Guys, I have bought Adrien's preset, I am loving it. I have the VSTs and other presets. But I feel Adrien's is the best in terms of simple 4 presets of what you need Vs the load of presets choices, pretty much you can use in any covers.

@@antioquia0 Euros are written with a comma to denote decimals instead of a period. So 25,00 Euros is roughly 27.39 in U.S. dollars.

I had be studying various Roland modules, 2Box; Pearl Mimic being out of the price range and limited. Manuals, videos & commentary revealed bare minimum. This is by FAR the best vid I've seen showing the COMPLETE editing function of the TD-27, so much so I cemented a deal on a module seconds after viewing! Much thanks to Adrien Drums and of course to Roland. (I am not a paid spokesman)

I 100% agree with Adrien here the TD-27 is pretty sweet. I have SD3 and don't use it anymore since I got the 27. I am not a hardcore recording guy but man you can get some nice sounds out of this. I really like that I don't have to use SD3 anymore. Just another thing I don't need to worry about. Great video thank you!

The biggest difference is that the Gen II set include the VH-14D high hat, which in my opinion is a dramatic difference. This high hate upgrade alone in Canada is around $1500. They open and close like a normal functioning high hat, and at $100 more for this set over Gen I is worth every penny plus more! I May bite the Bullet and get the TD-27KV2 this moment hahaha

Coming from an Alesis strike. The td27 is the best players kit I’ve ever played. I reduced the learning curve by getting a sound pack from eDrum workshop. It sounded great tweaked a little bit and I have my go to kit. Great stuff. Once Roland starts using sample libraries like Pearl mimic. It’s game over.

J'ai passé 1 mois à explorer les différents kits existants, très riches, mais je dois dire que la création de mon premier kit avec le réglage de "mes sons" ça m'a fait passé un nouveau step en termes de confort de jeu. Là j'ai vraiment les sons que j'adore au casque. J'espère que ça rendra aussi bien sur le Roland PM-200 que je viens de commander (ou que ça ne s'en éloignera pas trop). I started editing a real personalized kit, it's great. I spent 1 month exploring the different existing kits, very rich, but I must say that the creation of my first kit with the adjustment of "my sounds" it took me a new step in terms of playing comfort. I really have the sounds that I love with headphones. I hope it will look just as good on the Roland PM-200 I just ordered (or that it won't stray too far from it).

But seing what you can actually do with this, I will now thake the leap and finally replace my old TD-9 with this module. Even though I will have a long way to go and a lot to learn then...

Seems like the presets were meant to go into pro situations, through studio compressors, reverb etc. But on their own, the snares and Tom's dont cut it, I compressed the one good sounding snare, selected the plugged Tom's mostly. I still dont think any of the sounds are pure samples, which is why you can tweak these so much, it's all editable zeros and ones down to the oscillator level. I haven't been able to get a good 6 and 8 inch tom sound. Theres really only a couple of acoustic tom sounds tweaked by the settings to make all the alleged different acoustic tom presets.

Your such a good drummer. Love your work! I personally will probably stick to acoustic kits but I still watched this just to hear your drumming 😂 keep it up man

Hi Adrien, your TD27 sounds amazing! In another Video you compared the TD-27 and the TD-50. Now we have the TD-50X. Did you have the opportunity to check the updated version? Is the TD27 still in the same class in your opinion?

Adrien, great stuff, plus you're a great drummer. Question, can we still purchase your samples? i tried but i can't access your website.

I've seen you comment that the dynamic range especially, is better than VST's. For me it's been the exact opposite. I haven't used the newer modules, but a TD-11, 25 and 12. All three of these did not give me anywhere near the same dynamic range as EZDrummer for instance. I'd imagine SD3 would be even better. You may be right with the TD-50/27 but i really didn't like the dynamic response on the older Roland modules.

Thanks for your insights. Well, It can't really be the opposite.... If it is, you might want to check out the settings of your drum module. I have own the TD 9, TD 12, I still own the TD 25 and TD 11 so I know them, the sound is a bit old school but the dynamics should be great. The TD 17, TD 27 and TD 50 are completely different, the whole engine as been improved so it's a whole other world. AND the fact that they have now digital pads brings it to an unmatched level of dynamic and expression. THO, I'm not saying vsts are bad, SSD5 is great, SD3 is great, tho it requires a strong computer. And man, by no means I'm trying to encourage you to NOT use VST, especially if you like them. What I'm trying to say is that, now Roland has got some really strong drum module, and I think people are using 20% out of it and switch immediately to VST, and what I'm trying to do, is to help you guys understand how you can stick with your drum module, taking advantage of the great dynamic range + helping improving the out of the box sound to reach your personal tastes. Because to me, the feeling is way more accurate out of the drum module, going trough VST will make you loose no just dynamics but some playability. But at the end of day, you should play what makes you happy man :)

Thanks so much for the excellent video! I am loving this kit. I am comfortably porting multitrack audio to my DAW but would like to mimic the setup of having an overhead channel and a room channel. Is it possible to use, say, the master output as the room mic and the direct as the overheads? Have you addressed that anywhere and if not, that would be a great thing to post. Hm good question, I would say that if you wanna do it you can, but you will have first to withdraw all the pads from the master out because they are natively all going through it.

