Riccar Lock Rl-320 and how to service it.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How I service the Riccar Lock Rl-320 in detail. If you find one in the wild you might find this video interesting.
I wasnt real happy with the first one I posted the quality was very poor. I replaced my Video editing software and read the books on Adobe CS. Redid the Video from the raw data. Turned out way better. Hopefully over time Ill get more comfortable with Premiere and videos will get even better.

Thank you so much for this video! I have just dragged out an inherited Riccar RL340 from its hidey-hole. I've never seen it running, it hasn't been used in over ten years, the threads are in a mess and I've no idea if it works. But I would love to be able to use it! Your video has given me all the info on what I need to do next, and the confidence to just give it a go! I would love to see a video on how the 340 is threaded - I expect this will be my next epic adventure! 😄

Its on the ajenda to show off my 340. Remember the 340 does a two thread chain stitch and two thread edge stitch Not an overlock.

I love that you teach how to maintain a good machine. I have a 343DR and the part that holds the cutting blade has broken😢 Do you have any suggests on where to find a replacement part. My local machine repair was completely unfamiliar with riccar. I would rather repair than throw away what has been a great machine.

Thats ruff one. You might try a machine shop see if they could make you a new one probably be worth more then the hole machine. Janome used the same cutting blades so some of there vintage machines might be a good doner. But these were made by a Japanese co Call Mammy lock if that helps.

I was wondering what happened with this video, but I love what you did! How did you end up preferring those Riccars/? As for suggestions, what about how to thread one of those sergers? Hey also, would you ever do a servicing on one of those old black Singers? Many would love to see that video and you make servicing so much more accessible to us newbies. Right now, vintage sewing machines are just being practically thrown out. Thanks for all you do for us.

I bought them for a few reasons. 1. There considered Semi Industrial. Made from all metal parts. The feet feeddogs and knifes are high carbon steel. 2. They make 6 different models all doing a different serge stitch. As time goes ill show each machine and how to operate them. 3. There all exactly shaped the same and bolted into the same body housings. So one desk fits all 6 of the machines I own. I made a custom desk for them so I have a nice table space to work on that they drop into. For Newer sewers that are just learning how to use a serger I wouldnt recommend one of these machines as they are tricky to thread and operate maybe when im done making videos it will help people that do have them. But I would recommend a Brother 1034d serger for any one new to sergers. I own one and in compairison its a lot simpler to thread there documention is really good and brother spent a lotta money making videos on how to use them and the things you can do with them. Unfortunatly the quality of a Brother 1034d is not great meaning if you buy one chances are if you use it like I used mine in a year youll be buying another one as mine is totally wore out. Still works but the stitches are getting sloppy. Far as the black vintage singer sergers I actually looked into buying one of them when I wore out my brother. But there very crude. They are industrial but very early machines. And honeslty if I was going to go that route I would simply buy a New "Newtech" serger and have a much better machine that I could buy parts for and would cost me about the same. Plus I really didnt want to dedicate a full industrial table for just a serger.

@@SewSaveMe I would personally love to see all your machines and the history of why you chose them. I have a feeling that would be an epic video…. You’re right about the Brother 1034d. Its cheap, easy, and perfect for most hobbyist needs. Mines going strong last 5 years because I haven’t even gone through a half cone of thread.

It really is a great machine the Brother 1034d and I even recommend it. But I ran about 8 sets of 6000 yard cones though mine and the foot and overlock finger are grooved and worn out. I can buy the foot and finger but the costs of those two parts is over half the cost of the entire machine. :(
