Reviving My Late Friend's 1967 Dodge Coronet Restoration Project
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On today's episode, we look at a neat car with a somewhat depressing story. My friend Bill was an older guy, with a gruff attitude to match. A retired network and computer technician, he loved to fish, and he loved old Mopars. He liked to check in with us young Mopar nuts at our shop and tell us what we were doing wrong. And, bit by bit, he was restoring this Coronet to be a show worthy driver, before cancer got in the way. Bill is gone, but not forgotten. Time to get his car running again.

That’s a really nice car and I too went through 5 years of Hell with cancer treatments and I’m still alive and I’m still working on my 64 Dodge 440 trying to get all those little things fixed so I can drive it maybe some day.

A great sunny day to tell Bill's story it's crazy how car's bring people together and leave their mark with it.
Sorry to hear about your friend. Nice 67 Coronet when I was younger I had a chance to buy a 67 R/T Coronet and to this day I kick myself for not buying it.
In memory of Bill , didn't know him but ill think of him. Cheers Sir.
Had a 66 Coronet in the late 70's ....got it cheap because the 318 poly had thrown a rod. Took the 383 Magnum and 4spd/posi from a wrecked Super Bee and swapped them in. Don't think it even cost me $600.... the good old days.
6x cancer survivor myself. Yes, it very much sucks...sorry to hear of your friends' passing. As Norm MacDonald said once though - you don't lose to cancer. It dies with you. So that's a tie....🙂 On a more cheerful note, I have managed to bring my own Mopar back from the dead during all the recoveries from this and that medical crap over the years (poorly made videos available on my channel), so there's that I suppose. Anyways, I'm still here and so is Fred the GTX and I guess that counts for something, right? - Ed on the Ridge

I think that counts for a lot, Ed, and I’m glad you’re still here winning with us. Fred sounds awesome! I absolutely love that dark red color too. That has long been my dream paint color for various classic Mopars. My Charger’s repaint is a little lighter, but it’s supposed to be a darker shade similar to that, and will be again some day if I have my way. Anyway, thanks for being here.
Kudos to Bill for doing what he did to that car. One of the best designs to come from Detroit. Had 67 500. Great car. Cancerous suck. Lost my best man to it.
Beautiful car Bill had, sorry to hear of his passing.
I had a green 2 door 67 383. 2 barrel dark green really nice shape in around 1986..it was a coronet 440 model also there beautiful cars
Drove one just like this one all through high school.
There was one in the family way back sans the 440 badge. It was gold with black interior. As a kid I admired the styling.
I can't believe I missed this video previously. I love 66-67 coronets. Thanks for sharing this jewel with us. This and the black one you also showed would be such a nice pair to have side by side in the garage.
Wow - takes me back..my first car was a ‘67 Coronet 440 hardtop - 318 automatic, but light yellow with a black interior. Had to fix major rust and paint it in ‘75 - called every wrecking yard in the Buffalo and Rochester NY Yellow Pages (you youngin’s have no idea…) looking for front fenders and found three. Put Magnums and white walls on it after the paint was done. God, I loved that car - still have the left over front fender, all the trim and the Magnums in my loft. For the next one…

Well, I'm only 10 months behind seeing this. I think it's a nice looking Coronet! I hope Bill enjoyed it.
Another great video DDG! I had the Plymouth version of this one, same color but a 383 two barrel , sold it to buy my first house. I need to find another.
I fell for the "Just adjust the slop out of the box" thing once too. Had the same effect.

You are the Doctor for any Mopar I would own.

It reminds me of the Coronet 440 my parents had when I was a child. Same color, body style and 440 trim level. Our car had the 273 V8, automatic transmission, but no factory air.

Beautiful car! The 67’ coronet RT has always been one of my faves. 370hp is a really stout 318 by the way! I hope you never have to have that experience we're glad to see you keeping them all part legends alive and I know my brother 1st car was a 67 Orange Dodge Stephen so that's exactly why I started watching your channel Which in today's world would probably get him called a racist because when he bought it someone had painted a competitor flag on the top of it which one of the cool reasons he bought it but I remember him having it when I was I think 4 or 7 years old because he gave me a set of keys to it and 20 years later when I finished my 67 tomorrow as far as I could before he died unexpectedly I gave him a set of keys to it and I told him I said it's as much yours as it is mine because I wouldn't have it without you because you're the guy that helped me build it so I know what family and cars can mean so that's what I said about you possibly selling it back to his daughter even if his widow won't Let you or does Eventually she'll want and I'm sure even if they don't want it right now they will forget selling it if I sell it to anyone but you because they won't be able to get it back trust me I know

I think this comment got lost in the ether.
I lost my dad to renal cancer and inherited the one new car he ever bought, a 66 Coronet 500 SE crew cab with a 273. I rebuilt it with stock, flat top Egge pistons and a mild Isky cam. The pistons suck because they are low in the deck. Runs great but compression sucks. I'm contemplating blowing it apart again and installing high compression pistons. I still run a stock 2bbl but I have a factory 273 4bbl intake on standby as soon as I find a decent AFB with the small throttle plates. Pertronix replaced points and that helped compensate for a worn distributor shaft bushing. I'd be happy with 250 hp vs the 200 it has.
@DeadDodgeGarage

I am planning a ridiculous 273 build, and have not found the numbers people get from them terribly inspiring. My hope is to get all kinds of RPMs out of a small block. I’m not too concerned with the power rating - more the fun and the exercise.

I had a '67 Formula S fastback with a 273/235 - 727 out of a Duster with 3.23's , factory dual points, a bear to keep in tune(solid lifter motor) but it would rev to 6000 all day and was scared of nobody's 340. Couldn't guarantee its accuracy, but I saw the needle solidly on 120 the only foolish time i ran it on top end in my ownership of the car ( I raced a New Yorker with a 440 and all he saw was tail lights).

@DeadDodgeGarage

There are a lot of factors that can contribute to that. If your engine is worn you might want to start with a compression check. Look for even cylinder temperature in the exhaust manifolds. Vacuum leaks… worn ignition components leading to misfires. Lots of possibilities.

The factory adjustment procedure on the steering gear box shouldn't be followed. Overtigten the screw on the nut on the top a bit to get the output shaft gear tight into the worm gear. Then tighten the giant nut on the end of the steering box to take the play out. Then loosen the screw and locknut on the top.