Thanks buddy ! Hm that's a good question. I would first disable the room, and reduce the send into the overheads. Then I would adjust maybe the muffling, and adapt the eq and transient if needed. But that would totally depend on the kit.

Hey @Adrien So does that mean that you can do all the equalization and mastering inside the module getting rid of doing all the work inside the DAW?

It’s a great video and walkthrough of settings , thanks brother . Couple of questions 1) what is the splash cymbal you use , it sounds great 2) do you suggest any good PA as I always have challenge in getting a better sound in PA, compare to headphones I have Roland 550 amp, it’s not great ,3) can you please release a video for live sound settings as TD 27 doesn’t have the individual output as like TD50, it’s difficult to get the right mix to house mix .

Thanks man. I use a CY 5 with a war medium thin splash sound. 2) PA is a tough subject, you will have to invest in 2 speakers 200w + a subwoofer to get the full experience, I tested Yamaha, it was great, but I have been told about QCS. What's you issue for a live configuration ? Did you know that you could send unedited sounds to the direct out ?

I have experienced always challenge in taking the right mix to house mix and he complains that he cannot control much, This was the case with TD15. Couple of requests 1) Can you please host a video to walkthrough the settings to follow when we use the kit for live music with house mix using TD 27 2) Can you please share a video on how you are post processing your drum mix in logic for your cover, Any guidance to make this process easy.

Down the road , If you could plan a detailed walkthrough of multi track recording right from scratch assigning it to each pad to mixing it in logic and balancing for a cover , would be a bonus . Additionally , focused tips on the hit hat setup VH 10 or VH 11. OR right settings for PA live mix vs the live recording etc.. I don’t think we have a proper videos for these . Hi adrian, I have a question for you. If I don't want to use the usb ride cymbal (18") and the usb snare (14"), the snake cables have ride and snare options to connect simple pads? Thanks and greetings.

I really look forward to checking out the TD-27 soon, but I'm still _very_ skeptical whether it can keep up with a good VST like Superior Drummer 3, to be honest. Currently, I'm using a TD-11 with SD3 and... well, with good sensitivity settings for your triggers, I really don't see any issue with the dynamics in SD3. Quite the opposite. Honestly: Anybody looking for a realistic acoustic sound with their older Roland modules should probably just get a good VST going and spend the time to get the triggering right. The one thing that still sounds off to me with every Roland module demo I've heard so far is that the toms still tend to do some machine-gunning every now and then... and the cymbal sounds seem very harsh, but that's something I'll check out when I get my TD-27 myself, might just be a wrong impression there. But from what I've seen so far in demos I would probably try to get the Roland module's digital snare and perhaps ride integrated into an otherwise VST driven setup for toms and cymbals.

@@stephenhughes5156 Yes, my current setup includes a TD-27 with the digital snare and ride. I still use Superior Drummer 3, though. Honestly, the Roland presets are decent enough for a bit of practice and some of them are fun, but for actual drumming and getting the best sound, SD3 is just miles ahead. Yes, the the positional sensing on the snare is more accurate with the TD-27 itself and, AFAIK, there is no positional sensing support in SD3 for the ride cymbal, but the sound in SD3 is just so much better that I have to make that trade. Otherwise, I have absolutely no triggering issues.

Thank you for this video! Personally, ive had a really hard times with vst. Ive tried AD2, SSD5.5 and EZD2, and ive had to many issues with all of them. For start, neither of them offers 2 zones for the crashes, which is really frustrating for me. Second, I couldnt make ghost notes at all. When i hit the drum softly, i just got the same sound but with low volume, and not really a ghost note. Moreover, the cymbals always were louder than the drums, setting up the hi hat was a pain in the a**, and positional sensing dudnt work at all... Yes, the sounds in general were better, but it was just unplayable for me. And im not even talking about the latency....

Man, you said everything ! I still use samples when I record cover because it allow me to choose snare and tom sounds that fits perfectly the song, but I never use sample when practicing !

