Reviewing the Chicago Electric 18 Gauge, 3.5 amp Metal Shear from Harbor Freight
Ғылым және технология
This time at the Quick Speed Shop I am doing an unboxing and review of the Chicago Electric 18 ga. sheet metal shear from Harbor Freight. I was in a bind and had to cut some tin quick so I picked this unit up for $36. Let's see how it works...
Please like, share, and subscribe. I put out new videos every Wednesday and Saturday.

Great video! I never would have expected that Harbor Fright shear to work that well!
Thanks for doing that review...it may help a lot of people! I liked the way you went through the blade adjustment before using the tool! Smart! The performance of the tool could have been affected by the cutter being out of spec! Be safe!
Cut so easy, worth $36. Thanks for the review
Great video review. Looks perfect for hobbyist junk art I do!
Awesome tool review action today. Thanks for the video
Impressive cheap tool, I'll probably pick one up next time I go there. Nice hands on review !
You just saved me the trouble of testing one out. Thanks for the review! I'm always cutting stuff out with my grinder w/cut off wheels, something like that would be ideal for cutting out patches when doing body work. Really enjoying your channel, keep up the good work!

Thanks. Not a fan of cheap HF power tools, but for the few times I used this it worked good enough.
Very good review -- THANKS!
Nice review. This is gonna save me a few bucks.
Thanks for the review! Unless your a 6 man high production shop, Harbor Frieght tools are cost effective. I have done business with Eric's company since 1979!
Seems clean. My instincts would have pointed me toward an angle grinder or maybe a jigsaw with lots of little teeth if I needed to cut different angles. Maybe I have an excuse to get another power tool. Thanks.
Exelent tool!.
They use the same motor and body for a whole series of tools. It would be great if they sold different head assemblies for different jobs to be used on the one body. I guess they make more by doing it the way they do. For around the house jobs, you can't beat their oscillating tool and the many heads/blades you can get.
I need to cut corrugated galvanized roofing tin.. most shears work ok on flat metal so this didn't apply for my use..but overall good video.. you could zoom in more on what you're doing so we can see a little better.. but the sound quality and volume was great!! Thanx.
USA a straight edge to guide nibbler....would you use a circular saw cutting sheet plywood without a straight edge
Sweet intro, man!

The right side of the tool at the front has flat vertical sides. I wonder if cut guides couldn't be used to make straighter cuts. I like Made in China tools. They should come with up to twelve uses and a 90-day warranty, whichever comes first.
I'm not totally clear on the blade adjustment. If you are adjusting the gap between the fixed base blade and the moving jaw blade, you can do that with the base blade adjustment only. What does the upper moving jaw adjustment control?

Not sure. Haven't adjusted it since this video was made
Looks to make better curved cuts than str8
Thank you for the review. I can't help but wonder why not clamps and a jig for the long straight cut, masons and carpenters use that method with perfect results. Just sayin', not a criticism.

Yes you could do that if you want.
woudl is the metal gauge of a standard 55 gsllon steel drum and would 14 gauge electric shears cut it?
@QuickSpeedShop
Жыл бұрын
Not sure on the drum. I'm going to guess it's 16 ga.
I LOVE that metal shear. I’m sad that you cannot get replacement blades.

I think you can from Harbor Freight
so does it make cuts in a straight liine well? without messing the edge?
@QuickSpeedShop

It will cut as straight as you can hold it or follow a straight line.
I need a tool to cut 26 gauge steel soffit. Will it cut metal that has 1/2" height variation?
@QuickSpeedShop

This is really meant for flat sheet metal. It will cut 26 ga no problem.
What brand of Air Shears do recommend for cutting duct work and sheet metal for residential?

I have used Ingersol-Rand and Harbor Freight shears to cut up to 16 ga.
Up to date... Have you seen any wear on the blades? Is it a long lasting tool? Thanks!

It has stayed sharp for me, but I don't use it that often.
Proper blade and a jig saw would work well too. You can set up a straight edge and get a very straight line. Or use a circular saw with metal blade. More accurate, I think,

You can cut sheet metal with many different tools. This is a review on this particular shear.
how tight of a curve could i get out of this tool? will this thing turn on a dime? just curious before i go out and buy it, thanks for your video.

Not sure how small a circle you could cut, but in 20 or 22 ga metal I bet you could cut maybe a 3 inch circle. It's pretty maneuverable
but i liked it. decent video.
I wonder how it will work on corrugated or wavy metal?
@QuickSpeedShop

It only cuts flat metal
Will it cut r-panel or gutters or other non-flat material?

Only cuts flat sheet metal
Why didn't you clamp down some kind of straightedge to guide that thing?
@QuickSpeedShop
3 жыл бұрын
You could do that if you need a perfect cut.

Will it cut to the edge of a window or door frame? There has to be a better way than routering.

@@QuickSpeedShop I'm cutting sheet metal out of a frame, will it cut to the frame without going over?
@QuickSpeedShop

It's not really meant for that. The shoe won't allow you to get close to the edge of framework
Is the edge sharp afterward?

Can you cut 1090 steel with this?

I don't know what 1090 is. Its for mild steel sheet.
@toyhawker
Жыл бұрын
@@QuickSpeedShop 1090 - 10 means common steel as opposed to an alloy, 90 is the carbon content. Pretty high. Most big box store steel is 1020.
can that thing cut a nice circle ... 3 inch radius ?

I haven't tried to cut a tight circle. Usually something that small I'll just use a hole saw.

Wold you recommend this to trim fenders?

It's only made to trim flat metal. You'd be better cutting fenders with a cutoff wheel.

Can you tell us again what this is and where you bought it? I'm sorry, I didn't have a pen, can you repeat that? This pen is out of ink, hang on. Ok, I'm ready now if you can repeat that. Oh. I don't have any paper, hang on. Ok, I'm ready...

I missed the part where you were standing there next to me with a decibel meter verifying that I needed protection. I wear hearing protection when I deem it necessary, and I don't think for the short time I ran the tool it was necessary.
less talk! more cuttin bruh!
Need to cut out a portion of a quarter panel, at a junkyard where they don't allow angle grinder cut-off wheels. Would a cordless unit like this work or should I try a cordless sawsall?

People love dollar store by made in china cheap stuff and talk bad about Quality which chinise sold to whole sellers for 15 cents a piece , whole seller to shop for 50 cent a pice and they sell for a dollar , what Qualitu chinise can give you from china on 15 cent a pice ?
