    I pulled a loaded rollback tow truck out with mine, no drama. If it will do that with no issues, I doubt I'll have any trouble out of them on the trail. These things are exceptionally well made to come from China. I've been impressed. Somebody is doing good quality control.

    When I spoke in person with them, they have their own specs that they look for which is why the quality seems to be very consistent/good. So no matter where it's made it's still being built to Rhino USA specifications

    Yeah unfortunately I based my info off some other sources that were confused as well. Closest I've seen is that the stuff is made specifically for them at least, to their spec-not just rebranded. But still...

    there is a big difference between an unknown company and a known company in china. the known company definitely have quality controllers in their factory overseas. the quality controller will oversea if the product was made with quality or to be rejected. the quality controller usually is a representative from the main office or sometimes the owner himself acting as the quality controller. on the other hand, it is very risky if the product is from china and was built by an unknown company.

    Regarding the Hitch Receiver Mounts, any brand in general. They all advertise a weight rating. Regardless of the receiver mount/shackle, isn't the real concern and weak point going to be the $3 hitch pin that's actually securing the mount to the actual vehicles receiver? It seems like the hitch pin is going to be the weakest link. Am I missing something?

  • @chazpages

    @chazpages

    5 жыл бұрын

    This is a good point, but I believe the shear strength of the pin exceeds that of the hitch/assembly. Also the shear type would be a "double shear" plane since the hitch pin contacts the hitch in two different locations. I've found many debates about the actual rating online, but failed to find an actual test. Plenty of crash stories and other incidents, but the hitch pin never seemed to be an issue.

    @@chazpages I too thought of the double plane and having 2 contact locations. I couldn't determine if that actually helped or not. Good video's, thanks for posting!

    I searched recently for "hitch pin weight rating", paraphrasing what I found: hitch pins don't have weight ratings because they are much stronger than any other part of the towing system.

    Everything is made in China, it is much cheaper. You make this tow rope in USA and you can double or triple the retail price.

    I've started using this-amzn.to/2GJAfRB there is no pin to lose with it. I stopped using locking ones after I realized how easy they are to break off, and instead use an actual cable/chain and lock if I need the extra security.

    I guess in what way? I keep (2) 20ft straps in the truck at all times, and I've used them for small pulls, towing kids on sleds, and as a make-shift climbing rope (had to get into an old mine lol) and it's worked great so far. I have enough trust in them that I would use them if I got stuck while out exploring with the family.

    Without a doubt. I keep them in the truck now so they can be used when not expected+one less thing to need to remember prior to hitting the trail. Heck even if you can't pull stuff with your car/truck it's still a good idea to keep with you in case someone stops to help.

  • @chazpages

    Yeah, that will be coming up. I keep one strap, shackles, and jumper cables in the truck at all times and the rest I keep a few of the soft tool bags with various tools/parts and toss those in when I go out on the trail or camp.