I think that goes for a lot of the VST's that aren't necessarily meant to be played with edrums. SD3 however has the most advanced editing capabilites for the digital snare and hihat in particular. It allows you to tweak positional sensing, hi hat ranges and so on. I think that if you dial that in perfectly, you're gonna get a great experience since the program is meant to be played with edrums as well as being a drum VST for music production. Strictly for practicing, the 0 delay and response of a drum module that sounds "decent" is probably the way to go but a great responding VST or a module like the pearl mimic, will still give you a fantastic experience.

I will try SD3, but one advantage that Roland has that I don't think is replicable on SD3 si the multizone digital snare. Also, is the hihat triggering well, ?some friends that I have told me they can't make it work as good as the drum module. But anyway I prefer to practice without computer, and without latency, + after spending some time with it I now have a sound that I'm happy with so it's a no brainer for me. I'm not found of the pearl mimic, to me it sounds very "sample" so not much realistic when you play with nuances.

@Adrien-Drums my son (12 years old) is new to the TD-27 module and would love to get that rim sound that you play at 8:28. Would you mind sharing the name of that sound? Also when you turn off H&R does it do it for just the drum you are on or does it effect all the pads?

THANK YOU Adrien for this excellent Intro to the TD27. I was so disappointed about the modules' sound, but now I understand it cames RAW when new, and needs just to "photoshop" it in detail. I have one question. Somehow I lost my XSTICK sound for my snare. I've tried "everything". I think it is actually something with the sensitivity of the RIM as I can make it (stick-)sound but doing uncomfortable manoeuvres with my left stick. Any idea? Merci en avance ; )

Exactly ! Hum, that's weird. a couple if things to check out, make sur H&R is engaged and that you have a sound assigned to the rim. and check out the sensitivity and rim gain

Oui c'est un parti pris... en fait 85% de mes vues sont faites hors de France, donc je fais pour le plus grand nombre ;) Je sais que c'est frustrant mais j'ai fait l'effort de mettre des sous-titres (ce qui prend beaucoup de temps :p ) Je réfléchi pour l'avenir à créer une chaine 100% Français cela dit !

I just want a drum module that has a 100 different drum sets that all sound like the best acoustic drum sets in the world right out of the box with no adjustment necessary. and then you just spend your time pulling your favorite sounds and designing your own custom kits. Roland has been making electronic drums for way to long to have such crappy sounds right out of the box. especially when other companies are making great realistic drum sounds.

Well, I can understand the need to get a better out of the box sound, but man, here are things to consider : Roland has the best triggering on the market, the best pads, the best drumming experience, the best feeling. yes you have to tweak the sounds, but you know, if you buy an acoustic drum, you have to spend time tuning it to get a good sound out of it, even 6000$ drum kit doesn't good out of the box. Again I understand the frustration, but you can get huge sounds when you put the time or buy presets.

The high hats seem to be a concern on those kits. Dod that one have a bottom cymbal? Need to have that there.

Hi Adrien, what is the complete settings that you apply in your hi-hat, would be great to see the whole thing. I struggle a lot with open/close when playing 16th notes, often doesn't recognise well the open/close

Hey Bill. Any other pads different from my configuration will not benefit from my settings. What you will have to do is to copy the settings I did for the 14 and past it on your second 14. And then for example change the size to 16. And you will be set. For the added cymbal it depends. I have added an additional hh China & splash. So if your added cymbal is for one of those you will be set. If not you can do the same thing as for the toms. Cheers

Salut, je me permet de te poser une question en français... J’ai le module TD-27 depuis un peu plus d’un mois, j’ai réglé le son ROOM ON, avec des réglages magnifique dans mon casque! Le problème lorsque j’enregistre le son directement sur carte SD, le son est vraiment fade, plus aucune résonance! Est ce que tu aurais une idée?? Se serait super sympa, car j’aimerai vraiment m’enregistrer avec la même qualité et le même son que j’ai dans mon casque!

@@Adrien-Drums Ok si je comprends, j'aurais un enregistrement bien meilleur si je passe sur mon ordi avec le câble USB plutôt que de tout enregistrer directement sur la carte SD? C'est peut-être ça qui me fait un son un peu fade...

The machin Gunning is mostly due to the sensitivity, in the middle of the video I gave some advice on that did you tried that ?

Je sais que ce n'est pas vraiment le sujet de la vidéo, mais tu penses qu'il est possible d'avoir des beaux sons avec le module TD-17 ? Ou bien la différence avec le module TD-27 est vraiment énorme ? Parceque je pensais prendre un VAD306, mais si la qualité sonore est pas au RDV, la TD-27 a l'air bien plus rentable

La TD 17 est superbe, mais oui le module TD 27 est vraiment un cran au dessus, si tu as les moyens et que ça correspond à tes besoins, fonce !

