That would be a good premise to revisit now that none of the old constraints apply. All I see are flat ground, 90 degree angles and tiled textures everywhere - nothing like a trip or a dream. I feel like a procedural open world LSD sequel/remake would be a hit today.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure LSD: Dream Emulator and LSD were entirely different games that just happened to have similar titles and be from a similar era. If you want to see LSD: Dream Emulator, PeanutButterGamer did a review of it a while back, and (while both are safely among the weirdest games I've ever seen) it is a very different and unique experience from just plain ol' LSD. Cannot speak to either of their accuracies to the drug.

So as I was watching this on my phone, my niece thought it was a video call and and staring making faces at them . I busted out laughing,the grumps were laughing so she started cracking up

Osamu Sato, the creator of LSD for Playstation, has composed experimental music since the early 80's. For LSD, he said he set out to make an art piece rather than a traditional videogame -- a 100% unique and 100% accessible experience -- choosing the title LSD to turn heads. He said he wanted to "shout out" the psychedelic movement, as its mood would complement all the bizarre visuals and sounds. Sato released a fully-remixed edition of LSD's soundtrack in 2018, which is wicked sweet, and his 2020 album _Grateful in All Things_ just totally rips shit. Check out his stuff if you like unusual synth music!

If he got the idea of warping from area to area in LSD from crashing in racing games, I'd say he fairly replicated how I sometimes transition from place to place in my dreams on a few occasions. I touch/interact with an object/thing and everything turns white and I find myself in another place and time in the dream I'm having. It rarely happens, but it does. Most of the time it's usually a seamless transition from place to place.

@@r.j.penfold I think they do in fact happen to be doing a reunion tour, so the grumps drew two lines together to make the funny name based off of the coincidence of both COVID and the reunion tour happening

These compilations make me sorta miss the "pick a game off the shelf days." There was some real gems in those one off episodes!

Totally Rad was SUCH a good episode. Dan-Jake. The weird reliance on a magician for no reason. Healing made you pose triumphantly. And the Totally Rad animated by RyanStorm. Top notch.

41:32 I'd just like to correct what Arin said here. While the name LSD does come from the drug, the concept of the game itself is entirely different. The creator, Osamu Sato, wanted to make what was more of an art peice rather than a game, that replicated the feeling of dreaming. To help him create it he actually referenced a decade-old dream journal kept by a game designer at the company that released the game. Sorry to be nit-picky 😅

Bonk was definitely trying to be weird, though. You can’t tell me the creators decided to have a dinosaur sneeze a guy to the moon and didn’t think there was anything weird or extremely silly about that.

17:08 - The way Dan describes the Troll game at the end there could also be applied to clowns: someone clearly thinks it's charming and silly but instead it just comes out as this frigthening, ghoulish nightmare that won't stop getting in your face.

Also, without having read any of the previous comments (sorry, there's a lot), I'm sure I can't be the only one who thinks the Grumps should give Totally Rad a second shot and actually learn how to use the transformation spells, can I? I remember playing that game as a kid and using the spells was one of the best parts.

Gubble! Aww, my darling Gubble, I miss it. I was a little kid on the PS2 trying and trying to beat it. The colors and animation were so creepy to me and the levels were difficult. I remember hoping that I would learn more about the character if I kept practicing but I just never improved. At the time, I ABSOLUTELY thought it was weird on purpose: trying to be mysterious and odd and complex. But looking at game footage now that I'm older... it was probably just a silly puzzle game for fun.

Oh yeah, full Bonk playthrough? Definitely yes to that.

I loved Gubble as a kid, and then later in my twenties. The first stages are stupidly easy, but later it gets more complex. It feels like one of those weird mobile games where it's all about doing weird tasks and getting into a rhythm. Gubble is very relaxing xD. It's like OCD medicine. It's just satisfying.

I was not expecting such a scholarly analysis of video game weirdness. This will be a great reference for my thesis.

I've watched Game Grumps for years and have seen every episode of the power hour and I've only now noticed how massively impressive Dan's chin is.
