Hey! Pretty good find! Looks and sounds like a pretty good tool. I’m just trying to figure out which stinky, second-hand store you found it at. There are a few in our area. 😂

A good P-Bass tone makes pretty much any mix sound better. There's a good reason this bass with an Ampeg B-15 was all over the Motown sound. It sits in the mix properly and supports beautifully. I find the tone knob sounds best around 5 or 6. It's got enough brightness to be clear, but it's not piercing.

i wonder if this is mostly because producers are used to working with it. Like if you show up with some kind of active bass or a jazz or something they're like "ehhh, this is effort". But have an old P bass? They've seen it 1000 times.

I love my Squier CV60s P. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Great channel, too. I just subscribed.

Thanks, Brother. Awesome 🤘 🎸 👌 review. It's interesting how the Squier comes with a bone nut, as stated on the Fender website. But the made in Mexico Player Series, which is higher in the Fender model range and more expensive, comes with a synthetic bone nut.

@@Rib13Bass I got it and I absolutely love it! It came with a set of old Flatwound strings and definitely nails that vintage style, tone, and definitely a classic vibe! Lol

This p-bass sounds better then my 1980 japan p-bass, also sunburst, also with rosewood (i mean also not maple fretboard). My biggest problem - is the nreck dive. Man, ive spend the last 4 days listening to p-bass sound comparisons. From yamaha bbp34, yamaha bb735, Sandberg, old fender vs new fender and etc. Preamps comparison pickup p-bass comparisons - and i can hear every difference in any youtube video. And i can say - your p-bass sounds like an excellent p-bass. With that low mid growl. i would change the tuners first of all) Excellent channel!

Just an opinion but I think that a lot of growl comes from setup ( low action), string type and newness (rounds), and pickup height.....when I got this bass, it had a wonky setup with a shim in the neck pocket. It played ok with no real growl.....I pulled the shim, adjusted the truss tod, lowered the action, raised the pickups and added newer strings ( rounds)....I got the growl

@@Rib13Bass I absolutely agree. As it seems to me - a properly tuned instrument (for the tasks of a musician) is the most important thing. I also love low action. Some instruments require shims, some don't for the low action ir Vice versa. I had to work in a music store in the younger age - a rewarding experience when a large import of various instruments passes through the hands. For example the same model, but different colors - you sit and adjust them all.. and they all can sound a bit differently. And if the setting is different, then the sound can be very different. I have a friend who tunes the action in such a way that you can stick your little finger between the string and the fretboard at the 15th fret) but he is a big guy, 150 kg and his fingers are thick and plays mainly open strings and heavy music)) And for me it's not a playable instrument. In general - everything you say is correct. The strings, the correct tuning of the instrument, the manner of playing, the playing technique, the position of the pickups and their appearance, and only then what kind of wood is there and especialy what word is printed on the headstock of a guitar) This is even if you do not touch on the recording method. There are also hundreds of videos about the differences in the sound of preamps, plug-ins, various di-boxes, compressors, etc. etc. .. and everything has a little effect on what kind of sound the viewer has in the end. And another question is with what we are listening through. In the toilet through a smartphone speaker, or with good headphones or monitors. I apologize for the verbosity, and if somehow I express my thoughts incomprehensibly, English is not my native language. And of course - great humor and editing. I look forward to new, fresh, original and honest reviews.

Nice review :) i love mine. Left it stock except for getting a decent setup by a decent guitar tec and a new bone nut cut and a set of flats. Was you recorded it via DI or through an amp, if so, what amp? :)

Great video as always. I'm thinking about getting a PJ bass, in your opinion what are the down sides to made in mexico fenders? Is a good PJ comparable to a P bass?

There are excellent MIM basses (example: I thought the MIM Fender Nate Mendel P Bass was very nice)....For a Fender PJ, my American Performer is very good. However, I think their retail new is a bit steep so finding one used would be cool. The Yamaha BB Series are also excellent PJs....Yes, a good PJ is comparable to a P Bass...providing the P pickup is in the Precision bass sweetspot, just turn off the J and its a P (although there are folks that disagree with that based on hair widths) - As always, thank you for always dropping by my channel

@@Rib13Bass Another question is have you ever played a player series with an active setup? mainly asking because of the active passive switch. wondering if I can get classic P tones out of it while being able to get more aggresive sounding tones as well. The ESP GB bass has a slap switch, and a maple fretboard. My main goal with the new bass is a maple fretboard. The fender is green and the ESP is blond.

Classic Vibe bass guitars were made in China by Grand Reward between 2008 and 2019. And since 2019 most of them are made in Indonesia by either Cortek or Samick. Some few examplaries are still made by Grand Reward in China, and these feature a better finish, chunkier necks and better trussrods. The Indonesian models really often have planimetry issue. I had 10+ necks made by the Grand Reward plant, and all of them were outrageously good. By the way, it's very interesting that you didn't play that bass in EADG, it gives a kinda different tone.

Thank you kindly for the info.....and .no reason on the tuning: just happened to tune it in Eb...a lot of hired gun three-piece situations i do are often in Eb so it didn't seem unusual to me

Half down is a common tuning I don’t know what is so interesting about it………

Vintage bridges is the worst BULLSHIT I ever encountered. I owned a bunch - 70s Japanese (Grecos, Heebes like that); 1st thing 2b done - f..n bridge replacement. All the time. No exceptions. SBT

lol...Nope: Im a modern tone guy -- I favor that piano string sound, especially that Marcus Miller J bass sound....Ill use flats when I absolutely have to in the studio but, otherwise, no flats nor vintage tone for me (not even Pressurewounds). i do this for professional reasons: i can warm up a roundwound bass sound by taming down or warm EQing the zing, even by changing pluck position. ...but I cant add sizzly zing to flatwounds if i need to. In variety band situations (which is mostly what i do these days), roundwounds are way more tone flexible" lol..... Your Mileage May Vary :)