Hi Adrien. I am your subscriber and I am following this video very often to create my drum set up. I have questions for you: 1) when I have created my own instrument, for example a snare drum, can I copy the same instrument, the same tuning, the same compressors, the same reverbs and paste it into another drum kit? 2) I want to enlarge my drum set. From the power strip of my Roland TD27 there are aux outputs (3) can I connect 3 roland PD8 pads to assign any sound from the control unit and hear it in stereo? 3) From the multicable that comes out of the control unit, I have some out of order jacks called RDB. What are they for ? I tried to connect one to a tom and assign it a sound but nothing plays. It is mute. how can I do? I do not find these answers on the internet I will be grateful if you will help me. Hi

Thanks for the feedback buddy! 1) Yes you can copy the instrument with its settings, but not the reverb because the reverb is not linked to a particular instrument but to the whole kit. 2) YES 3) I know, I asked myself the same question, RDB is RiDe Bell, so I guess it means that if you don't use the USB ride, you can use a regular 3 zones ride instead. But no, unfortunately we can not use this to add more pads. Or if we can I don't know how to do it! But I have tried and it doesn't work, plus you can see in the separated channels (on the volume menu for example) that we have just 3 more auxiliaries not more.

@@Adrien-Drums Thanks Adrien for your help: 1) could you tell me quickly what are the steps to copy an instrument? 2) from the aux outputs so I can assign any sound to a PD8 but can I also use its edge or can I assign just one sound to a trigger? 3) it would be curious to ask roland what those cables are for 4) I who have a VAD503 can use: - tom2 output -crash 2 - 3 aux quite right? then it would be nice to have a few more videos for tips on the potential of the td27. Cover drum, or trigger parameter settings, more in-depth (you already have) for the best hi hat setting ever, or tips for live performances with this instrument you are great have a nice Sunday

Yes the presets on my website are the same :) Hm that's a good question... I don't remember how I recorded that but my best guess would be trough the master out as I didn't needed to have a multi track performance

Bonjour Adrien. Je viens de recevoir la snare PD140DS que j'utilise avec le module TD-27. J'ai des déclenchements du son Rim en frappant au centre de la peau sans toucher le Rim. J'ai réussi à améliorer les choses en changeant le paramètre Head/Rim Adjust dans les paramètres de la snare. Je me demande si la snare n'est quand même pas défectueuse. Pourrais-tu me dire à combien est réglé ton paramètre Head/Rim Adjust sur le PD140DS et si tu as aussi beaucoup de déclenchement de Rim en tapant au centre? Merci!

@@ericgiordana6697 Hm non ce n'est pas normal, de mon côté je n'ai pas touché à ce paramètre et je n'ai jamais eu ce problème. tu as essayé de contacter l'assistance Roland ?

Why does the snare sound distorted when hit hard? I own this module, and the snare sounds are one of the biggest disappointments for me personally with this module. There are no good snare samples to use for modern heavy music (maybe the module is targeted to jazz players, idk, but you can't play rock/metal with this. Importing own samples and layering is a crappy bandaid "fix"). It's impossible to remove this "buzz" of snare that they added with this module (td-17 did not have this issue). All snares sound thin and weak. (Great in-depth video btw, it was my "manual" to get familiar with the module, thanks for making it!)

I bought your preset how do I modify the snare it doesn't sound like this video

Hey buddy. Are you the same person that sent me an email ? Don't worry I will help you with that by email. For now I can tell you 2 things : 1st, what you hear in my video is my preset, I did noting on the mix. 2nd, you have to know that your headphones or your speakers can have a massive impact on your sound (for example to much bass, or not enough bass, or arsh highs etc....). My headphone is a audiotechnica, what do you have ?

For that budget you can nearly go for a TD 17, that would be way better. You can still look for second hands.

@@Adrien-Drums yes it would be very handy to have both unfortunately I had no choice but to sell my acoustic.. I’m a lot more better with my hands than say technology so it’s going to take some time to adjust .. But I’m really glad I got the TD27KV and nothing less , otherwise I’d feel much worse haha Thanks for the video

I own the TD-27 and I was immediately disappointed by the poor sound quality of the majority of the stock drumkits. Of the 60+ available after the latest update, there was exactly 1 kit that at I thought sounded acceptable: studio A. I have bought and installed the presets from drum-tec and I still was not convinced. Everything sounds flat and electronic, and i don't even consider myself as an audiophile. This is terrible if you know that at this point I have spent over 3000€ for this setup. Roland has definitely disappointed me. I definitely did not want to spend another 2000€ or more for a td-50 module so I opted to buy Superior Drummer 3 and a USB-C cable and connected it my old decommissioned macbook. And I have to admit that the difference is day and night! There is no perceivable delay and most of the kits are superb and professionally produced. The biggest downside I think, is that you need to have a laptop open while you play but that is something you surely can get used to. I'm using it for half a year now and I most certainly don't want to go back.

