    Have you ever tried " water " as weights in your tires ? Work really good for rock rawling !

    Maybe the rear sway bar is limiting the flex a little? More flex might help in that terrain. But I’m sure you’ve already considered that. Performance shortcomings aside, such a great looking rig!

    I remember when I got frustrated asking for a lot of companies to make a HV based car ESC, so I decided to have a not so well known company do some for me, but it was also to prove to someone that a aircraft based esc can work for the car side of the hobby. As I sense the same frustration, are we about to witness a future JRH Crawler? Another great video John.

    I love 3d printed inserts. Got a set of 3brc antifoams I run, and waiting on some yzzr inserts. Game changing when the weight and inserts are right.

    The guy that makes the SL3D squids told me they need to have about a 2mm gap between the top of the insert and the tire on the inside. Otherwise they try to fold on the inside of the tire and you end up with a lumpy hard spot where the insert will fold inside the tire.

    I print my own inserts. That isn’t accurate in my experience. Mine have only buckled when I put them in tires that are a little too small. But having a little bit of a gap doesn’t seem to hinder performance.

    @HollerRC This is my experience as well as the SL3D makers experience and recommendation from his experience. I put some made for proline bfg's into rc4wd tires, and they got pinched/folded inside the tire because they was to big for the rc4wd tires.

    If you remove the outer wall, then slightly increase the percentage on the gyroid infill to compensate, the folding problem goes away. And you get the added benefit of venting in the tread so water can get out.

    @@ShoddyRC what slicer do you use that allows removing the walls from only the outside of a print? Cura 5.6 only removes all walls.

  • @ShoddyRC

    @ShoddyRC

    @@HollerRC I use Cura, but import the inner and outer as separate bodies. Then use the per body settings to set the wall count to 0 on the outer body. You loose a little stiffness, but with a gyroid infill, 0.3 line width, and 8% seems to work well on the cheap Amazon 87a tpu. It comes out like a soft, low density foam.

    My 10ii isnt the lightest rig ever, and dual stage foams are almost required, but after a few years, i wore them out. Im ready to experiment... perhaps with something like that. Man, id sure like to come move some rocks, have a stacking party, with the least capable rigs. Goal is to finish exactly in the middle. That way its anyone's game.

    Hey John, great content as usual, really guilty that I had not subscribed, until now. All fixed. Love to see the passing of seasons with different videos, it keeps me company in the relative (partially wanted) solitude of my life ;) I am seriously considering a 3D printer for RC because it looks like a solid investment that repays itself in a short time.

    I like how yours turned out. I think mine are a little too stiff still for what I wanted to use them in. I’m trying to build a lightweight crawler (around 1.5 kg) and the foams I made were heavier than I wanted them to be. So I’ll probably try them out in a heavier rig like a trx6 or something.
