@@totallynotthecia You do know that you don't just GET the throne when you claim it, though, don't you? All the claim throne scheme gets you is a weak claim, which you can use to start a claim war or a claimant faction to overthrow your liege, but you still have to get powerful enough to actually win that war (or be a high intrigue character and kidnap your liege) and powerful enough to keep your new vassals in line, who are often times not so happy with their upstart new ruler with the dubious claim, especially if they are related or allied to the former ruler, who will also be your vassal and absolutely hate you. Also the claim throne scheme only gives you a claim on the lieges main title, not on their domain land. If you try to claim a king's throne as a meager one county vassal, you will often times lose that throne again very quickly. I agree that there are some mechanics to cheese it and that it is easier than it probably should be, but there is a lot more to it than just getting the meritocracy perk and doing a claim throne scheme.

guys i suggest reading about eadgar aetheling, the guy he plays in the beginning, his life was SO CRAZY bro was even in the first crusade and some scholars think he might've been in the varangian guard at one point

I love looking up the history of random minor people and striking gold. Like that Genius guy in the Seljuk empire who was practically the de-facto ruler, or the old Armenian king who fled to Cilicia, who had a feud with the local bishop. The bishop named his dog "Armin" to humiliate Armenians, so he put the dog and the bishop in a sack and started beating, so that the dog gets agitated and mauled the bishop to death. Of course then the Byzantine government killed him as punishment lol.

Note: you had more than 50% of Mercia as a dukedom under your control, so instead of doing the lengthy process of doing scheme you could of just pressed the claim liege title button

A fun fact is that Eadgar was actually voted King of England by the Witenagemot upon Godwinson's death but was never crowned for obvious reasons.

Eadgar was also never King of England either. And he never even tried to be. He paid tribute to William in London after he was crowned and recognized him as the rightful King and the the Witenagemot was quickly disbanded by William. Harold Godwinson was a usurper and died a usurper's death for stealing the throne and William's inheritance. Edward the confessor chose William as his legal successor since he was childless and Harold just wanted the throne for himself. The Witenagemot got what it deserved for constantly opposing their rightful King.

He also didn't take his dethronement lying down. He was involved in at least two major attempts to drive out the Normans. He was the figurehead of a massive rebellion in the Northumbria and then he joined up with an invading Danish army in East Anglia. Edgar didn't bring back Anglo-Saxon England, but it wasn't from lack of trying!

@@defan5732 I hear that and in some cases, especially like Richard III of England, I'd agree, but in the case of Harold Godwinson, the facts plainly speak for themselves in my opinion. William wouldn't have invaded Normandy if he didn't have a legit claim on it in that he was indisputably made heir by Edward the confessor. Nowhere is this ever disputed. And it was rather convenient that a man like Harold Godwinson, who had many struggles with Edward the confessor throughout literally his entire reign, including (I believe) not one but two times was forced into exile because of this, it was rather convenient that this same man (Edward the confessor) would have named Harold his successor just before his death considering their very long and extremely turbulent history. I just don't buy that and never will.

Ahhh Wessex… Edgar of Wessex is actually one of my personal favorites to play. Just imagine what things would’ve been like if Edgar had actually succeeded Edward historically.

If Eadgar succeeded Edward, the norwegians would probably win the battle of stamford bridge, since the reason Harold Godwinson won historically was because he had a larger army than Eadgar aetheling whom had no army at all. So we could see england end up in a three way between Harold Godwinson (whom i doubt would take the invasions lying down even if he wasn't king), harald Hardrade and William.

The murder mystery event is in need of a serious rework in my opinion, For me personally it's always some random courtier who has no reason to want to murder all my family but they do it anyways

Sadly for me,I had a dynasty of 136 people and my heir decided to killed more of ten of my child and grandchildren, he messed up most of my plans that I spend 80 + years on 😢

I did this challenge indirectly. I played as a custom character and had the last Wessex in my court. I married him off to a Rurikid princess and then through intrigue, made him and his descendants monarchs of Russia.

If Norway wins, all AI characters have their titles taken by Harold of Norway. In a previous version of the game, Harold gave me Mercia and Essex but another time he didn’t

That was hands-down one of the best let’s plays I’ve ever seen. Very entertaining

I just tried this, Got the English throne but Eadgar died and my son took over, I was gonna try and take all of Britannia but then my brother immediately started a massive civil war where I had to get France and Hungary to join and save me but then both of them left to join a crusade for Castille 😭

I really love your CK3 videos, you’re the best story telling ck3 KZreadr I’ve seen and I’d say you’re definitely on the same level or even better at story telling than AlzaboHD

@@SnapStrategy The best way to deal with the murder event is actually to just ignore it from the first time. Hunting down the murderer would just continue the event further.

Often times it's better to stay as a count or duke who holds all his Lord's lands the Liege is unable to mess with you and if he does he gets deposed

The hardest thing I’ve done was just five minutes ago… I formed the North Sea empire thingy then the pope called a crusade on me 1hour later I won while I had a independence faction and then 2 peasant factions. Finished the faction (I won ) then I had a claimant faction for my entire empire 3 peasant factions and 2 independence factions. I just gave up :(

Funny thing. Edgar Aetheling actually got close to Robert Curthouse after William I' s death supporting him for Robert's claim to the throne against William Rufus and Henry I.

1066 was a rough time for home team.

Buddy of mine played him in MP. Norway won the Invasion, gave him two(!) huge Dukedoms. After 3 Years the King of Norway died and they just elected him as King. Wasn’t so hard in his run 😂

Dunno man, I tried it too, it was the easiest run of my life, norway won the starter war and gave me the duchy of mercia, after that for some reason i was the first of the line to inherit england, the old chap died pretty soon so at 1076 i was the king of england. Since I acheved the original goal, i don't played it any longer.

much better is to restore Knut the Great's grandson to the english throne, by the ivaring member controlling the isle of Mann, became duke and pass the Tinastry law, you can leave the last knitling as your heir

Actually after Harold’s death Edgar would, for a short while, be king of England. The nobles switched sides quickly and he would try for the rest of his long life (in medieval standards) to reclaim his lost crown.

That event with your kid/heir being the murderer is just an example of how much bullshit this game needs to clean up. HE WAS COMPASSIONATE!!! What is the point of those traits if the game just rolls dice to ignore them anyway?!

In actual history, Earl Eadgar actually was made King of England by the Anglo-Saxon nobles after the death of Harold Godwinson. William eventually displaced him after a few months and the rest is history.