Have you purchased Adrien's presets that he mentions in this video? Based on the videos I have listened to his kit sounds the best in comparison to the other available custom/downloadable kits for the TD-27.

@@1rcproductions no i haven’t. Only found this videos months after I watched Adrien’s vid, and at this point i’m not really tempted. Could be that these presets are solid, i don’t have an opinion about that… and my current solution is good so i don’t want to spend any money for a while ;-)

@@theCountOfTotal Yeah, I see your point. I am looking for a kit I can use in smaller venues and like the looks of the vad506. Was about to give up on the td27 until I heard Adrien's presets. The td50 sounds better to me but the vad706 is beyond my budget. Also the digital hihat seems to be very nice on the vad706. Arrrrrrggggghhh!

@@1rcproductions i feel your pain. I would go for the vad506, try adriens preset and hope for the best. If that doesn’t work, you can always buy the td-50 module later. Costly but probably worth it. The hihat of the vad506 is descent so you can keep it for a while and upgrade at a later stage.

Mec si ton obj est d’aller bosser chez roland, tu viens de marquer 1000points là ^^ Tu as enregistré comment tes prises ? Pas du tout une question piège, mais juste curieux de savoir quoi.. Record direct en provenance du module, zéro mix en post prod ? J’ai acheté la VAD503 en comptant revendre le td-27dp (module/cc/ride)... ouais je sais, c’est bizarre mais en fait je voulais juste pimper mon vieux kit td-20. Avec ta vidéo, je me tate très serieusement à déballer le matos (toujours pas vendu) et dégager le module td-20... que j’ai depuis 15ans !! Je te laisse imaginer le nombre d’heures passées sur la custo des sons 😱 En fait j’ai peur de 2 trucs : le nombre incalculable d’heures que je vais devoir passer sur le setup du module td27 et que roland annonce dans « pas longtemps » un new flagship, grand frere du td-50. Je suis un peu perdu quoi 😒 En tout cas, merci pour ces tips et bravo pour tes covers de qualité !

Tu as raison de demander c'est une question hyper importante j'aurais du le dire dans la vidéo, le son sort directement du module en multi-pistes via USB et je n'ai appliqué absolument aucuns effet (juste un limiter pour que les niveaux de sortie soient OK). Franchement à ta place je ne le ferais pas. Rien que pour la snare! Depuis que je l'ai honnêtement je ne pourrais pas revenir en arrière ! Pour moi c'est une des plus belles innovations de chez Roland. Au pire si tu préfères ne pas la déballer avant d'être sûr essaye la en magasin! Et je comprend pour l'histoire de passer du temps, au pire si tu galères, mon preset est dispo sur mon site, comme ça tu pourras partir de ça, et regarder ce que j'ai fait ! Autrement te pose pas trop de question, si tu aimes le son qui est sur ma vidéo, tu kifferas ton module :)

@@Adrien-Drums En fait, si tu as bien capté le projet, je ne me poserai pas 1 seule seconde la question si j’avais la possibilité de transférer mes kits perso de mon td-20 sur le 27. Si tu veux je serai déjà en train de taper sur le nouveau snare et ride quoi ... c’est ultra frustrant mec, ils sont sous mes yeux, emballés 😬 C’est pointu mais, à tout hasard, même si je pense connaître la réponse, j’ai pas la possibilité de faire un transfert de mes kits hein ? On sait jamais si tu as des infos sur le sujet🤷🏼‍♂️ mais bon, je rêve pas trop quoi, je me dis qu’il y a eu tellement de step entre les 2 modules, c’est plus le même game..

I just heard about the TD27 module has problems with the hi hat choking and doing odd things that it shouldn't do. and they say its a known issue with the module. I don't get how a huge company like Roland is fixing this problem fast. do you know anything about this ?

Yup, I just had an issue with mine, it has been taken care of pretty quickly of course. Roland are very responsive with this kind of issues.

je cherche aussi à me faire des sons dans le genre trivium, bullet for my valentine, metallica, machine head... et tres honnêtement c'est la croix et la banière. Les steven Slate sont tres bien pour ça et c'est ce que j’essaie de faire mais pour l'instant je suis mitigé, si je trouvais déjà fait se serai le top avec ce module.
