It's not even that they find you. in SotF they literally spawn near you. In The Forest they had fixed spawn locations, and would then patrol around set routes. So they basically went from realistic enemy patrols around the island to "eh, just spawn some mutants around the player."

it's mental. I played the forest on PS4 3 years back? Me and some friends had a save we spent days building on. We had a gigantic walled base built around our smaller orignal base, a fully fortified beach, a zipline to an emergency base, treehouses, farms etc. We had all the secret buildings up including the giant glider tower too. With the church blueprint we thought it would be funny to build them in totally oposite locations, so we have a snow church built on a little lake, a water church built in the sea somehow, and plans for a mountain church. My friend also built a giant hotel deep in the forest. In the end we had exausted so many possibilites we decided to build a giant warehouse to store every log in the game. I went to load it up one day around that time and noticed the loading time was longer than usual. When it finally loaded, I am thrown into a 1fps slideshow with intense motion blur rendering it completely unplayable. I frantically reloaded - nothing, restarted the game - nothing...just like that 100 hours gone. With that, our little group gave up on the game. I remember it being capped to 4 players on PS4 but in total I think about 6 of us visited overall. Of the 5, I only speak to one of them now and regretably left on bad terms with 2. It lived in my mind as a little snapshot of such a relaxed and care-free time I'd never see again. Anyway I thought I'd boot it up again. See if I could maybe salvage some screenshots as it had randomly popped into my mind one day. I hadn't even touched my PS4 since so had to get ps+ again just to gain access. I load the game and boom...I'm in...no lag, no stutters - a perfectly playable framerate. I had a look around, explored old memories. It was this weird mix between heartwarming nostalgia and a cold eeriness as it almost felt wrong to be back, like I was intruding. It's only been 3 years. I can't imagine the strange sensation we'll have exploring decade old worlds provided we still have a way to access them. Anyway... back to reality XD

I went to my old savefile last month too. My save is basically an empire. 5 big bases on the four ends of the map and one in the center. Every pond with fish has a treehouse with a dry rack and water collector and a bonfire and bed. Everything connected by rock roads and lights to guidepost at night. Without the map i can tell exactly where i am and get to food or safety. 3 trap filled forests to play with the enemy and huge graveyards replete with effigies all over the place. The fps cant handle that beastly empire ive created in 500 hours of gameplay.

I think one thing I really miss about The Forest is the fact that it was more about the survival craft element. I remember starting the game and crafting clubs, arrows, stick bags (etc). In Sons of the Forest, the crafting system becomes unnecessary as little as an hour into gameplay bc you can just find everything you need. I'm not a big fan of the gun focused gameplay either. I think it really takes away from the whole experience.

The enemies in the forest move, sound and ‘come across’ much less human/civilised which is definitely a plus for the horror element of the game. The red guy in sotf for example just looks like a regular beer gut guy painted red lol. The cannibal camps in both games are good as well but the forest defiantly has greater uniqueness and size with those tall triangle buildings for eg.

watching this video and remembering my forest playthrough reminds me why sons of the forest is in early access, its missing so many things, especially the building seems to have taken a step back in terms of freedom, can't wait for the game to get out of early access, me and my friends have already played quite a lot, we're just waiting on full release or maybe more features and polishing to play again.

what i'd LOVE is for the hides to become useful again, i MISS the old bags you could make and it would be amazing if you could carry 2+ cooking pots with one and for all the buildables to be ported to sotf

oh daaaaayyyngg!!! The flashbacks im getting!! Endnight should definatly bring back a bunch of buildables from the forest to SotF. Like weapon holders and such. Been missing them from launch already. Even though there is something simular(ish) i miss the deadfall- , noose- and happy birthday traps. Spear cannon is kinda useless. muddys crawl to low and canniball just barge right through em without setting em off half the time..not to mention the thing misses 99% of time. Found the other day you can still make floating structures using the roof method and like you mentioned in another vid stonewall textures/sections look TOO repeated when building long/high walls..but wont have that to much when you every now and then start a section from oppisite side like left to right , right left.. AND/OR dont use pillars every section..just the "filler" .(thought id mention cuz that bugged me too) Did you see that canniball with the deformed face already? kinda looks like the elephantman LOL. - edit : never saw it mentioned anywhere like charging and fire cannibal -. anyways keep up the great vids.greetings from netherlands

Did you know in the cave, approx 6mins in, with the ropes, flares, dynamite and cloth… if you use dynamite to open the crates you get double of everything 😊 As a ps4 player still playing this game, this was an awesome video to look back on what you did 👍

This video gave me heavy nostalgia of the countless hours I spent on this game. I'm going to have to revist it for sure! I feel like sons of the forest is missing alot of the elements that made the forest so amazing, sure its got its moments too. But it doesnt even compare in so many ways to the first game. I loved the building in the first game its pretty much all i did, It was more free form and creative and alot less limited. Sons of the forest takes everything to a more realistic level, which again is nice and all but not why i played the forest. Thanks for the amazing video as always and making some really good points about the games.

Having played and loved both games, I’ve gotta say I prefer Sons of the Forest and am very excited to see what the game has to offer upon full release. The graphics upgrades are great, the more realistic building keeps me immersed and makes me feel more attached to what I’m building, and the map upgrades (Larger size and it feels more alive) are fantastic. If you like the Forest more that’s fine, but I think Sons is a huge step in the right direction. Don’t forget, it’s still in early access so features will be missing and things will need to be rebalanced. Good video though!

I've gone back to playing The Forest for the foreseeable. I don't know what it is, Sons just isn't scratching that itch for me. The cannibals doing new things is cool and that, but they're not scary like in the first version, they're just an annoyance. Building system is way less fun/custom blueprints, when you get good at them, give you SO much more creative freedom, and just the overall vibe of the game is completely different... I mean, it's their game, they can take it in whichever direction they want, it's just miles away from what I thought a sequel to The Forest would actually be. I love in the first game how we're literally just dumped in this place, alone, and we have to figure it out. In Sons, we've got Kelvin, Virginia (I know we don't have to use them, but still...), the Kight V, golf carts, even a freaking 3D printer! I guess what I'm saying is that I feel like a lot of that survival, will I make it though the night element is missing for me. Eh, I might go back to Sons in a year or so, but for now, I'm more than happy playing The Forest again.

I personally enjoy all the animations and single-placement stuff in Sons of the Forest. It immerses me more cuz muh realism. Also the way I see it, there is still a chance that Endnight will add more buildings and features from The Forest. Sons of the Forest is still in early access after all and will probably stay that way for some time still

I do miss some of the old features from the forest. Like the pull up tower which could act as an elevator. I mist the old slingshot. so much easier to aim. there is definately other things too like the flare pistol, the old flintlock pistol. the catapult. But yeah some old things to cherish but a lot to appriciate with the new system too.

Could this be the final goodbye to The Forest games from Farket? What a beautiful run it has been, but I surely hope that Farket will find a way to a happier place again. The struggle has been so eminent in the last year or so to find the passion and motivation for a game series he has breathed life into for so long. Thank you, Farket, no matter where you're at❤

First game was much scarier. Going into a huge cave alone with just a lighter or torch my heart would beat so fast. In sons of the forest, I have no fear inside the caves. I think the main problem (for me) in the second game is the caves. They are much smaller and they are not interconnected like in the first one. I would get lost for days inside the caves. Or try to go somewhere, exit at the wrong place and have to go back. You can't really get lost in sons of the forest. Although the new enemies are amazing and did scare me when I first encountered them, after a while the sense of danger is lost
