RG3 Was Better Than Mahomes? Art Briles Looks Back

Former Baylor Bears head coach Art Briles has mentored some amazing athletes over the years. Perhaps the most phenomenal was Robert Griffin III, whose NFL career was cut short due to injuries. Briles also coached AGAINST Patrick Mahomes when he was leading Texas Tech. Does Briles really think that RG3 was actually better than the current Kansas City Chief quarterback?

Nonsense. He was successful his rookie year, teams didn't have enough time to figure him out and build a scheme to stop him. We seen what happened when they did. He was another Lamar Jackson.

I get what Art Briles is saying. Mahomes had his own skill set. He was allowed to use and maximize them in a system that utilizes his skills to the max. Mahomes got Reid. And had RG3 got with a coach like that in the NFL....Art Briles spoke nothing but truth here. I had often thought that if RG3 got with a coach like Reid in the NFL he would have been on a HOF career path just like Mahomes is now. I mean we all see the foolishness of the establishment of the NFL!!!!!! They worship their own systems and playbooks and history. Art Briles needs to be coaching in the NFL. And look how dumb the NFL can be in moments... They voluntarily black ball this proven football genius and keep recycling failures!!!! If that isn't proof I dont know what is.

In 1 Samuel 17:40, David picks up five smooth stones from the brook as he prepares to confront the giant called Goliath. Why five? Why not just one? It’s simple, he prepared for more than just one fight! Make this your prayerful declaration today;“I am not a one stone Christian. I am not a one stone believer. I have more than just one. I’m not anointed just to knock down one giant. I have enough stones to knock down every giant that comes my way. That giant in my family is coming down. I have a stone for the giant in my health. I have a stone for the giant in my finances. I have a stone for the giant in my past, the giant in my present and the giant in my future. I have a stone for every giant that would dare rise up against my children and my children’s children.” BTW: I’m not afraid to run out of stones. Why? Because I know where to find the brook! As long as you know where the brook is located, you will never run out of stones. As long as you know that in the presence of God there is fullness of joy, there is grace, there is mercy, there is victory, you will never run out of stones. Have blessed day in Jesus name!

Or he picked up 5 stones instead of 1, because he didnt have 100% faith that God would deliver him as he promised.

I do agree that if RG3 was never drafted by Redskins he would of been in the league today playing at a high level. Patrick Mahomes dropping to the chiefa was a blessing. Imagine if Redskins got their hands on Patrick Mahomes. I honestly believe his career would of been over.

No he wouldn’t. RG3 was one dimensional. Once the league figured him out, he was done.

RG3 was nothing without his legs. Lets not make the guy into something he wasnt. His accuracy wasn't that good, without the threat of running teams teed off on him.

Wrong!!!!! He had an extremely strong arm my friend. Check his passing yards at Baylor and in fact the pass that won him the Heisman Trophy that won the game. And he was a very good go route deep ball passer. And his pump fake was next level. His speed was super fast and being a track star his run made him a special threat. He was not a Lamar Jackson. Go back and watch his highlights. He was special.

That Texas Tech team he was on was awful. They had ZERO defense and had virtually no offensive players, either, besides Mahomes. He was their whole team.

It may not have been yard for yard as strong, but it was still tip top strong by comparison to any of the other QB's in this league. Even Hugh Jackson said that the ball came off his hand with a powerful thrust that overwhelmed him. RG3 got caught up in the wrong systems for himself. To include Baltimore. RG3 was never a run first strength QB like the boss Lamar Jackson. He tried to fit in that system as well. He is more of a Mahomes type system QB. And he would thrive.

@@cherp7522 Mahommes doesn’t just have arm strength. We’re talking about release and how he can get rid of the ball in awkward angles. If we’re just talking arm strength, Jay Cutler would be the best QB ever.

@@mperformance3502 I get all that. You are not going to reduce RG3 or Mahmoes to some statement as if. The intangibles etc. I love what Mahomees brings to the table. But he is fortunate his coach did not try and make him become a typical NFL QB and do the "footwork" dance and form dance they all evaluate QB's on who happen to get on a struggling team. Mahomes is damn lucky my friend he was allowed to show his tricks. Not many QB's including RG3 got to show their natural skills cause the QB coach would say: NO, take 5 steps, do this, and plant both feet and throw. You cant even say what RG3 could have done to include no look passes. Coaches will not let most QB's get away with that in the NFL!!! And Jay Cutler got to play his style of football. RG3 and Mahomes as well as Lamar are special QB's. they are unique.

RG3 didn't have the physicality. Dude needed 30 lbs of muscle. He was too thin and too fragile.
