RF Design-28: SMA-RF Board Assembly and Analysis - Part 3

Ғылым және технология

Learn all about modeling Enclosure / Cavity effects on the RF circuit performance which could be significant at higher frequencies. With ADS & EMPro providing the integrated working environment, accounting & finding solution to these kinds of effects are quite straightforward.

Hello Anurag Sir. Thanks for the video on cavity resonance impact! Usually what I have seen that if the length and width dimension of the cavity are comparitvely small, the Eigen mode Frequencies comes up at frequencies close to or higher than 10-15 GHz, in which case we need not worry about the cavity if our passband is below 4-5 GHz correct? Also, let's say cavity resonance is not impacting our passband performance, (proven through Eigen mode simulation), but we still end up finding some unexpected peaks in the S parameter measured plots (which we didn't find in our simulated results at design stage, where we took all care in modelling the layout and its parastitics), then can you suggest what can be the possible causes for getting such peaks?

Its difficult to comment without seeing what kind of peaks you are seeing. Cavity resonance is only one of cause of distortion but other probable cause include assembly tolerances, SMA connector etc. You might need to relook at all the aspects of the design & assembly if you are seeing any unexpected peaks

Hello sir. Thank you for your great job. I have a trouble following your video. you insert "EMpro 3D component" to RFpro in last step of video.(27:18) but in my case can't find that menu(file>insert). just 2 choice(file>save, close) exist. can you help me?

It seems you are using old version of ADS? I would recommend to use whatever latest version you can.

Filter has no GND layer, am I seeing right? Could you tell more about it?

Yes. In general, suspended substrate stripline filters have no GND layer.

No, the filter demonstrated has Cover Plate at the bottom that you can see when I discussed about the filter stackup. Try to watch the video again ~1.40min and you will get your answer

SystemVue is the best choice to perform Budget Analysis and in ADS 2024U1 you now have the capability to use RF System Explorer which brings all the cool features of SystemVue to be accessed from inside ADS...😊
