    I have to admit, I really let out a sigh of relief when you commented that the label “rich mom aesthetic” was vulgar and gauche, which it is. I wish people would concern themselves less with labels and trends & simply focus on looking elegant, modest, and feminine- and being humble at the core of all of it. It’s hard to admit when we cross the line into vanity and self-seeking behavior, so always good to be on guard.

    I saw a "rich mom" recently at my kid's practice. She wore generous cut black trousers, a boxy white crew neck top in some kind of quilted material, flats and subtle jewelry. She looked very put together, but on closer inspection there was nothing in her outfit that looked especially expensive. She could have bought everything at a tj maxx. No logos at all. But it all fit her and suited her well, and her hair and face looked "done" too (actually, I don't specifically remember her exact hairstyle or makeup, but that's kind of the point). I'm beginning to realize that "rich" doesnt mean "I spent more money on this outfit" but "I have the time, resources and forethought to figure out what works for me, the time to curate my wardrobe, and the discipline and presence of mind to dress up for my own life." That is, indeed, rich.

I think regardless of the aestetic seeing other moms take pride in their appearance and take time for themselves to look good is a wonderful thing. We deserve it

    I am so thankful to have grown up in the 80s. We didn't leave the house without, at least, fixing our hair and putting on a decent outfit, not black tie, LOL, but decent enough. Honestly, the portrait makes me feel sad. All the red to me kind of symbolizes how the crown, the role, the life has hidden him, taken him over. And the butterfly - the monarch - being so close yet never actually touching him, lighting gives me the feeling of something incomplete or not yet fulfilled. And his expression looks so vulnerable and honest. I don’t know, it feels less to me like a royal portrait and more like a self portrait. I think I would have felt exposed unveiling this in the public eye.

    @@ashleyslack5960 The saying, "When everything is art, then nothing is art," rings very true in what is called the art world of our modern culture. Principles of Art, Design and Composition theory, and yes, actual Skill are no longer required in a piece of "Art." Slop anything you want on a piece of paper or canvas and call it art, and then demand that others recognize you as an artist. If they do not, then you assert that there's something wrong with their opinion, not your lack of talent or skill. A lot of what is produced (not created) is actually anti-Art. The same can be said for a lot of modern architecture as well. Another example of this nihilistic spirit is the Met Gala, where "fashion" is confused with the absurd.

    If we can maybe call it "power mom" style, it goes down a little bit better. But I agree 100% with everything you said about it, Jennifer. Hi Jennifer I don't usually write in comments but as an English woman I felt I had to comment on King Charles' portrait! I'm sorry but I don't think very highly of it I'm afraid. I love the butterfly but that's all. I think the red has totally overpowered him& washed him out! The actual photo this was taken from looked very regal but I'm afraid the portrait doesn't look regal at all! I'm loving the "Rich Mom" look as you say it's very classic & date I say "chic" 😉 I don't know much about Cannes but I do love the monochromatic creams & whites! As an English woman, (and not a youngster!) and someone who frequents art galleries I'd say that the KC portrait, whilst unconventional and disconcerting, is a work of genius! When you walk through the portrait gallery and see dozens of portraits of monarchs, they tend to blend into one and the same. What can be said here, is that this one stands out from the crowd, and that could be a good thing. The blurred redness of it, and his uniform being lost into the background means that his face stands out more. I have never seen a portrait artist capture the essence of Charles or his physical likeness so well . It will divide the comments, and I can understand that many won't like it, but as time goes by, I'm sure it will be revered as one of the best royal portraits ever made. But each is entitled to their own opinion and none of the comments here are wrong!

    Definitely agree about the name. I don't think "Rich Mom" is meant to encourage anyone; it's cliquish and a "nouveau riche only *I* deserve this" vibe. "Quiet Luxury" is more inclusive because it's something you can carve out for yourself, no matter your budget; something you can imagine described in a novel anyone from a dowager empress to a financially-struggling woman taking pride in her appearance and daily habits.

    I think the red is very representative of the monarch traditions that swallow a person whole. The battles, colonialism, and strict potalcals that can strip away anyone's self, but you can clearly see his face emerging with warm eyes and life lived wrinkles of a loved grandfather figure. I think its a very moving piece but not something you want in your home.

    I think the portrait of King Charles was interesting… Even with the red background, it’s his face and hands that stand out (Historically, portraiture was all about the face and hands- so much so that sitters sometimes paid extra to have their hands included.) Both are very expressive. And from a technical aspect, Yeo caught the likeness beautifully. I think an avant garde portrait is so fitting to Charles as well given the causes and charities he supports. As to the “Rich Mom” aesthetic: I wish as a culture we would be more interested in ACTING upper class than looking like it. It’s so shallow. And all this power dressing business is awful. I’m so tired of our culture trying to make women behave like men. Tolstoy wrote that the proper expression of strength is calmness.

    I was taken aback at first, but then, as with all important works of art, I sat with it a while. There is so much symbolism. There was so much to read into King Charles both emerging from the the red and all it represents, yet also seemingly on the verge of being engulfed by his background. It's interesting. I remind myself that there are many masterpieces in existence that were panned in their time (Monet, Manet, John Singer Sargent), and I would love to see how this portrait would be received 100 years from now

    What a fun video! Yes, more rich mom. At first I found Charles III’s portrait very jarring; his head seemed to be floating in a sea of red. But it has grown on me as I zoom it to see more detail. I think the artist really captured the essence of the king in his portrayal of his face. His kindness and approachability is evident. It is not the usual type of royal portrait but I applaud the artist for his talent and taking a risk. It certainly has led to many discussions!

    Well, I think all these trends are simply that unless you look like Giselle or Angelina Jolie and are filthy rich these styles aren't relevant in our culture unless they are simply called minimalist, understated, tasteful and ladylike the average woman doesn't have to be blocked in or defined by any label to achieve that given look. Sorry, I kinda feel like Kurt Cobain talking about grunge back in the 90s. It's just ridiculously silly if you think about it and quite insulting. But, I guess the fashion world needs to sell the next "IT" look and brain wash consumers.Most mom's that I know are rich don't look or dress like this at all.

    You are so right! Most rich people don’t dress like this… that is SUCH a good point. Wealthy people (unless you’re a celebrity) don’t advertise their wealth. They dress in classic, low key styles, Which then makes this aspirational “Rich Mom” dress style even more ridiculous.

  • @violetstarla

    @violetstarla

    Ай бұрын

    @@elpievonschoenburg9324 agreed 👍 I’m not saying all people with wealth look poor but for the most part the majority of them have more important things to do other than appear rich. They have nothing to prove. Anyone can dress to appear rich to give the impression of having that social status. It’s just a false social symbol., I’ve seen people with much less but because they love fashion or have self respect might want to exude an air of elegance and confidence by dressing well. I think it’s important to take pleasure in your appearance regardless of how much money you make.

    I truly enjoyed this video! I am about to turn 27 and aspire to look like a “Quiet Luxury Mom” in the near future. My Hubby and I appreciate your clothing wisdom to help me pare down. King Charles’s portrait is both strikingly intimidating and beautiful. “Let it not be confused that England has an army and can use it if needed.” And “I will be victorious emerging from a fiery battle with regal poise without a spot.” Is kind of what the portrait says to me. The red color is overwhelming but dare I say it evokes a sense of overwhelming power due to his face seeming so calm. Very masculine and patriarchal ! I love it great job Mr. Yeo!
