Because any other team’s front office person who spent a draft pick on someone who had a near fatal heart issue less than one year ago, played only half a season in college for a decent team in middle of the pack conference at best, and averaged 4 points would have been fired the next day.
Sports is supposed to be the only business free of nepotism. Only the best.
When you have a dad like Lebron, your NBA career has already been financially paved.
Drafting that tomato can shouldn’t have shocked anyone, it’s the same reason the skirt is running the organization into the ground.
Rich, huge fan but I don't agree with this take. I will not speak for anyone else but I feel just from what I've seen he hasn't earned it. if he was going to go to college to play ball he should have just stayed and played ball. Show everyone your ability in college and still make money with NIL while he continued his journey. He had a heart scare it hasn't even been a year so why was the push for the league so important? I'm sincerely rooting for this young man I want him to do big things in the profession he chose. My main concern is how all this noise (mine included) will effect his development.

No ones upset just opinion … just like every day we listen to your show to check out your opinion
Hard to watch these games when announcers think we are stupid. Lebron is a curse. Teams with him will not win anymore NBA Championships. LBJ will retire and then coach his son from the bench. Summer league: Announcers trying to make it seem like anything Bronny does is a big deal. He does not belong in the NBA there are hundreds of players better this kid. Oh he made a pass, oh he made a layup, oh he air balls a form shot.
Funny how he went from he's better then most people in the league?
The Lakers signed Lebron who doesn't even play defense, Got a coach who never coached and signed Lebrons son who cannot play offense or defense. What are the expectations for the Lakers this year? Lol!!!
No one likes high level nepotism, no matter the field. The fact it happens everywhere just makes it more annoying to the general public. This kid got a $7.9 million contract that he absolutely didn't deserve. That's something totally different than a kid working at his parent's mom and pop shop. That's why the average sports fan thinks this is a terrible joke.
Rich acting like Bronny's last name was Pfizer
Rich… cmon.. we see that all the media got the same memo to defend this situation with their life but the given the stats of the player and the history of this league, the contract and guaranteed money is unprecedented. Its insane. The kid did not earn the money or draft.

Im mad because Kobe would be absolutely disgusted with what his lakers have become.
“And sons” companies businesses you can hand down to sons that you have trained to do so. playing in the NBA is a job that you cannot just hand down because it’s not yours to give (its the owner’s or the gm’s) and because you can’t really just force anybody to be ready for that kind of job, it requires absolutely elite skills. You can’t even compare this to something like the knicks hiring Rick Brunson or whatever because he was actually a coach at least. Bronny is not a player. Sorry, he’s not. After high school, it is a fact that he has only ever averaged something like 5 inefficient points on a bad college team.
Patty Mills was extremely productive and successful as a college basketball player and a key reason St. Mary's became a Top 25 team. Lebron's kid did nothing in college. You can't compare them as No. 55 draft picks when one of them would not have been drafted at all of not for his dad. If anything, the Patty Mills comparison should further highlight the ridiculousness, not tempt a serious comparison.
Boogie Ellis (5th Year Senior, USC Guard) has better stats, more experience and better prepared for the NBA and would be a value draft pick than Bronny.

The big hidden trick in view of everyone is talking about nepotism. This is not the issue here. The issue is putting or not the Lakers in a position to win championships. Hiring Junior is not an adequate action for that purpose. However, nothing could be farther from Lakers' stakeholders mind than winning championships. They don't give a darn to it. Their sole goal is to make huge money by continuing feeding the LeBron drama. The only way to stop this nonsense would be a huge uproar by Lakers fans against those who have been smearing their beloved team's legacy.
it's because espn doesn't cover the "and sons" businesses 24/7 and post highlights even when it's mediocre.
The fact lbj your father and has been training you and coaching how cant you score more then 5 pts but according to lebron hes better then 85% of the nba

