I love my semla (I'm Swedish) but man, they are filled with cream and almond goo (similar to marzipan) and trust me, 1 fills you up big time! My record was 4 in a day and I felt so sick! X) they were used before lent to fatten you up I believe and we have them for shrove/Fat Tuesday ^^

The almond goo is called "mandelmassa" which translates to almond icing according to the Internet, it's not the same as marzipan but kinda similar. Mandelmassa has a different texture and more almonds in it. ^^ I don't think it is the same as in fyrstekaka though... But I'm no expert on fyrstekaka;p

It’s so weird to think about Uncle Grandpa now. It’s like this distant, compartmentalised memory.

We had our own Pizza Inn here in Arizona. It was called Eatsa Pizza. All you can eat pizza, and they had breakfast and dessert pizzas too. Used to ditch school with friends to eat as much as we could all day. Good times.

We have something like that over here on the east coast. It's called Cici's Pizza and it have a game room, pasta, salad, regular pizzas (along with crazy combinations) and dessert pizzas.

My parent's went on a date in that Pizza Inn in Dunn. So cool to hear you guys talking about things from back in NC because I've been to a lot of those places. We used to go to that Pizza Inn on field trips for school.

There's still a Pizza Inn in my hometown (Lancaster, SC). Lancaster's used to have a helium dispenser that looked like a man with a mustache. It still basically looks the same as it did in the 90s.

I'm not kidding about this- I intend to buy a coffin and use it as a bed. I like small spaces a lot, so it'd be perfect. It sounds very cosey.

Thee was a pizza inn in Hollywood Fl that we went to when I was a kid in the late 70's, early 80's. It still has a sensory memory for me and I remember begging for change to keep playing at the two sided pac- man table while waiting for pizza.

i can go and get pizza from that exact same pizza inn any time i want to. i live in erwin nc which is right beside dunn. pizza inn is still one of my favorites.

Semla is not served in hot milk anymore, at least I have never heard nor seen it. It is a sweet bun that you cut in half, like hamburger buns, and in the bottom part you make a little pit. In the pit you put a mixture of almond paste and cream. On top of that you put some whipped cream and then the lid. If you want you can powder it with powdered sugar on top. That's how we eat it in Skåne at least, I don't know about the rest of Sweden though :)

We don't eat semlor in worm milk, it is a bun split in to with a top and a boten in between their is wiped cream and marzipan. Super yummy!

Just wanted to say that Rhetts pronunciation on "selma" is perfect. We in Sweden even have a day once a year that's namned "fettisdag" (kinda means fat tuesday) which basically is the day where all the swedes is suppose to eat at least one semla. And now a semla is like a bun that you cut in half and put whipped cream and a vanilla goo (I don't really know what it is)

They must have these scheduled to come out at exactly 6 am EST everyday. They always auto-post at the same time.

On Facebook there was a post about a husband and wife. They were married for over 75 years. The wife died before the husband. The next day the husband had also died.
