Beyond that nice seats and a heater better than an asthmatic hedgehog would suffice many fans with a £7k lower baseline price for the lack of mod cons. People wanting tech and good offroad have a discovery, freelander, range rover for that. The defender needed to stay raw and this my friends just isn’t close to raw.

They canceled the original defender because sales were going down, and it was time for a new beginning. It would be almost impossible to make an updated version of original defender because they would have to jack the price so much. Getting a square body like the G Wagon to become aerodynamic was not cheap and that's why the G Wagon is so damn expensive. After all, the original Defender was supposed to be a cheaper, rugged offroad vehicle that almost anyone could get their hands on.

  • @Multipew

Nothing to say about drivetrain? does it have low range? Diff locks? or is it just relying on traction control? How much suspension flex is there? Does it have anti-roll bars and do they disengage in off road mode? Is there a mud terrain tyre option available or just 50/50 all terrains? I already have a RR Sport for the road and a TDi 110 double cab for work, what incentive is there for me to replace either with one of these?

colin5577 my family has owned two as well, they were brilliant, this is nothing like them. They should have left the old design and everything we loved about the car and just modernised parts of it. This is just a different car almost entirely. It looks shit

Very true, last I checked Defenders were utility vehicles, 4wd, repairable in the middle of the Amazon. All that computer nonsense is not relevant, only needs a Sat Nav and stereo, even the air suspension has to go, the body looks weak and shyt!

I haven't owned a Land Rover (Defender) for 35 years, but I'm going to buy another... Six Toyota Land Cruisers and a couple of other 4x4's have been my off road companions over the last 4 decades. I'm an agricultural contractor with 4 grandkids, 4 grandkids I like spending time with. I've tried a 110 version on a Land Rover experience day and it did everything I needed it to do off road. I might not be in JLR's target audience, but they've got a customer... I think they've built an amazing machine.

The Land Rover Defender was an off road vehicle designed for utility. That's what's so awesome about it. Don't think anyone will be getting in this with muddy wellies.
