This is probably the 'freshest', most 'spirited' and outright most elevating rendition of this Overture in those 15 years that I have been scouring YT for this Overture. And, Lo-and-Behold, it is a youth orchestra that does the job almost to perfection. I am really blown away by the minimalistc size of this Orchestra, as well as the soud, accuracy and musical depth in this performance.

You can just see Yukon King bounding through the snow, Sergeant Preston not far behind on his horse. 60 years ago, I listened to this on the radio and loved it then, and still. This excellent rendition made me smile - a lot. Thanks!

I can`t get enough of this. So fresh and young and happy... And the rendition is an eternal pleasure... Look at their joy and sensibility. It is hard to believe that such a little orchestra could sound so great!

This is so clean. It sounds great with a small orchestra. Maybe Reznicek "envisioned it" being played by a smaller pit orchestra. The players are incredible. This is a better rendition than some "major symphony orchestras" I've listened to, playing this piece.

Excellent point. The solos in a large orchestra and space lose their important/dynamic/lyrical effect. Mathias Fletzberger is pure magic.

Excellent in all departments. Reznicek's exquisite central tune had just the right dynamics, tempi were good and consistent, solos were clean and characterful... to this small orchestra of very competent musicians, I say well done!

What a great performance!! And what a conductor! Didn't need a score, gave great cues, made sure the trumpet licks were heard, and every one on stage was having a great time. Loved the concertmaster! He was practically laughing, it was so much fun to play the big tune. Bravi tutti!!

I wrote the above 6 years ago, and I still mean every word of it. This performance is so outstanding that I return to it again and again when I need a boost!! I wonder what has happened to all these performers. They all deserved good careers!

What a great piece to use when explaining Sonata Allegro form!

I fully agree. It is a brilliant interpretation of Rezniceks overture and there are few interpretations I've heard so far with the exposition being repeated. Therefore it is a perfect example to show the good old Sonata form in Vienna classics. I'm particularly fond of sonata movements with expositions being repeated whenever granted by the composer because you get the chance to listen to those cleverly constructed transistion bars leading back to the beginning.

The solos are wonderful, but the violin section is the heart and soul of this piece. That young man who is first violin is exciting to watch. They move/play as if with one body.

OMG at 2:07 it is the theme used for" Sgt. Preston of the Yukon". TV series from my youth. 1956 I think.

Indeed, it is. The radio series "Challenge of the Yukon" was broadcast from 1938 to 1955, and the tv show from 1955-1958. Both used parts of Reznicek's "Donna Diana Overture" and the programs always ended with Preston saying to his dog "Well, King, this case is closed".