I'm not up in arms. The Lakers aren't my team. If they want to run their franchise like a clown shown to serve the ego of their aging star, that's their business. I won't give them any of my money, but I will enjoy hearing about their inevitable failure.
Looking to have Lebron on your show in the near future? Lots of ball washing.
It's simple why it's professional sports and as fans we are allowed to criticize I am in a position of being able to hire and I will never hire someone in my family in favor of someone who actually earned the position if rich and others want to support that kind of behavior by all means and if the Lakers pay 8 mil to all their second round picks from now on I will respect the Lakers but I doubt that will happen that 55 spot does matter maybe not to rich but to a hard working kid that had dreams of the nba it doesn't matter how slim the chances are that's a foot in the door earning your position in anything you do is a lot more fulfilling
Ice cube son is in godzilla movie
Really sloppy take. Avoid this topic Rich. It doesn't do you any favors.
You guys keep saying "why does everyone care" because you keep talking about it. If you keep talking about it people are going to comment. A good portion of people see sports as the ultimate meritocracy. This kind of puts a nail in that coffin. I don't personally care too much, i dont like Lebron but his kids seems like a really good kid, but this whole thing seems like it is for Lebron. It doesn't seem like any of this is about the kid, and for a lot of this it just goes to the idea that Lebron is the biggest narcissist in sports.
I wonder if Zander ever wanted to work in sports media, if he would ever get help getting a job...........
Biggest victim here is Bronny because this is going to follow him the rest of his life and the problem isn't Bronny or his talent or lack of talent it's the gigantic EGO of Lebron James
Professional sports has has always been a form of show business, and LeBron and Bronny is great show business. And unless the youngster is a dud, it’s a gift that will keep on giving. And given LeBron’s contributions to the sport over his career, I say that if he wants to play with his son, he damn well should be given the opportunity. Nepotism? It’s as American as John Quincey Adams.
Laker fans that want to win care🎉
Do not interrupt your opponent when he is making a mistake. Let the lakers entertain this 7.5 million mistake. Meanwhile the west is better. Even the Sacramento Kings could outplay this storied franchise. Houston, San Antonio and Charlotte are all coming for them too.

Ill tell you who cares; Lakers fans who wpuld have liked a real draft pick, or maybe anyone one of the dozens of players and their families who wont get this opportunity- who deserved it more- who arent already set up for life like Bronny is. How can you say "who cares?" When so many people obviously do. Just because nepotism happens doesnt make it ok.
Wish I could get paid that money cause my daddy was on the team. Nepotism is wrong even if it is common in that S Hole known as LA.
Lebron can do whatever he wants. I think it just shows what hes worried about and it aint winning. Thats why he aint the 🐐.
The sad part is that most likely it's LeBron that's aggressively pushing for his sons to get in the NBA so he can say that he played with his son, like the Griffeys. It's not about what's good for his kids (Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest a year ago and for a lot of parents that would be enough to try to stop their kids from pursuing any sports), it's about LeBron and his ego. This whole time him and his agent were lying about Bronny even going to the draft, about drafting him, about JJ etc. And now the whole Lakers organization is acting like JJ hiring and drafting Bronny is based on merit.
Rich is on the Lebron payroll. How much he pay you bud ? Absolute garage
Cry all you want but you can't change it. Bronny is a Laker and crying isn't gonna stop it 😂. WAAH, WAAH 😢😂.
How much money do you guys think Rich Eisen got paid (by LeBron's PR team) to publicly state this? I'm guessing there's no way that you casually have a take that Nepotism is okay at the very highest level of any professional position.
if you're ok with players not being drafted based on meritocracy, when you have no problem with the 55th pick being given a guaranteed 4-year contract...averaging under 5 in points, rebounds, assists and steals...and goes 2-8 from the field in only 1 summer league game, and may not play another due to "injury"...and while all previous collegiate players with heart conditions never being drafted, with Klutch Sports holding the Los Angeles hostage hanging the re-signing of LBJ over the organizations' head, with the hiring of JJ "LBJ fanboy" Riddick as head coach, who may or may not made a disparaging remark during Chinese New Year's (comical), and since the Lakers couldn't get any big name free agents to sign with them, have LBJ sign a max contract so that they are right up against the salary cap... but hey, if you're ok with that...
Bronny hasn't shown anything to say that he will be anymore than a tradeable mid-level piece of a team. The story will be irrelevant after the first game.

The Lakers went crazy because the Celtics passed them on the banner count. And at this point, for this next year, it's basically, LeBron can play with his kid, or we can start rebuilding a championship roster to go up against the Celtics again. And they went with LeBron, and a couple of good players decided to go elsewhere because of Bronny. They aren't blaming Bronny, they're blaming the atmosphere of LeBron controlling everything, including bringing in an inexperienced head coach.
