I don’t think I’ve ever heard a studio audience laugh harder than they do at Hyacinth falling in the river.

I wonder where they got the laughs from, though. I guess they showed the pieced-together bits on big screens to the studio audience and then recorded the laughs on audio tape... 🤔

@@danielvanr.8681That’s exactly what they did. In the US, during taping of the series One Day at a Time in the 70s, they’d show the studio audience an episode of Archie Bunker’s Place and record their laughter.

I'll say this for Richard - it's too easy for him to just leave Hyacinth there, but he doesn't. He really loves her, as incomprehensible as it seems sometimes
“We’re all going home, Richard … and we’ll buy some fish and chips”! 🐟😂🐠
This is by far one of the funniest episodes in British sitcom!! Pure GENIUS! 🤣🤣🤣
"don't forget to write" Oh one can always hope.
0:33 Richard's half-hearted wave and, "Don't forget to write!" already had me rolling. When Hyacinth toppled into the river, I almost toppled out of my chair, just as when I first saw this episode in the late 90s on my local PBS station! 🤣🤣🤣

“Richaarrrd, RAAAIIISSE yourself!” “That’s what I’m trrriiiyiinnngg to doooo!” “Well, TRRRY a bit HARRRDERRRRRR!!!” 😂*😂*😂

It's also one of my favourite scenes especially at 1:13 and 2:08. It makes me laugh so much, I'm practically in tears. Hyacinth's plan for a Nautical Buffet ended up all wet. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
RIP Richard.
"Don't leave the boat, Richard!" When she clearly pushed the boat away from him. I love how oblivious yet stern she is. She's like an NPC!

2:07. I almost forgot how fantastic that is. Seeing her topple into the water! Priceless!!! The classics never go out of style.

Patricia Rutledge said that through the entire series, she only used a stunt double twice - and this is one of those times -when she falls into the water. The other one is when she is galloping across the field on the horse. When she falls in the water and comes up for air, she is facing away from the camera, so you can't tell it's her double. But considering all of the crazy stunts that she did by herself, that's quite amazing.

You know that Hyacinth Bucket (uhh, "Bouquet") is broken and defeated when she settles for fish-n-chips rather than a nautical buffet 😂🤣

This Series could not be any better, a true timeless classic.
Her aggressive voice right before toppling in is perfect xD love the scenes throughout the show when that voice comes out
I like how Richard says to Hyacinth, don't forget to write.

This is the very scene that sold me on Keeping Up Appearances. And I've been a fan ever since!!!!
Through this whole scene I laughed so hard. Don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in my life than I do with keeping up appearances (besides on the buses) tbh. True masterpiece. One of my favourite episodes what a classic 😂
Mind your jersey Richard! RIP Clive Swift.
Just be thankful Hyacinth & Richard didn't go out to sea. ⛴️
I like how she called for a weather forecast when she wasn't going to even move the boat.
We’re all going home dear. And we’ll buy some fish and chips. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Do stop harassing me Richard 😳😆
I remember watching this with my grandma when I was 8 years old with my younger brother when we stayed at our grandparents house, we laughed so much at Hyacinth falling in. I went to school, the next day and drew pictures like a comic of this very scene and gave it to my grandma. She and my grandpa kept it for many years because we found it after my grandpa’s passing, among my Pokémon and anime fan art that they both kept. 💙
Hyacinth is a national treasure 🐎🐎🐎🇭🇲🇺🇸
So stop harassing me Richard!! 😂😂
"We're all going home, Richard... and we'll buy some fish and chips."
"Hello,Sailor!."😂.
Maybe the funniest episode of all. The slapstick and stunts are wonderful. Hyacinth is really hilarious despite being a selfish monster - she even walks over Richard's back!
