@@BallyBoy95 Agreed, at best it was some mindless fun in 2 player mode. Hideous game with a boring gameplay loop and a complete lack of plot (until the very end when they shoe in Voldemort's return). OOTP was a huge step back in the right direction and i've heard HBP was decent too, never played DH.

To be fair goblet of fire in the movie felt like chapter of a book where there's three task and riddles to complete these tasks I think that's why the PS2 game version is like that. I know it's different from the first three games but goblet of fire is like that.

My friend had Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on PC when it came out and it felt exactly like Hogwarts Legacy when It came out. It was so like playing the movie (or book) and it didn't felt like a movie cash grab game. Exploring Hogwarts was so fun. I'm so happy Hogwarts Legacy exist bringing back that "magic" once again!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on PC was great but it was a mission based level to level format with the occasional stage that lets you roam around hogwarts. They really improved with Chamber of Secrets PC and Prisoner of Azkaban PC though giving the player complete open world freedom design to explore like the GameCube/PS2/Xbox console versions did. My favorite thing about the first 3 games on PC is that it was more designed like a Platformer like Mario with spells basically lol PS1 games too, kinda wanna revisit the old ps1 games now lol Bonus points to GameCube/PS2/Xbox versions to have a full 3D model to fly around on a Broom at the time.

I grew up on HP1 and didn't even get into HP2, though this one is decent. I tried HP4 and some others and hated them instantly. It's all about what you know or feel to be good, and what you have to compare against. If you only ever played HP4, then it might have seemed like a good game. It's only when you play much better games that you see that HP4 is not good. HP1, HP2, HP3, and Hogwarts are clearly the best overall. I think HP1. Even HP3 itself is not quite as strong due to failures in certain areas. HP2 has its own issues, and HP1 naturally has issues, being the first and so early (dev in about 2000). The rest are only good for certain elements. LEGO Harry Potter was pretty good, too -- but not as good as I wanted. By the mid-2000s, there were so many HP-like games that were far better that nobody cared about the rest of the HP games. People had moved on and were not even playing that genre/style as much, or single-player (multiplayer was now the biggest format).

Prisoner and Order are the GOATs. For main movie tie in games. Prisoner was so fun to play and I occasionally just plug in my ps2 and play it when I really want to revisit it. Same with Order. The change in magic use with the stick was such a cool innovation at the time that I still kinda want to see what that would be like in game made today. Combined with getting more powerful the more of the secrets you find just mean you could blast through enemies pretty early on. I do wish there was a better way to do free duels though.

Great video! I hope you will return to the Harry Potter franchise again in future and try to play and compare different versions of the same games, because they're completely different, separate games, not ports. Just Harry Potter 1 has about 5 different versions made by different developers: PC/Mac by Knowwonder, PSX by Argonaut, PS2/Xbox/Gamecube by Warthog, Gameboy Color by Griptonite and Gameboy Advance by also Griptonite. They have different gameplay, graphics and narrative. Playing them in the order and by the platform also shows how different developers perfected their formula with sequels. The games become more similar with HP4 but their portable versions still differ from main platforms.

I remember liking order of the phoenix a lot as well for ps2. Movie games usually get a bad rep, but those early ones were genuinely good games for the time and were a far cry from the soulless cash grab the game series would become near the end.

For Chamber of Secrets, I recommend the GameCube Version. It’s my favorite and I got it to work on the Dolphin emulator very easily. It’s similar to Philosopher’s Stone and Prisoner of Azkaban for PS2/Xbox/GC, but it’s very charming, and I feel it’s less buggy than the PS2 version. Also, less stealth sections (no idea why they added some in the PS2, probably for padding?)

What a great series to look at! I mean, EA tried hard to keep up with the cadence of the movies that they so obviously took dives in certain years to rejigger their formula every once in awhile, even when passing it off to different EA studios - the most obvious example probably being when they took their "off year" for Goblet of Fire so they could give an extra year to "Order of the Phoenix." I mean, it's inevitable - I doubt ANY publisher could've done any better. It's legitimately interesting to see how they handled it, and I guess it's Warner Bros' turn now... though they have the advantage of NOT having to try to keep up with the movie releases. The original games modeled after 3D Zelda titles/Beyond Good & Evil/Okami were definitely the best though. I got a modded Xbox two years ago and actually played through Prisoner of Azkaban on Xbox again - still a really fun play! And I do really like those old, cartoony stylized graphics. I'm sure you received this comment already, but I really wish you took at least a glance at the Game Boy Color and GBA games. There were a few interesting and genuinely good Harry Potter games, mostly because they were modeled after solid RPGs - the GBA version of Prisoner of Azkaban was even inspired by Golden Sun (very obvious when you look at the battles). They were all fun little RPGs and action-RPGs produced by solid handheld specialist studios like Torus, but I doubt they could support a video on their own like the LEGO games and Hogwart's Legacy. If you get the chance, it would be neat to see you cover them though.

There are three versions of Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone and the chamber of secrets: ps1, ps2 and pc. Each game was made by a different developer and oddly enough I like certain versions over others. For example the definitive version of sorcerers stone is the ps2 version, but second best is the pc version. Chamber of secrets I like pc so far as it is the one I grew up with, but even though I have the ps2 version I haven’t played through it yet. Azkaban I haven’t tried ps2 yet, but pc I have played and love it. Goblet of Fire and the deathly hallows games were soulless cash grabs though.

9 franchise games in 10 years is crazy... that's like the old style of game dev. nowadays it's 2 franchise games in 10 years, and maybe a remaster five years after that😂

Not being open world, and following an already existing book + movie series made it a lot easier I guess. Licensed IP games are so, SO rare nowadays, while a good 1-1.5 decade ago we had licensed everything! Recently found out that the there was a Price is Right, Hell's Kitchen and Grey's Anatomy games lol

@@adam-vm3zj Yeah the games were also rushed you can tell especially with the first 3 games depending on versions like how the ps2 versions were more buggy then the GameCube and Xbox because of time restraints.

1st game is awesome on PC but from the 2nd game to till the last I played on PS1 and PS2 but and about Hogwarts Legacy the only thing I hate about it that it's not cannon to the series like the mobile game magic awakening is cannon it takes place after the main series and other characters actually appear in it , yes in Hogwarts Legacy there are still characters who are related to the series like the Weasly family we got 2 of them in the game but it still feel like a spin off but it's an awesome game

I know it's very unpopular but I vastly prefer the older games to Hogwarts Legacy. I'm probably way too attached to the OG characters and timeline so that's likely it. I simply don't want to play as myself in the 1800s.
