well, from my experience it's rather uncommon here in the States, even on smaller cars. Usually the front brakes are ribbed and the rear brakes are solid.
It's easy to forget that when they first came out, Smart cars were really trendy. I bought one (left hand drive) back in 2001. I've still got it. Not so trendy now of course, but apart from the window switches, dip switch, trip reset button and rev counter, nothing has gone wrong with it in over 20 years.
"Richard Hammond had a size problem, and his car was small as well." -J. Clarkson
I can see where the humorous side of Top Gear came from
i really like this blue in smart cars. i think it's the best colour for it.

Evan Chua Answered your own question bro :p
It was a fine car for its size but the nonce of it was that it took 92 octane minimum (!) and cost as much as a fullsize sedan. Beauty to park though, it would fit anywhere. Kind of miss them for the car hire service.
My mate had a diesel on of these, never seen such a big guy in a small it was funny

song at beginning
I'm in the trade for 35 years and bad cars do not exist. Just the wrong car for the wrong environment. I have a smart for small local trips, if I lived on a farm I'd drive a 4x4, if I were doing a 100 motorway miles a day I'd have a car for that purpose too. Hard driving and bad maintenance makes a car unreliable and then you have budget, quality costs money.

I had a 2009 smart car Passion model for 5 1/2 years with not one problem. Just oil change with new oil filter. Tires needed changing by then but not one problem. When a tire specialist tells you that nitrogen in tires are stupid since nitrogen is already in the air...no dummy it worked for me for 5 1/2 years w/out having to add air all the times & paying for it...the tireman is stupid (most likely because it takes business away from him on the long run) LOL
