My father and a friend couldn’t read notes but they play the piano well by ear . Dad was a good singer as well and played the guitar bless his soul.He told me if you play the guitar you can play the piano. I play the piano oido and notes but can never play the guitar . It’s hard for me :(

Tatang Rey Valera as a 100% LAOS since many decades ago and still breathing of his remaining life, is actually not a Filipino loving personality when he criticized the SB19 instead of promoting Filipino talents for the pride of the country. He only loves his own ego and ranting of his being KSP. I am discouraged of his unacceptable mentality as a senior citizen, that is why I burned all my long-playing album collections of this old man. He can never be an icon having too much of self-righteousness.

I enjoyed this interview so much. Lumaki ako with a big family na mahilig sa music. Na merong stereo na laging naka-on. Updated sa mga bagong plaka. I was 11 nang una kong narinig sa radio ang Mr. DJ. Sa unang dinig ko pa lang ay naging lifetime favorite song ko na sya. Lagi ko siyang kinakanta noon kahit ngayong 50+years old na ako. Habang nakikinig ako kay Rey bumabalik ako sa panahon na yon. Even ang kanta ni Rey na Naalala Ka was my family's favorite. Akala ko nga noon ang guapo-guapo ng sinher ng kantang yon kasi napakaganda ng boses nya. 😁😁😁 Maraming salamat sa mga magagandang awitin na isinulat mo, Rey. Na naging mga awit na din ng buhay ko. Salamat din sa mga kwentong hindi namin alam kagaya ng si Tito Sotto pala ang boss mo noon; ganun mo pala nabuo ang kantang Mr DJ, pati na din yung nanggaya sa iyo. Grabe ano? God bless you. I agree with most of the comments here. Last saturday, i was in Music Museum watching him with Dulce and Marco Sison in a concert. Gusto ko sana magpakuha ng pic pero wow. Yung karisma nya nakakapagmagnet ng tao. Up to the point na nakaalis na sya, hindi ko na namalayan kc natulala na ko the whole session na nakaharap ko sya. His songs are immortal. His songs are rare gems.

One of my favorite Filipino musicians is Rey. I was raised listening to his music, and the only song that ever brought tears to my eyes was "Malayo Pa Ang Umaga." It always brings back memories of the middle of the 1990s, when my luck was pretty bad and I had trouble finding work. In the hope that I would be recruited, I used to search for work by walking around Cavite's EPZAs (Export Processing Zones) from dawn until the afternoon with my cousin. That song also makes me think of other young Filipinos, like myself, who struggled to get by while looking for work in our generation, often going without lunch and barely having enough money for food.
