    I love this thing. For those who want to plan longer flights, you should get little navmap. You can put in all the waypoints and use the measuring tool to easily get the radial and distance from VORs along the route

    I recall that in the late 70s and early 80s VOR RNAV was the "latest trick". Aviation magazines at the time, like FLYING, had lots of articles and reviews on the subject, and the ads pages were all about RNAV. GPS was still not a thing and was still far away from airplanes, so VOR RNAV was the way to go, direct.

    Honestly if it wasn't for reception and interference issues, and of course the fact that GPS is so useful for people OUTSIDE aircraft, aRea NAVigation seems perfectly adequate for locating an aircraft on a 2d plane. It probably isn't as precise as GPS but works for the purpose. Strangely when I was first learning VOR navigation, I was confused the way it worked because in my mind as long as one had a VOR Station, a Radial, and a Distance then you could plot any point in the map, so why do I need to fly from station to station? In my mind I was essentially using RNAV. I won't say I invented it of course because it existed already (this was the late 90s) but I didn't know about it. Seems such an obvious thing really.

    Very clever way of navigating in the old days, before GPS was available. I've had a long break from Black Square King Air 350, never learned this function back then...but not it's crystal clear, danke !

    Great vid. I remember the initial RNAV's I used on a rental plane in the 80s had one where we entered the lat/long coords. They were really simple to operate. Yet, they came with this book of operations which was a bit thicker than it needed to be, as it basically provided you with PhD level education on the lat/long navigation. Then the instructions on how to use it were more difficult than necessary. So if you read the book, you'd spend 5 hours. Have someone explain it to you, who already knew how to read an aviation map, and it took about 10 minutes. Also, the first ones didn't work with the installed navigation HSI. It had it's own LED strip screen where you keep the 'ball' centered. Sort of like the early GPS equipment which came out. Once these came out with the ability to use VOR signals, it was a game changer. Especially when used in conjunction with arcs on approaches, and even to aid you with some NDB approaches at more remote fields on WINDY days. This innovation really aided pilots in staying ahead of the aircraft on approaches. No doubt has saved many lives.

    I've really been enjoying using the KNS-80 in the Cessna 208 because of its 4 waypoints. This thing has 10! so awesome.

    The Analog Baron and Bonanza make me think that Black Square is trying to compete with A2A Simulations. What are your opinions on the simulation of the aircraft as a whole? A good competitor, or needs some work?

  • @A330Driver

    A good competitor for sure! In fact I'd say a really good competitor, there's not a lot missing to reach the level of the A2A stuff.

    What would be even cooler (and perhaps it exists) would be something like this that triangulates from multiple VORs, a bit like how airliners do it to supplement GPS. So you could type in the frequencies for 10-20 VORs in South Germany and it would give you your position on a map. Like an 80s GPS lite.

    Will coupling the autopilot on NAV mode correct itself until there is 0 crosstrack deviation when using the defined RNAV? Or is it purely for situational awareness and unable to provide lateral steering input? Thanks for the tutorial!

    So basically if I am doing a multi engine flight with ifr with these kind of aircraft, I need to look at an airport with a ground based vor which consists of a radial and freq and it's distance from the airport . So like when flying from A to B , after departure does it also fly the airway route to the airport we need to land at .. small request , could also show how to fly the DA62 Greetings from India BTW😊

    6:54 Would that mean the KNS81 is RNAV-1 capable? I mean B-RNAV STARS should be possible but RNAV-1 SIDs without gps and only KNS81? So probably the EDNY ALAGO7E, seems not possible to me, at least I would have no clue how to put the needed waypoints into the KNS81. Would love an answer since I don't use Discord I am unable to ask there

    Can the engines be leaned to the onset of roughness or do they just cut out at some point ? Those engines are going at almost 15 gallons per hour each, ouch, thats certainly not sipping :) i also wonder what would be the lowest rpm one could get away with, maintenance wise. Is this plane turbo equipped ?

  • @kengou

    @kengou

    Жыл бұрын

    I can't answer every question but 15 gallons per hour per engine is typical yes. It is turbocharged. Engine roughness isn't really a thing in MSFS unfortunately, you'll see loss of power and less engine noise associated with that, until the engines just cut off. It's like that in every piston plane.

  • @vedymin1

    @vedymin1

    Жыл бұрын

    @@kengou Im wondering if you could bring them down to around 10 gals with low enough rpm and aggressive enough lop ops ? The fact that this addon (that was an addon to a vanilla plane right, i think ? Its supposed to add alot of system depth, like a reciprocating engine simulation with correct leaning) are you saying that it apparently doesn't simulate the mixture to that level ? That would certainly be a bit of a bummer then...man, i expected something on the level of A2A x)

    Ich habe eine Frage zu einem Beispiel zum Verständnis. Zum Beispiel mit der Navigraph APP Chart: EDDP Leipzig ILS OR LOC Rwy. 08R. Um mit dem KNS-80 RNAV das VOR Schkeuditz Süd 112.15 zu extrapolieren und die Punkte SAHNU, DP441, DP442 und GAMKO zu finden, muss ich als Radial 82 oder die 180 Grad gegenüber mit 262 Grad mit den Entfernungen 20.8, 16.8, 12.8 verwenden? ist das der RNAV Appr Modus? Ich frage so dumm weil immer wenn ich vom VOR GOTEM komme und schalte dann um aufs RNAV Appr. mit 20,8 Distance ist das nicht auf 47 Grad sondern auf 20 (gesetz den Fall ich bin genau drauf) und viel zu weit Nördlich egal ob ich 82 oder 262 radial nehme isses immer falsch. Blöderweise komm ich trotzdem an, denn wenn ich dann mit den normalen NAV1 die ILS Frequenz von der Rwy eindrehe navigiert er zum Inizialpunkt fürn GS, GAMKO wie so ein VOR und wenn er das erreicht hat sinkt er dann auch sinngemäß. Das kann doch nich so sein oder doch und ich benutz ein Black Sqare Flieger🤨

    Unfortunately this feature is currently incomplete. It should work with the NAV mode of the A/P. Tracking the heading bug is not really the way. Sure, it's a limitation - but I am expecting a talented developer to overcome these limitations eventually - just like PMDG and others do by coding a custom system if that's what it takes. I am sure the developer will enhance it when able. The RNAV is one of the most underrated systems, and very rarely - if at all - seen in any flight simulator, and it would be great to have a fully working system, with the A/P NAV mode following it as it would IRL. Amazing video though and very well explained. Thanks for sharing!
